Sesshomaru nodded, relaxing his stance a bit. This was very curious indeed. "Relax for now," he told them. "We will figure out what to do with you until you can return home."

It was only a moment later that Inuyasha came back in.

"Kagome's agreed to put them up at the shrine," he said, his phone already in his pocket again. "I'll take 'em over while you deal with the other clans."

Sesshomaru nodded. "Play nice," he murmured, smirking.

Peggy blinked at that. Was that... teasing? She looked at Winter, slowly making the shift from "oh shit" to "oh my god".

"Me? I should be saying that to you," Inuyasha scoffed. He looked at the girls. "Come on. Got somewhere you can stay for now."

Winter was also shifting from 'oh shit' to 'oh my god'. She hadn't expected the teasing at all, and it was surprisingly delightful.

Peggy nodded and poked Winter into moving after Inuyasha. "Shrine, huh?" she asked their guide. "Is it far from here?"

"It's a ways," Inuyasha replied. "Coupla hours." He glanced at them as they walked. "So why'd you pick us? In the meeting room, I mean." On the surface, the question sounded casual.

Peggy was quiet for a moment. "Well, you weren't making any threatening moves," she said, shrugging and sounding as if it were total coincidence. "Everyone else seemed a bit hostile. Figured we'd move towards the not openly hostile people."

Inyuasha made a vague sound at that. She wasn't lying, not yet, he could tell that much. But he also suspected she wasn't telling the whole truth.

"How long have you known about demons?" he asked. "Seeing as you aren't freaking out on me and all." As if to punctuate the question, his ears flicked twice.

Peggy couldn't help looking at the ears. Damn, they were cuter in person. "A while," she replied vaguely, glancing over at Winter. "Known about them longer than we've actually known one."

"Uh huh," Inuyasha replied. He wasn't entirely convinced, but she still didn't smell like she was lying.

Winter saw Peggy glance at his ears and nudged her. Yup, that didn't surprise her at all.

Peggy snorted quietly at Winter and nudged her back. Hey, so far this was turning out okay, although she didn't doubt that they'd have to tell this group the whole story too... eventually.

Finally, they got to the car and Inuyasha gestured for them to get in.

"Two hours to the shrine," he said. "But you'll be safe there and we'll figure out what to do with you in a few days." He pulled out the key and got into the driver's seat.

Winter blinked and glanced at Peggy. She wasn't expecting him to know how to drive.

Peggy looked a bit startled too. Then she just kind of shrugged, deciding to go with it for now, and buckled in for the trip.

Winter strapped in as well. Inuyasha didn't immediately start driving, though. Instead, he reached into the center console and pulled out what looked like a signet ring. He slipped it on, and Winter blinked as an overlay seemed to settle into place over him. She could see what looked like a projection settle over him, obscuring his ears and darkening his hair until he looked like a normal human. She could still see his normal self underneath the illusion, and looked at Peggy with a 'what the actual fuck' look.

Peggy blinked as well, her eyes widening. Nope, he looked human now, to her. "How did you just do that?" she asked, unable to contain her curiosity as she leaned forward a bit.

"Huh?" Inuyasha glanced at them in the mirror, his eyes now appearing dark instead of gold. "Illusion tied to a ring. A lot of us have 'em now, us ones who can't pass on their own." He raised an eyebrow. "You don't know about illusions? Where are you even from?"

"Far, far away," Peggy murmured, still looking fascinated. "I mean, we know about illusions, but not that they could be used like that. It's genius."

Inuyasha snorted.

"Yeah don't let the foxes hear that, we'd never hear the end of it," he muttered.

Peggy grinned at that. Proof that foxes we're still around.

A thought occurred to her, and she looked at Winter with a grin. "Do you think...?" She trailed off, making a motion to refer back to foxes and hoping Winter got her mental leap.

Winter paused as she made the mental leap as well and grinned a bit.

"I hope so," she replied. She would be really disappointed if Shippo didn't show up somewhere.

Peggy nodded her agreement of that.

Fortunately the rest of the trip was quiet, and she kept her fangirling to herself. She did, however, glance at Inuyasha multiple times as he drove.

Inuyasha kept glancing at them in turn, trying to figure them out. They definitely knew something they weren't saying, and he wanted to know what it was.

Finally, they got to the shrine and he parked the car.

"Alright," he said, "this is it."

Peggy looked at the shrine. Yup, it definitely looked tree. She shaded her eyes to look at it all.

"That is a massive tree. Must have been around for a long time. Hundreds of years."

"Something like that," Inuyasha said as he led them around to the back courtyard.

Winter looked around as they walked, a bit in awe.

"This is amazing," she said.

Peggy grinned, looking around. "This is awesome."

"There you are." Kagome stood in the entrance to the house, looking at the two newcomers curiously. "Hi. I'm Kagome."
