Rose was waiting for her, having taken a thorough look over the world and decided where they should start out.
"Hey," she said, glancing at Summer. "Get everything?" |
"Yeah," Summer said, handing Rose her bag. She also held out the note. "We got a paper airplane."
"Of course we did." Rose took the note and gave it a quick read over. "Huh. Okay. Well then, guess first order of business will be to find the chief when we get there."
"Looks like," Summer said. "I'm ready to go when you are."
Rose nodded and went back to the mirror, pointing her keyblade at it. The surface shimmered, and she grinned. "Off we go, then," she said, and stepped through the portal.
Summer did the same, following Rose through the mirror. She yelped as she was let out on the other side a good six feet above the surface of the water, and she fell into it with a splash.
Rose was spluttering a bit as she came back up, making a face. "Dammit all," she growled. "Should have changed sooner." She tread water easily enough, at least.
"I did, but still, land would have been nice," Summer said as she also tread water. She spun around to get a look at where they were. She could see waves breaking over what had to be a reef, and past that was a tropical island. "Over there, come on."
"Yes but I didn't and now I've got wet jeans, so screw you," Rose said, though she was already swimming towards the island.
"At least the water's warmish," Summer said. She body-surfed over the reef, catching herself on it briefly when she saw something out of the corner of her eye. "Rose, do you see that?" She gestured to the faint blue glow that drifted by them, just outside the reef.
Rose caught herself and looked out at it. "Looks kind of like a manta ray, albeit a huge one," she murmured. "And since this is another world I legit cannot tell if it's normal for them to be glowing like that."
"I don't know either," Summer said, watching the enormous manta glide past and continue on around the island. "Maybe we can ask once we reach land, someone has to know."
"Yeah." Rose shook herself and headed towards land again, swimming a little slower now to watch all the fish she could see darting about in the water.
The water was more shallow inside the reef, and much warmer. It wasn't long before Summer was able to touch the bottom, and she waded the rest of the way to the beach.
"It's beautiful here," she commented. |
"It is." Rose smiled a bit. "I like this. Now we just have to find whoever we're supposed to be talking to." She stepped onto the sand and started wringing out her shirt.
"Right," Summer said, stripping off her own shirt and wringing it out. She already had her swim suit on underneath. "I see a path, that will probably take us somewhere that we can find people."
"Probably," Rose agreed. "And then hopefully I can find a place to change." She grimaced.
Summer looked down the path as far as she could see, and then just started walking, pushing some branches and leaves out of the way as she went.
The path was surprisingly short, and the village at the end of it was surprisingly busy, considering how empty the beach had been. |
People stopped to look at them as they passed, and someone took off running to go fetch someone. Rose had a sneaking suspicion they'd get to see the chief without having to try all that hard.
Moana heard the commotion and went to go check it out, because of course she did. |
"Cool, we stick out so much," Summer murmured to Rose, glancing around. She saw the runner take off towards the larger structure up on the hill. "I'm sure this is going to go so well."
"Oh yeah," Rose murmured. "So much fun."
Moana managed to get to the front of the crowd, looking at the two. "Where did you two come from?" she asked, eyeing them. |
Summer glanced at Rose, and then fished the note from Mickey out of her pocket. It was still perfectly folded and dry, despite the dunk in the ocean.
"That's kind of complicated," she said. "This letter might help? We're supposed to give this to the chief and his daughter." |
Moana took the note, looking at it for a moment in surprise. "Come with me," she told them, heading up to the large building where she knew her father would be this time of day.
Rose exchanged a wary look with Summer but followed without protest. |
Summer followed as well, staying close to Rose.
Tui and Sina were both up in the large building, discussing some village matters with some of the other families. Tui looked up when Moana came in with the two unfamiliar faces. "Moana?" he asked, holding up a hand to pause the man who had been talking to him. |
"These two were walking into the village," Moana said, leading them over and handing the note over to Tui. "They brought this with them."
Rose took a chance to look around while she had it, waiting for him to read before she said anything. |
