"Hello," Winter managed to squeak. She could still see Youko under Shuichi every time she looked at him, and it was freaking her out a little.
"Well, please, make yourselves comfortable. I'm afraid I don't have much by way of television, but the building has wireless if you're interested," Kurama said. |
"Great," Peggy agreed. Okay, she was getting the hang of this, she'd be okay. "You don't have to stick around and entertain us if you have other things you need to be doing, we'll be fine."
|
"I certainly wouldn't be a very good host if I did," Kurama pointed out. He paused for a moment. "However, I do need to step away for just a moment, so if you ladies would excuse me..." With that, he stepped into a side room. He needed to check on Hiei and make sure his friend knew what Yusuke had saddled them with.
|
Hiei was still out on the patio, but he was frowning at the door. As soon as he saw Kurama he sat up straighter.
"What is going on?" he asked. "Oh my god what even." Peggy let all that out with one breath, her eyes wide as she turned to look at Winter. |
"It appears that Yusuke now owes me another favor," Kurama replied evenly. "Master Genkai tasked him with keeping an eye on a pair of human girls-- a task that he has since foisted off on me in order to keep his promise to Keiko."
"Oh god, Peg, I can see Youko under Shuichi," Winter breathed. "I don't know how, but I can see him just underneath, it's so freaky." |
"Hn." Hiei rolled his eyes at the detective. And then something inside caught his attention and he paused. "How much do they know?"
"That sounds both freaky and fantastic," Peggy agreed. "But oh my god that's Kurama, this is even better than Yusuke." |
"What do you mean?" Kurama asked. He went still and listened to the sounds from the other room.
"First Genkai, then Yukina, then Yusuke, now Kurama, I know who's next, and I don't think I can handle Hiei right now," Winter whispered. "I am literally about to turn into a babbling idiot, I don't want that to be the first impression I make." |
"Oh god no," Peggy agreed. "Okay, maybe if we just have a couple hours of normalcy we'll adapt? We got pretty good around Genkai and Yukina, full sentences and sass and everything. It'll be fine once we've had some time."
|
"None of this is normal right now," Winter pointed out. "We got left at the apartment of a legendary fox thief by one of the rightful kings of the Makai so that he could go on a date with his girlfriend. Tell me what about any of that is normal?"
|
"...There's no good answer when you put it like that," Peggy muttered. "Look, it's not normal, but it's going to be normal for right now, right? Until we figure out how to get home again."
|
"I tried," Winter admitted. "Yesterday. I tried to get across the temple, and it put me on the floor with a splitting headache. Something about this place is messing with me, I think, it's just all wrong."
|
"It's the energy here," Peggy said. "It messes everything up. Until you get used to it, I don't think we'll be going anywhere." She paused for a moment. "But hey, it could be worse. We've got eye candy."
|
Winter couldn't help a snort.
"I dare you to say that to his face," she said, grinning a bit. "I dare you." |
"Oh hell no, you cannot pay me enough to say that to him," Peggy said, turning red. "Nuh uh, no way. Not happenin'."
Outside, Hiei began to snicker quietly. |
Winter snickered a little.
"Just imagine his face, though," she said. Kurama glanced at Hiei. "One has to wonder how they know these things," he said quietly. |
"Probably catch him off guard," Peggy agreed, giggling. "Not worth it to do but fun to imagine."
Hiei shook his head a little. "Hard to say," he agreed. "Why don't you go find out?" |
"Definitely fun to imagine," Winter agreed. She looked around. "You know, I'm sort of scared to even move in here, there are so many plants. I don't want to take the risk of one trying to bite me or something."
"It may be worth more in the long run to let them believe we know nothing," Kurama mused. "Until we find out exactly what they know." |
"I wouldn't think he'd have the dangerous ones growing in his home?" It came out more of a question than Peggy liked. She shook herself a bit. "Okay, I know some of these, and the ones I know are perfectly normal and safe."
"More entertaining," Hiei agreed. "See what they'll spill to you. You always were good with women." He smirked. |
"It's not like they'd be dangerous to him," Winter pointed out. "He managed to turn a bug-eating plant into a man-eating plant, remember?"
Kurama couldn't help but smirk a bit. "You could be, too, if you enjoyed their company more," he teased. |
"Yeah but you'd still think he wouldn't keep those around the apartment, at least not all the time. Imagine, what if the landlady stopped by and got eaten by a ravenous attack-guard plant?" Peggy paused and then dissolved into giggles.
Hiei snorted and shook his head. That was another matter entirely, one that normally Kurama was smart enough to leave alone. He did shoot his friend a bit of a sideways look for that. |
Winter paused for a moment, as well, and then started giggling as well.
"Oh god just imagine," she gasped. Kurama easily ignored the sideways look. "Best not to leave them on their own for too much longer," he said. "Will you be coming inside later?" |
"I pity any robber that tries here," Peggy gasped, clutching her stomach as she laughed harder.
"Hn," Hiei agreed. "Later." He turned his attention back to the city for the large part, though he couldn't help but admit privately that he was rather curious about these two. He'd be listening in when Kurama went back inside. |
"It takes a thief to keep others out," Winter added, wheezing with more laughter. "Oh it hurts..."
"Alright," Kurama said. He glanced at the other room. "Perhaps I'll give them another moment to compose themselves before I go back in..." |
Peggy finally calmed herself, though she was still grinning. "More things going on the list of things to never ever say to his face," she said.
Hiei snorted quietly but didn't object to that. |
"God no," Winter said. "Nope, that's never going to see the light of day."
Kurama waited until the laughter had sufficiently died down, and then went back into the room. "I apologize for taking so long," he said when he saw the girls. |
