"Yes, I do," Rose murmured, watching and waiting. "I'm sure they'll pop up sooner rather than later."
|
"Probably," Summer murmured. "Come on, let's move somewhere where there aren't as many people. No sense in giving the heartless a target-rich environment."
|
Rose nodded and took a quick look around before she started walking towards the nearest park. Hopefully it would be decently large and wouldn't be full of people.
|
Summer walked with her, still glancing around as they went.
"They're close," she murmured. "Close enough I feel like we should be able to see them." |
"Right," Rose murmured. "But this is a big city, lots of people, lots of places to hide." She frowned a bit. "At least we're getting a bit of luck that they're not causing a big ruckus yet."
|
"Yet," Summer said. She glanced around as they reached a rather secluded area of the park. She was definitely uneasy now, and she kept one hand ready to summon her keyblade.
|
Rose frowned as she looked around, just waiting for heartless to pop out.
A few did, but not as many as Rose expected. She grinned as she summoned her keyblade. |
Summer smirked when she saw the heartless. Finally, they showed themselves. She held out her hand and summoned her keyblade. There was a brief flash of light, and something shiny and round settled on her arm. She blinked.
"What the actual fuck?" she said, looking at the shield on her arm. "What is this? Since when do keyblades do this?" |
"I don't know!" Rose hissed, looking at the actual honest to goodness rifle in her hands instead of her normal keyblade. "This is not normal!"
A heartless jumped at her, and she swung the rifle at it. Fortunately, it still worked that way, at least. |
Summer yelped when a heartless came at her, and she swung her new shield around to bash the thing on the head.
"Do I look like Captain America?" she demanded rhetorically. "No!" She turned to brain another heartless with the shield. "So what gives?" |
"I haven't got a clue," Rose huffed. "But at least yours is a better shape for bashing." She grimaced as she swung the rifle again. This was definitely not ideal.
|
"If I find out Mickey knew this would happen at some point I'm going to string him up by his ears," Summer said as she smacked around a couple more heartless.
|
Rose snorted at that and finished off the last heartless around. "Is that all?" she asked, looking around with a little frown. She still felt that tingle that meant heartless were around.
And then she heard the screaming. |
Summer jumped when she heard the screaming.
"Ah shit," she said, already turning and heading towards the sound. "This is not going to be fun, I don't want to have to fight a big heartless with a metal frisbee..." |
Rose grumbled but started towards the source of the screaming. When she finally saw the heartless, she paused for a moment. It was something that looked remarkably like a Chitauri, only made of darkness and smoke. And bigger. She swore and looked down at her keyblade.
"Well, guess now's a good time to try this out." She lifted it slowly, taking a few moments to figure out how to actually aim with this thing. |
Summer looked from the monster heartless to her shield keyblade and back.
"Great, you get a rifle and I get a giant dinner plate," she said. Making a face, she raised the shield and jumped at the heartless. |
Rose snickered but got a couple shots off, working on distracting the heartless to give Summer time to get in close to it and attack.
|
"I don't know how he does this," Summer said as she got close enough to take a swipe at the heartless. "And I don't want to know. I want my giant key back, damn it." She brought the shield down on the heartless's head.
|
"This is hard," Rose panted, taking aim again. "A lot harder than I thought."
She did squeak in surprise as something bright red and gold and shiny zoomed overhead, firing at the heartless. |
Summer yelped and ducked, pulling her shield over her head.
"Oh god it's Iron Man," she said. She turned and brought the shield down on the heartless as it squealed and tried to get out of repulsor range. |
"What's the matter, Cap?" Tony asked through the suit with a grin, having clearly not actually looked at the owner of the shield. "Feeling your age today?" He shot the heartless a few more times, and it finally vanished into smoke.
|
Summer blinked and lowered the shield.
"Wait, you mean me?" she asked. She looked at the faceplate, half expecting it to open. "Oh wow, you were talking to me." She looked at Rose. "This is not something I think I will ever get used to." |
Tony stopped dead at that. "Who the hell are you?" he asked, frowning.
"A couple of helpful bystanders," Rose drawled, shouldering the rifle and making her way over to them. |
"Long story short we were tracking down those little shadow monsters," Summer said, setting the shield down on its edge and holding on to the top of it. "The heartless. This--" she gestured to the shield, "--was unexpected, I'm not used to using one of these. I'm Summer, she's Rose."
|
"How is that a surprise?" Tony asked, frowning. "What were you using before?"
Rose sighed. "It's a long story." |
