"Which one? There are dozens of islands on this world."
"Motonui. That's right, yeah?" Rose looked back at Summer. |
"Sounds about right," Summer agreed, nodding.
"Ah, that one." The Doctor made a bit of a face. "Well, I might be able to get you sort of close. That one's protected." |
Rose paused at that. "If it's protected, then why do we have to go seal it off?" she asked Summer. "And the heartless were getting through there too."
"Imagine what it would be like if it weren't," the Doctor pointed out as he turned back to the control panels. "Completely overrun, I would think."
"Well, guess it's a good thing we got rid of the heartless, then," Rose said brightly, though she did move back over to watch him work the controls.
"For now," the Doctor said, nodding. "Won't last long, though. They'll come back, until you seal the heart of this place." He glanced at them. "Have you found it yet? The heart."
"Yes and no." Rose grimaced. "I mean, there's one person who feels like the heart, but not the whole heart? I don't know, I'm still kind of confused about that."
"Yes, well, I suppose that does make some sense," the Doctor mused as he flipped some switches and turned a crank. "From what I was able to gather, the old heart passed on a tad early, and the new one wasn't ready yet."
"That... sort of makes sense?" Rose blinked. "I think? So there are two hearts currently, is what I'm hearing."
"Sort of," the Doctor said. The room lurched a bit as the Tardis jumped across space. "It's a bit more complicated than that, I think."
"Probably," Rose agreed on a sigh. "It's never easy." She looked at him. "So, how close are we to the island?"
"Fairly close," the Doctor said as she Tardis shuddered to a stop. "On a sandbar about a kilometer out. It's as close as I can get with the Tardis."
"Alright." Rose took a deep breath. "Well, guess we're heading in. You coming with us?" She raised her eyebrows at the Doctor.
"I've already interfered enough, I suspect," the Doctor said. He grinned at them. "Have fun!"
"Thanks." Rose grinned at him and opened the door, peering outside.
Summer took one more look around the inside of the Tardis, and then followed her sister.
"Can you see the island?" she asked. |
"Yes," Rose said. "It's not close, but we can make it okay. It's not as far as you think." She glanced back at the Tardis before she sighed. "Guess we better get going, huh?"
"May as well," Summer said, nodding. She adjusted her bathing suit a bit. "At least we're still dressed for swimming." She grinned. "And if we're lucky, maybe we'll see the giant manta again, that was cool."
"It was cool," Rose agreed, stepping out of the Tardis onto the sand bar. "Hopefully this'll be quick, I feel like I'm burning out here."
"I'm sure they've got something for that," Summer said as she tested the water temperature with one foot. "They've got to, they live on a tropical island."
"No kidding." Rose huffed out a breath. "Well, shall we get going? I want to get this over with so we can make sure we did it right."
"Yeah, let's go," Summer said, stepping off the sandbar. "At least the water's warm, it should be a nice swim." She started to head towards the island.
Rose swam to the island and then got out, sopping wet again. She grimaced. "I'm never going to dry out," she complained half-heartedly as she wrung out her hair.
"Yeah, you will," Summer said, wringing out her hair as well. "Come on, let's seal the world, then we can go back to Radiant Garden and dry off properly." She paused as she saw the giant manta go by. "Hey... is it just me, or does that feel a bit... odd? Like good-odd, but still odd."
"Yeah, definitely odd," Rose agreed, her gaze fixed on the manta. "I can't quite decide how or why it's good-odd, but it is, and I want to figure out why."
