Lucy snorted quietly. "Nothing any of us could have predicted," she muttered. "Not even our fault, this time."
Mavin made a vague sound at that and rubbed her eyes with the heels of her palms.
"I'll be glad when I can go home," she said. "Get things back to normal." |
"No kidding," Lucy agreed quietly. "Well, hopefully soon." She rubbed Mavin's shoulder comfortingly.
"Hopefully," Mavin said. She couldn't help a bit of a grin. "I keep expecting to get a voicemail from Mom and Dad asking when I'm going to be home again."
Lucy snorted quietly. "Give them a few more days before the novelty wears off," she advised with a grin. "Then you'll get a call."
"Yeah, probably," Mavin said, nodding. "This is the first time I've had to take an away trip, though, so we'll see if it even takes a few more days."
"We'll see," Lucy agreed. "Although I'd just as soon get this all done with as soon as possible." She huffed a bit.
"I hear that," Mavin said, nodding. She leaned a bit against Lucy. "Is it bad here?"
"Not too bad," Lucy said after a moment. "The people here are quite nice. But there's a lot of people here." She briefly made a face.
"And it doesn't matter if the people are nice if there are just too many of them," Mavin said, nodding. "I understand."
"Yeah." Lucy sighed. "At least I'm not a danger to anyone else." She smiled a bit. "Logan would be going bonkers right now."
"No kidding," Mavin said, grinning a bit. "Though you kind of have to admit, it would be sort of neat to see Wolverine and the Black Panther sparring."
"It would," Lucy agreed after a moment. "Very interesting, and I would absolutely call not it on clean-up after that one." She grinned.
"Also not-it," Mavin agreed, grinning. "They don't pay me to corral Logan." She paused. "Though maybe if I brought Connor to watch, Logan could be persuaded to clean up himself. Setting a good example for his honorary nephew and all."
"Maybe," Lucy allowed after a moment. "If someone put it to him that way, chances would increase." She grinned a bit.
"Of course they would," Mavin said, grinning. "Not even Logan would want to disappoint Connor."
"Nope." Lucy smiled. "With any luck we'll be back soon and you can bring Connor by."
"Yeah," Mavin said. "If I'm lucky, everyone else'll wind him down for me." She leaned against her sister and sighed.
"If you're lucky you'll get to see him for more than five minutes." Lucy smiled a bit. "Everyone loves Connor, you know that."
"I know," Mavin said. She smiled fondly. "I'm never worried about anyone at the mansion with him."
"Good." Lucy smiled. "Well, we can probably settle in for a bit, I don't think too much more will be happening today. I'm thinking the Captain will need time to adjust his plans."
"He'd better adjust them soon," Mavin murmured. "The higher-ups have given them a week to prove things."
Lucy shrugged a bit. "He's something of a strategist, I don't doubt he'll have a new plan in place by tomorrow. Until then, dinner will be soonish, and then settling in?"
"Sounds like a plan to me," Mavin said, nodding. She grinned. "Maybe Mom and Dad will call. I'm sure Connor would have pestered them by tonight."
"Probably." Lucy smiled. "We'll have to bring him back something."
