"Nothing," Peggy murmured quickly. "Just amused, that's all." She was still grinning, though. Oh she was never going to let Winter live that down.
"Uh huh," Inuyasha replied. "That's not convincing." Oh, he'd believe that she was amused, but she still wasn't telling the whole truth.
"I'm never going to let her live this down," Peggy admitted with no small amount of mischievous glee.
"Live what down?" Inuyasha asked, raising an eyebrow. His ears pricked forward a bit in interest.
"She was playing tag. Or keep away, one of the two." Peggy was still grinning. "First time she's done that."
"Interesting," Inuyasha said, turning back to where his brother was watching over the teleporter. Because that's what Sesshomaru was doing, at least in Inuyasha's opinion, and he hadn't seen his brother do anything like that since Rin was a child.
Peggy grinned. Oh she had the best teasing fodder for the next few weeks, at least. Until she did something to make a fool of herself.
Inuyasha watched his brother for another moment before shaking his head.
"Whatever. I'm going to go find the brat and see if he wants to go hunting. I want to run something down, after THAT summit," he said. |
"Have fun," Kagome agreed cheerily. She was used to them by now.
Peggy eyed him for a moment before she went to go check on Winter and make sure she was fine. |
Inuyasha headed inside, following his nose to find Shippo.
Winter was still under the tree, just relaxing a bit. She opened her eyes when she heard footsteps. "Hey," she said to Peggy. |
"Feeling okay?" Peggy asked, squatting down next to her. "Want anything to eat or drink?"
"Just a headache," Winter said. "I might have overdone it a bit. I'll be fine."
"Alright. In a bit I'll probably go help with dinner again." Peggy grinned. "Although I wouldn't recommend you keep playing portal-tag."
"That wasn't my fault," Winter protested. "I didn't start it."
"Uh huh." Peggy grinned. "But you sure played along." But she dropped the teasing for now. "Any requests for dinner?"
"Nothing in particular," Winter replied. "Have fun playing in the kitchen."
"Oh yeah." Peggy grinned and stood, going to head inside.
A few days later, Inuyasha and Sesshomaru left again, and the three girls congregated in Kagome's room, having a bit of a chat and sleepover party effect. "You two do seem awfully comfortable here," Kagome pointed out as she worked on painting Winter's nails. |
Winter tensed slightly.
"It's nice here," she said warily, making sure not to move so as not to smudge her nails. "Peaceful." |
"It is," Kagome agreed. "But something tells me it's more than that. You two seem to have some expectations, and I'm guessing it's not just from watching us." She finished that hand and straightened. "So, what's going on?"
Winter was quiet for a moment, weighing their options.
"Anime is a thing in this world, right?" she finally asked. "Popular ones typically followed by hordes of screaming teenagers?" |
"Yeah," Kagome admitted after a moment. She'd followed a few in her time. "Why?" She eyed the two of them curiously.
"Well," Winter said cautiously, already knowing it was too late to back out, "one of the most popular in our world... is called 'Inuyasha'." She paused there and waited for that to sink in.
Kagome paused and looked at her for a few long moments as the implications of that sank in.
"I suppose that's too much to be a coincidence, huh?" she asked, voice a little weak. |
“It’s not a coincidence,” Winter replied, shaking her head a little. She watched Kagome warily. “If it’s any consolation, the same thing happened in the last world we were in.”
Kagome sat back a bit, just absorbing all of that. "So you were so comfortable because you knew a lot of this," she murmured.
