"Of course you do," Winter replied. Because heaven forbid anyone try to tangle with a taiyoukai. She fidgeted a little, feeling the metapysical fabric of space twist between her fingers like silk but making sure not to actually open a portal.
|
Sesshomaru noticed the odd energy and sniffed, curious. It smelled... Different. Still with that hint of purity. He blinked at her. "Are you teleporting?" he asked her, sounding as curious as he ever got.
|
Winter immediately let go of the energy.
"Not right at this moment," she replied cautiously. |
"But you were doing something," Sesshomaru pressed, inhaling again slowly, categorizing the scents around him.
|
"Yeah, kind of," Winter said, still cautious. "I can't help fidgeting sometimes."
|
"Would you teleport now?" Sesshomaru requested quietly. He was curious, now, and he wanted to see it for himself, up close.
|
Winter blinked.
"You mean like a demonstration?" she clarified. "I suppose I could." She glanced around, looking for a suitable destination spot. Once she found one, she deftly reached out and pulled aside the metaphysical curtain and stepped through, appearing on the other end of the courtyard. |
Sesshomaru stood where he was for a few moments, trying to memorize everything. His nose fairly quivered with how much attention he was paying. Then, almost as fast as she had, he crossed the courtyard to stand in front of her again, eyes bright.
"Again," he requested. |
Winter let out a small 'eep' when he was suddenly in front of her. She didn't even think to question the request, she just drew the metaphysical silk around herself and disappeared, reappearing instantly across the courtyard. She stumbled as she overbalanced.
|
Again, Sesshomaru memorized the scents around her teleporting, and followed her. It was intriguing, and something he'd never come across before.
|
This time, Winter saw the pattern emerging and teleported again, this time ending up in the far corner of the courtyard and ready to jump again.
|
Sesshomaru smirked. Good. She was learning. This time, however, he didn't hesitate, merely crossing the courtyard again after her.
|
Winter stepped backwards into her portal just before he made it to her, appearing again at the base of the god-tree. She didn't prepare for another jump, however; several successive jumps in a row had taken their toll and her head was spinning. She braced herself as she tried unsuccessfully to shake off the dizziness.
|
Sesshomaru noted the change in her scent, and this time he walked over to her. "Too much?" he asked quietly, keeping an eye on her to be sure she didn't fall.
|
“I’m fine,” Winter said automatically. She took a couple of slow breaths to keep her stomach down. “It catches up to me quick.”
|
"So I see." Sesshomaru backed off a step. "I wonder if continued practice would increase your durability?"
Peggy meanwhile had backed off, grinning like a loon, and had watched the spectacle from next to Inuyasha and Kagome. |
“It will,” Winter said, closing her eyes for the moment. The dizziness was wearing off, replacing itself with a throbbing headache. “But not today.”
Inuyasha watched in disbelief. “I’ve never seen my brother act this way,” he murmured to Kagome. |
"No," Sesshomaru agreed. "Daily practice, however..." He turned over the idea in his head, considering.
"He was almost playing," Kagome agreed quietly, a little awed. |
“I already do,” Winter replied, opening her eyes and shading them from the light a bit.
“He was playing with her,” Inuyasha said. “I’ve never seen him do that before. He’s always such a hardass.” |
Which just meant that Sesshomaru would have to make things more interesting on a daily basis, if she wasn't having this kind of a reaction every time.
"Most of the time," Kagome corrected. "He's not that bad with Rin." |
Winter went and settled down in the shade of the god-tree, closing her eyes to try to get the headache to ease.
"He doesn't play tag with her, either," Inuyasha pointed out. |
"No, but he let Rin give him flowers before," Kagome pointed out with a grin.
When Peggy had a very suspicious coughing fit, Sesshomaru looked over at the three of them with a raised eyebrow. |
"This is different," Inuyasha said, shaking his head. "It just is. Trust me on this one." He paused when he heard the fake coughing fit, and stopped talking when his brother's attention shifted to them.
|
Sesshomaru huffed but didn't berate them for talking about him. Instead he did a quick visual check to make sure Winter was fine, and casually leapt into the god-tree to find a good spot to relax.
Peggy did snicker at that, grinning. Oh this was golden. |
"Well, this looks like it's gonna be interesting," Inuyasha murmured, watching his brother. He glanced at Peggy. "And what're you laughing about?"
