Tea? I heard tea.

Namune 03-29-2020 11:53 AM

I've recently invested in a cold coffee brewer. It's got a fine mesh filter that you fill with about a cup of coffee and let sit in the fridge for a day. It's super good. I also have a whole bag of instant tea to give to a girl at work tomorrow. I tried making it work but it's VERY strong, which I think she'll like because I saw her chewing on an actual chunk of ginger when she was sick.

Ginger's good for various bugs...though I wouldn't be one to stick a whole piece of straight ginger in my mouth ^^;. In soup though...mmm.

I like me some strong tea--my favored form of caffiene ^^~

I really need to get a new coffee pot. My old one broke finally and a friend gave me their old Keurig with a little reusable kcup for using your own coffee, but the water goes through too fast and makes my delicious coffee into weak, unpleasant swill.

Tea is also good, but I'm almost out and the only tea I can get is the not great basic lipton (or even worse, generic) black tea at the small grocery store near me unless I feel like walking 2+ miles (4-5 miles round-trip) to get to a different store. XP

Inzanebraned 04-08-2020 12:27 AM

I wonder if putting a paper filter into the kcup would slow the water down and make the coffee stronger. I've never used a Keurig, so I don't know if this would work or not.

Namune 04-08-2020 03:52 AM

I almost murdered my coffee machine by putting cappuccino mix in it. It didn't even taste good.

TaiyoTsuki 04-08-2020 06:13 AM

@ Zane: I have no idea if that'd work either :/

@ Namune: Oh dear, that's not good at all.

In theory it might work, but it's too much effort for a potentially still bad coffee because it does shoot a lot of water through in a small amount of time, so I would guess it would just overflow the kcup and make a giant mess. I just want my good small coffee maker (or comparable style) again so I can program it to brew first thing in the morning while I'm attempting to drag my butt out of bed.

Sounds like a good plan X'D

Omg! This thread lives! Hi everyone!

Coffee is such a life saver for me right now, I don’t know what I’d do if my coffee maker crapped out. If there’s a Big Lots near you Kaderin, they have some for a decent price, I got mine for $15.

TaiyoTsuki 04-10-2020 06:25 AM

As long as I have working kettle, I'm happy ^^. I drink coffee, but my preferred form of caffiene is still tea~

Namune 04-10-2020 11:13 AM

I woke up in time for work today, but it's not a work day. Now to debate whether I want tea or coffee.

TaiyoTsuki 04-12-2020 07:08 PM

Either way, no decaf? X'D

Well...there is one in town, but I don't have a car, so it's like a 2 hour walk round-trip and also having to carry a potentially bulky box isn't fun.
I almost got one of the fun color ones that are at Hobby Lobby, but I heard that the Hobby Lobby here is closed so that's a no go.
If I feel up to it this afternoon I may hike over to somewhere anyway to hint for a coffee maker. Even though one of my jobs recently closed so I really should be saving money. But I am desperate for good coffee.
Tbh I may do a small batch of cold brew today as well as I loke that alright.

Sorry not sorry but I quietly judge decaf drinkers. [ninja]

TaiyoTsuki 04-15-2020 09:09 AM

Same though...what point is there to tea or coffe if it's not for the caffiene??

Namune 04-15-2020 03:03 PM

I do know people with heart problems who like the drink, but I usually think of coffee. Tea is delicious in nearly all forms, so that's understandable. But also I still don't understand the method of decaffeinating.

Kaderin Triste 04-15-2020 03:19 PM

I'll be honest, I silently judge decaf drinkers as well.
Though I drink coffee for the taste (but not the gross preground crap from the grocery store, actual good small-batch roasted whole bean coffee, freshly ground), not the caffeine as caffeine has almost no effect on me.

Namune 04-16-2020 01:14 AM

I recently bought a coffee grinder for a dollar at a thrift store. I use it for spices.

TaiyoTsuki 04-18-2020 07:27 AM

I remember the little coffee grinder we had when I was a kid--I liked grinding up the beans with it when I was little X'D

Namune 04-18-2020 03:29 PM

There's a video on youtube of a hand crank grinder restoration. It just made me really want that style grinder, and I would definitely pay more than a dollar for it.

Kat Dakuu 04-19-2020 12:24 AM

I'm so glad to own a coffee grinder now. I can grind my coffees at work but since we have machines that use different grounds, it's good to do just a handful for what we need at the time. It's automatic and has it's own little storage thing that can hold what we grind.

TaiyoTsuki 04-19-2020 07:39 AM

Plus also, you probably end up with the last bits of whatever coffee was last ground in there too.

Kat Dakuu 04-19-2020 02:51 PM

You probably always have that problem with a grinder but it's not necessarily a bad thing.

Namune 04-19-2020 06:10 PM

Uncleaned grinders is just experimenting with flavors!!

lol, I just about gave myself diabetes yesterday. I mixed my cold brew with creamer, and then a bit over a cup of honey by mistake. I took my kettle and attempted to melt a half-full jar of crystallized honey, which I succeeded. It was a bit cloudy with chunks floating around, so I quickly grabbed the strainer and strained the honey water... right into my cold brew. I tried to salvage it by boiling more water and making one watery serving of hot cocoa and adding one serving of the cold brew. I drank half the tankard like that and pitched the rest this morning because I forgot to refrigerate it last night.
