The way he said that made Mavin freeze, and she looked at him warily. She had already figured out she was still a bear, and she was trying desperately not to panic because she had no idea how to change back yet.
"Well, you can still understand me, that's good," Hank murmured, moving closer to her. "We're still working on figuring out what happened to you exactly."
Mavin opened her mouth, but only a growl came out. She carefully turned in a circle, to try to get a better look at herself. Then she looked at Hank questioningly.
Hank blinked at her and then chuckled. "Yeah, this is going to be hard," he said, shaking his head. "Right, let me see if I can find you a mirror so you can see, at least." He stood and headed off to go find a big enough mirror.
Mavin grumbled at that. What she really needed was Charles, so they could start figuring out how to fix this. And she needed to check on her son. But she waited for Hank to get back, anyways.
Hank brought back the mirror in short order and set it down. "There," he told her. "I've already alerted the Professor that you're awake again, he should be down soon. And in the meantime you can get a look at yourself."
Mavin plopped herself down in front of the mirror, studying herself. Yep, typical brown bear. She just had no idea how she'd managed it.
Hank looked over when the door opened again. "Professor," he greeted, standing.
"Hello Hank. Hello Mavin." Xavier looked at her and smiled a bit. |
Mavin looked over when she heard the door open.
Professor! She turned around carefully so she was facing him. Where's Connor, is he okay? |
"Connor is fine," Charles soothed. "He's with Logan at the moment. Everything is under control." He smiled at her. "How are you feeling?"
Better, Mavin replied. Except, you know, I seem to be a bear, and I'm not sure how I did it.
That made Charles chuckle quietly. "Yes, we're not quite sure either," he agreed. "It seems that your minor mutation has become much more active, suddenly."
Never would have noticed, Professor, Mavin snarked. So now what? I don't know how to change back, and I can't be like this forever.
"That, unfortunately, I don't know how to fix," Charles told her. "I would think you would be able to figure it out eventually, but I'm not sure how long that would take."
Mavin hesitated for a moment.
Don't get angry at me, she finally said. But... I've been meeting with Mystique occasionally. She helped me with my gift until now. Maybe she can help now. |
Charles blinked. "Ah," he murmured. "Well, the idea had occurred to me, but I wouldn't simply introduce her to you. However, since you two are already acquainted, that changes things." He smiled. "I'll contact her."
Don't tell her I told you, Mavin said. She didn't want you to know about it. I wouldn't have said anything if this hadn't happened.
Charles nodded. "Very well," he agreed. "I'll contact her and see if she's willing to come here."
Mavin nodded and settled down there. She wasn't going to leave the room until she managed to change back.
It took Charles a while, but he did manage to get hold of Mystique and explain the situation to her. At which point he didn't even have to ask her to come; she just told him to wait for her and hung up. Which amused him to no end.
It took Raven very little time at all to make it to the mansion. She walked right in the front door, blonde disguise in place, and headed towards Charles's office without a word to anyone.
"Come in," Charles said as she approached the door, before she could knock. "That was faster than I expected."
"I was in the neighborhood," Raven replied, a little stiffly. "You know I wouldn't be here at all if I didn't need to be."
"I know." Charles' smile was a little sad. "Maeve is downstairs, quite comfortable but anxious to change back to check on her son for herself." He wheeled himself around his desk and to the door again.
"I'm sure," Raven said. She hesitated for a moment. "How is the anklebiter, anyway?"
