"Well it's certainly a huge file," Valerie said, glancing at the file size. "I can't imagine what all is in it." Actually, she could, and she was trying not to think too hard about it until she had to.
Clint grinned. "A lot," he said, oh so helpfully. "All the things Coulson thinks you need to know going into this."
"In other words, it's either too much or not enough," Valerie said. "I'm going to bank on 'not enough.' I doubt there's ever enough information in the world to deal with you all."
Clint's grin widened at that. "Oh, there's enough information," he pointed out calmly. "But the experience is what you'll have to get first-hand."
Valerie side-eyed him a bit.
"Alright," she said, "out with it. You're being entirely too helpful. What are you planning?" |
"Planning?" Clint asked, his eyes wide with faux-innocence. "I'm not planning anything. I'm just looking forward to the entertainment."
"That's a lie," Valerie promptly replied. "You can't pull one over on me, I worked with Eggsy. Come on, fess up. What are you planning?"
"Told you, I'm not planning anything. I don't need to." Clint grinned. "Watching you with the team is going to be fun, and requires no planning on my part."
Valerie rolled her eyes.
"Then at least let me read this in peace," she said. "If you behave, I might be convinced to restock your mini marshmallows here at the office." |
Clint snorted at that, because that was weak but he wasn't going to call her out on it this time. Instead, he stood.
"Well, I can see how it is. Go on, then, read your dull files in peace." |
"I mean it, behave and I'll even get my hands on those pumpkin spice flavored mini marshmallows," Valerie said as she turned back to her computer screen.
Clint snickered but left, leaving her to her reading and finding someone else to go bother for a while.
Valerie settled in to read.
A few hours later, she temporarily closed the document and rubbed her eyes. "What did I sign up for?" she muttered as she went to get some fresh coffee. |
Her phone pinged with a text from Callie.
VAL MERLIN SET ME UP TO ASSIST ARTHUR GALAHAD AND LANCELOT I'M SO SCREWED |
Valerie glanced at her phone, and did a double-take. She couldn't help the snickers that escaped even as she tapped out a response.
No sympathy from me, I've dealt with them all before. After a moment, she added, You'll like Roxy if you haven't already met her. And you like Eggsy. You'll be fine. |
I do like Roxy, she's fun and witty. And Eggsy and I get on very well. Mostly I'm worried about Arthur. Also, wtf Merlin. Why.
Callie was pouting mostly just because she could at this point, and she knew it. Also because she'd gotten a look at their charts, and damn. Daaaaaamn. |
Valerie couldn't help but snicker.
You'll get used to him. Just remember he takes his tea the way you like your men, she teased. Hot and strong. |
Shush you, this is not a time to be comparing the two, Callie texted back, although the analogy did make her grin.
Valerie couldn't help but snicker more.
This is the perfect time, she responded. I'm trying to reboot my brain after 15 gigs of Avengers file, teasing you is perfect. For real though, he likes his tea strong, and has a bit of a taste for spice when it's cold out. |
So my chai is not entirely off the table, good to know, Callie responded. Yeah I've been through all that info on the Avengers. Fun reading, isn't it?
Merlin secretly likes greens, and will always take Scotch over any other alcohol, Valerie added. And this file is ridiculous. All the trivia I didn't know I desperately wanted.
I'll have to learn which Scotch is good, then, Callie agreed. Right? Tony half the time isn't drinking alcohol, he just likes people to think he is. His smoothies are actually not edible, tried that. Don't accept one. Steve is the biggest mother bear on the face of the earth, he is capable of fussing so damn bad.
Excellent things to know. Valerie thought for a moment about anything else Callie should know. Eggsy has a soft spot for chocolate filled croissants. There's a bakery he picks them up from all the time.
Oh he's already pledged fealty to me if I keep baking, Callie texted back, grinning broadly. Steve likes trying new things, but sometimes he just wants something old-fashioned. There are a couple places I can refer you to, including one fantastic bagel place.
I learned how to make small-batch chicken and dumplings, Valerie replied, grinning a bit. Though I do still know how to make it using a whole bird. That could be interesting to try and see if anyone here likes it.
