Hey, hey, all.

What's new? :)

llonka 07-30-2018 06:06 PM

Afternoon, my favorite people! [heart]

Ava The Vampire 07-30-2018 06:27 PM

I just got home from the gym! :D

I want to go to sleep now. xD

llonka 07-30-2018 06:29 PM

Ooooh, fun! I'd love to join a gym, but i'm just too lazy.

Ava The Vampire 07-30-2018 06:49 PM

I'm lazy too. :(
But I took a 6-week challenge.
I paid for 6 weeks and if I lose 25lbs in the 6 weeks I get my money back...

But it's week 4 now and I've not lost very much weight. [cry]

Zephi 07-30-2018 07:05 PM

25 lbs in 6 weeks!? Wth? :o

Eastriel 07-30-2018 07:43 PM

cute avi llonka

I lost 8lbs in 5 days when I got ill xDDDD

Ava The Vampire 07-30-2018 08:02 PM

Yeah, I know right?!
My trainer said that there was an 87% success rate...

I really, really didn't think it was possible to lose 25lbs... Honestly, I think my trainer knows that and uses it to get people in. The thing is, she gave us a "nutrition list" and most of it is protein based...

It's really hard for me because I'm vegetarian and she doesn't have any knowledge of vegetarian foods, so she says, "Well, you chose to be vegetarian..." Like it's a BAD thing??? So the only food I can eat for "protein" is tofu and tempeh. Apparently, beans/legumes/nuts don't count as protein?! WTF.

llonka 07-30-2018 08:22 PM

That sounds like a very drastic weight loss plan and not very sustainable...

Ava The Vampire 07-30-2018 08:25 PM

I tried telling my mom that, but she said, "What have you got to lose?"
UM.... MY MONEY?!

llonka 07-30-2018 08:28 PM

Yikes! Money for sure! You might be able to lose it, but you'll gain it back just as quick. [sweat]

onsenmark 07-30-2018 10:50 PM

That reminds me, I should have a snack...

Inzanebraned 07-31-2018 02:27 AM

I've been kinda AWOL the past few days...
I had my Granddaughter, Hope, for 4 days. She keeps me very busy!
We took her fishing for her first time on Saturday. The BF caught one small fish on her pole while Hope and I walked up a trail to look over the lake.
She was so excited to see a real fish!! ...she wanted to hold it all the way home, but we convinced her to let up out it into a cup of ice.
I cooked the fish when we got home...she ate a few bites and said it was good, but she didn't want any more. I think she found a bone and it turned her off to it. She did eat a couple more bites of it later, though.
Then, Sunday, Sarah scratched her eye with her fingernail and we had to take her to the emergency room. They did the dye thing and we could see a spot about 1/8 inch square over the colored part of the eye and it extends into the pupil.
Poor Sarah! We have to keep her eye covered and put a drop of medicine in the eye every 3 hours. Taking the tape off to apply the medicine seems to hurt as much as the eye hurts!
She will see the eye doctor on Wednesday.
Hope went home today...I always have a sense of sadness and emptiness when she leaves.
I'll probably be more active on Mene to keep me from dwelling on missing her.
I hope everybody is doing well!

Zephi 07-31-2018 12:08 PM

Ava your nutritionist/trainer is nutty. Just look up vegan sources of protein and go withthat. Every vegetable has protein in it. Tbh, the best way to lose weight is to stay away from dairy... I know that can be hard. I'd find a new trainer 😅

Inzane, Oh sounds like you had a fun time with your granddaughter. Does she live very far away?

onsenmark 07-31-2018 02:24 PM

/me needs moar coffee

Zephi 07-31-2018 04:03 PM

*brews up a fresh pot of coffee*

Got some hot Joe comin your way ;)

Inzanebraned 07-31-2018 06:54 PM

Hope lives about 20 minutes away by car...
I raised her for her first 3+ years...then I lived with her family during my recovery from heart surgery...
I'm still battling the separation anxiety.

