"Not until I'm confident you can handle them," Leon replied, propping his gunblade on his shoulder. "You're keybearers, you'll know what to do when you see heartless. I'm just making sure you know how to do it right."
Rose snickered a little at that, because okay yeah, that was kind of funny actually.
"Guess I can't just treat them all like baseballs now," she commented to Summer. Mostly to annoy Leon a little. But only a little. |
"Guess not," Summer said, grinning. "Might be funny, though."
Leon just snorted a bit at them both. "Keep working," he said to them. |
Rose cackled but went back to practicing without a fuss. It was all in good fun, after all.
The girls spent a few days training like that with Leon before he declared them proficient enough to handle the weaker heartless.
"There's not a whole lot more you can learn here that you won't be able to pick up on your own," he said. |
"That sounds like permission to go beat up heartless," Rose said. "Is that permission? I really hope that's permission."
"Wait a second," Summer said, holding up a hand to pause Rose's enthusiasm. "What's the catch?"
Leon smirked. "Kairi and Namine were keeping an eye on the map," he said. "And they agree that there's a world out there that could use your help, and soon." |
"Okay," Rose agreed, because so far this didn't sound like a bad thing really. "So there's a specific place we'd be going to."
"Yes," Leon said, nodding. "From what I understand, the world was only just recently connected to the rest. It has never seen a keybearer before."
"So you're not only throwing us at the heartless, you're throwing us at an entirely new situation," Rose said, her eyebrows shooting up. "The new keybearers who have no reputation and no proof besides the actual keyblades."
"If we had anyone else to send, they'd be there," Leon pointed out. "Do you see any other keybearers around? I don't."
"Just commenting," Rose said, holding up her hands for peace. "Not quite a criticism, just a comment. A pointed one, but a comment."
"Then point the comment elsewhere," Leon said. "Kairi and Namine are inside trying to get a handle on the new world, they'll let you know what you need."
"Alright, alright," Rose abated. "It's fine. It'll be fun, right? Tons of fun." She grinned, bouncing on the balls of her feet a little.
"This is going to be kind of awesome," Summer said, grinning. "Come on, let's go look at the map and see where we're going."
Rose grinned and followed Summer out and back to the map room.
"Oh good, Leon told you," Kairi said when she spotted them. |
"He did," Summer said, nodding. "Something about a world on the map?"
"Yes," Namine said, nodding. She gestured to a section of the map that was flickering. "This one. It seems to be holding out for now, but it needs help." |
"Looks like it." Rose took a closer look at it and blinked. "...It looks like it's mostly water."
"From what I understand, it is," Namine said, nodding. "Islands and ocean."
"We did not pack for a water world," Summer said, studying the map. "I almost want to run home and grab my swim suit." |
"You probably should," Rose agreed. "I mean, with our luck, one of us will definitely fall into the ocean, so we should be prepared."
"No kidding," Summer said. "I'll run back and grab both of our things, you stay here and learn what you can about where we're going?"
"Done," Rose agreed with a grin. "I am totally okay with this. Oh, hey, grab my sarong too while you're there."
"Sure," Summer said, nodding. "I was just going to grab the suits, and maybe some shorts and shirts, but if you want your sarong I'll grab it too."
"Yes please, just in case." Rose grinned. "And everything else, too. Use my backpack if you want, I don't mind carrying stuff."
"Will do," Summer said, summoning her keyblade. There was a mirror leaning against the wall a little ways away, so she went over to it and pointed her keyblade at it. The faint keyhole appeared, and she walked into the mirror.
It spit her out in her bedroom, as she expected. She took a few minutes to just change into her bathing suit and warm weather clothes, and stuffed her jeans and sweatshirt into a bag. Then she went to grab Rose's things. On her way back to her room, something in the kitchen caught her eye. There was a paper airplane sitting on the table, with a stamp across it in the shape of the iconic mouse ears. As soon as she picked it up, the seal glowed and dissolved and the airplane unfolded. Summer and Rose, Hope this message gets to ya fine. It's about the best I can do at the moment. There should be a letter folded up in here somewhere, take it with you when you go to the island world. Take it to the chief, and make sure his daughter sees it too. I never got a chance to go there myself to introduce them to the idea of other worlds so you're gonna have to do it for me. I owe ya one! --Mickey Summer read through it again and turned it over. A small folded paper fell onto the table, sealed like the airplane had been, and she just picked it up and put it into her pocket. May as well hold on to it until Rose had a chance to see the note. With that, she headed into her room and used the mirror to get back to Radiant Garden. |
