Cat nodded, smiling just a bit.
"Sure," she said. "Two days? After dinner?" |
Remus nodded. "I'll be there," he agreed, gathering up his things. "I'll see you then." He nodded to her and left quietly.
Cat watched him go. Then she gathered her own things and went to look for her cousin. She wanted Olivia's opinion on something.
Olivia was settled in her common room, just relaxing and reading a book. And playing with a bird that had found its way in earlier.
Cat had gotten the Hufflepuff Tower password from Olivia a while back, so she strolled right in. A few of the new first-years looked at her in horror (a Slytherin? In Hufflepuff Tower??) but didn't move to stop her.
"Hey, Liv," she said, going over to sit next to her cousin. |
"Hey." Olivia didn't look up from her book right away, but the bird did twitter agitatedly at Cat, and Olivia absently shushed it. "Just a moment. Almost at the end of the chapter."
"No rush," Cat said, settling in. The Hufflepuff dorm was nice; warm, inviting, cozy. She loved the Slytherin dorm, under the lake, but the Hufflepuff space was nice as well. She held out a hand cautiously for the little bird.
The bird cheeped imperiously but hopped over to see if she had any food.
"There are some seeds in the bag," Olivia told her without looking up. |
"Great," Cat said, reaching down slowly so as not to startle the bird. Her hand came back up with some seeds, which she held out.
The bird eyed her for a few moments before deeming her offering acceptable and hopping over to eat some seeds.
Olivia finished her chapter and set her book down, smiling a bit. "So, what brings you here tonight?" she asked quietly. |
"What, I can't visit my dearest cousin and unnerve some first years?" Cat replied, grinning a bit. She was careful not to disturb the bird.
Olivia snorted. "No," she said dryly. "If you wanted to do that you'd be more showy and less feed the birds."
Cat snickered.
"Okay, fair," she replied, grinning a bit. "But I did want to see you. I need an opinion from someone not in my own house." |
"Oh?" Olivia blinked at that, looking up from a doodle. "Opinion on what?"
Cat hesitated just slightly.
"I met up with Lupin earlier," she said. "To get a head start on our project. He's... not quite what I expected. And he piques my curiosity." |
"How so?" Olivia frowned a bit. It wasn't often that Cat was all that curious about people.
"There's something about him that I can't quite put my finger on," Cat replied. "Something unusual." She paused. "And... he's not terribly bad looking? In a scruffy sort of way?"
Olivia snorted at that. "No, he's not," she agreed with a grin. "If you're into a bit of scruff and floof. But I know what you mean." She settled down a bit. "There is something rather off about him, I've noticed it in classes."
"Yeah," Cat agreed. "And I want to know what it is. I really want to know."
"I dunno." Olivia shrugged a bit. "He's pretty tight-lipped about himself, and the only real friends he has are those other three."
"Which seems odd now," Cat pointed out. "He's rather pleasant to interact with, you'd think he would have more friends."
"Unless he doesn't want more friends," Olivia pointed out. "Could be people have tried and he's just not interested."
"Maybe," Cat said, although she wasn't convinced. Something about that just didn't seem right. She was sure there was something else, something she didn't know about, and she wanted to know what. "I'm tempted to follow him a bit and see what's going on."
Olivia snorted. "Just don't get caught or killed," she said with a negligent little wave of her hand. By now, she was used to Cat's ways.
Cat grinned.
"You know me," she said. "Just be glad I don't leave dead things by the foot of your bed." She smirked, knowing the first years were listening and also knowing that they had no idea she was an animagus. |
