Steve blinked. "Tony's the heart of the world?" he asked, honestly rather surprised.
"Yup." Rose grinned. "Hey, Stark, need you for a minute. We're just about ready to seal up this world." Oh this was going to be fun. She shifted her rifle to a better grip, waiting until he'd turned towards her to aim it at his chest. |
Before Tony could properly react, the Arc lit up brighter than it should have, and a beam of light came out of it to meet the tip of the rifle. There was a low, almost inaudible 'click', and everything seemed to settle into place better than it had before.
"What the actual and entire fuck was that?" Tony demanded. "Rose just locked the world," Summer said as she caught up to them. "We're able to lock the world once we find the heart, and make it so that heartless can't get in anymore." |
"Although I think we have to make sure most of the heartless are gone before we can lock the world," Rose murmured, setting her rifle back on her shoulder. "Even so. Done now."
Steve looked at them both. "So, off to the next now?" he asked. |
"I think we should check in with Fury, just to make sure there are no lingering heartless past where we can sense them," Summer said. She was quiet for a moment. "And then, yes, it'll be time for us to go."
Steve nodded, considering something. But he didn't say anything just yet. "Want me to call Fury for you?" he asked.
"Give me a few to check with Rose and Coulson," Summer said. "Coulson will probably call him for us."
Steve nodded and motioned for her to go ahead, although he did stick close behind her.
Coulson was already in the living room, on the phone.
"...Yes, sir, it's all set. Yes, the world is sealed. ... It was exactly who you thought, sir." He glanced over as Summer and Steve came in. "...Of course. I'll take care of it." Once he hung up, he adjusted his suit sleeve and looked over at Summer. "There is no need to check in with the Director," he said. "I just updated him on the situation, so everything should be all set for you and Rose to go back." |
Rose came in for the last bit of that. "Oh excellent," she said. "We're all set, sounds like." She grinned.
Which meant Steve had to act pretty fast. He moseyed over to Bucky, pulling him a bit aside. "So I had an idea," he murmured. |
"That's always the first sign of trouble, with you," Bucky replied. "What idea?"
"Well, you mentioned wanting to travel," Steve said with a little grin. "We could travel with them." He nodded to the girls.
"You want to follow them?" Bucky asked. "Seriously?" He paused, thinking about that. "Could be interesting, seeing other worlds."
"It could. And I think things will be quieter here for a while, now," Steve pointed out. "It'll be a chance to get away for a bit."
"Of all the crazy, reckless ideas you've had, this one takes the cake," Bucky said, giving Steve a Look. He was quiet for a moment. "But it's not a bad one."
Steve grinned. "That's not a no," he pointed out. "C'mon, Buck, I know you've thought of it before now."
"So what if I have?" Bucky replied. "God only knows if I'm safe enough to go traipsing through other worlds, Stevie. Imagine how bad I could mess them up." Not to mention Rose. He could only imagine how much he might hurt her.
"Could also help, to get away from things for a while," Steve pointed out. "And I'd go with you. Not like you'd be going alone."
"Have you even asked the girls yet?" Bucky asked. "Not that you'd care, but there's gotta be rules about this sorta thing."
"There probably are, and I haven't asked." Steve shrugged. "Figured I'd check with you first, see if you even wanted to go."
Bucky thought about it for a moment, weighing his options. Finally, his desire to stay near Rose outweighed his apprehension about leaving and he nodded.
“I’ll go grab what I need for my rifle.” |
Steve grinned. "I'll go talk to the girls," he agreed. "See you in a few."
He headed back over to the girls, already figuring out his plan of attack here. |
Summer was over with Rose, debating what to do.
“Should we hang around another day or two, just in case?” she asked. “Or head back to Radiant Garden now?” |
"I don't know," Rose murmured. "Last time we headed straight back. Everything should be set now here, so I suppose we can leave whenever now."
“Maybe we can come back and check on the place soon,” Summer said hopefully. “Just to make sure.” She paused. “Oh god Rose I think I like Steve.”
Rose blinked. "Like how?" She asked cautiously. Because this could be a problem.