Eastriel 07-31-2018 06:59 PM

ava; it sounds like you were scammed if I'm honest.
as for vegetarianism and protein, you're looking at eggs and pulses like quinoa and buckwheat also hummus and cottage cheese which is a great low fat cheese option. I like it stirred in to pasta with fresh tomatoes and veggies - if you're diet concious though go for wholemeal pasta ^^

TaiyoTsuki 07-31-2018 08:29 PM

@ Ava: Get a different nutritionist tbh. It sounds like your trainer doesn't know jack shit about, well, nutrition. Or just see if you can get a different trainer who does know about how vegetarianism works. I've taken a grand total of one basic nutrition class, and it sounds like I know more about how vegetarian diets work than this idiot....

And you probably know way more than what I do since you're actually vegetarian X'D. I also don't exactly trust nutritionists sooo....yeah. My advice is basically consult someone who actually has the knowledge, and your own experience. The Internet isn't a bad place for reference either, just beware of the bulls*** ^^;.

monstahh` 08-01-2018 06:26 AM

i saw a "diet consultant" to try and lose weight safetly while also not upsetting my stomach
she gave me 0 answers i didn't already have
and cut my calorie intake in half (at least, in half if I didn't already vomit up a lot of it)
and told my to avoid all fats, and carbs (so basically most of what i eat as i can't eat veggies or fruits unless its juice)

i was sick for two weeks before i gave up
i was retching at the top and exploding at the bottom :/
and she told me not to take any fiber (even though my doctor has me on a fiber supplement, a doctor she's IN THE SAME OFFICE WITH) smh

when my doctor (not the idiot "diet specialist" i saw) asks me how it went I'll tell her, "is it possible to give someone such a low rating they lose their job?"
or something shitty like that
because a calorie cutting diet is completely unsafe for me and cutting out all sugars is bad when i typically run in the hypoglycemic range as it is (we're testing me for diabetes later this week). just irresponsible.
like, i did take her advice and started to drink more water--and that did help, but, that's the only thing that wasn't a complete garbage suggestion.

So I tried logging into my mule that became my main (shion uzuki), but I can't. So I'm on my original account.

I'd been inactive for a long stretch of time. I mostly had my own site (avaricia) but I still popped in to chat or mess with my avi. I'd been super-busy with work and wasn't able to do much outside of my job for a good long while. I quit it and then now that I work from home I'm able to return to fun stuff and hobbies.

It's hard to keep avatar sites relevant these days. But there's still a dedicated userbase who comes here daily and posts. So all hope isn't lost. Actually Mene is a lot more active than my site has been since I've been able to come back to it. But if the admins aren't able to fix problems that directly deal with the site's usability, they are going to go elsewhere. But if it's fixed, they will come back. I've seen it happen with my site. It was dead and I've been able to revive it. If it continues to exist without closing, there's always hope it can keep going. But there's another factor: Time.

The problem is dealing with people who are no longer participate on sites like these and barely have time for social media. Forum sites are becoming less and less relevant, even if they are still active. So you're not going to get the new users to fill in for the ones who leave. You're constantly going to be pulling from all the people who still use these sites and many of them may already have accounts here or just don't like the style of avatars. (which is fine everyone has their own tastes) That's the main problem I'm facing right now, is how to stay relevant in the age of social media, apps and instant gratification. Forums come from an era of the past where you post and come back to it later to check for replies.

Also the younger crowd these days is content to post themselves on social media as they are (with filters of course). Avatar sites come from an era where you could be anyone you really wanted. Don't like being a brown haired plain girl who can't afford cute clothes? You can be the pink haired anime girl of your dreams with all the best donation items and sparkly pixels and show off to everyone. Now you can be a perfect-faced uguu-kawaii with beauty plus or meituu and pastel hair is all the rage~

Until the code is fixed, Mene is just a forum with sorta-customizable avatars. That doesn't mean that it's dead, but it means that activity is going to remain low, slow, from the core users who enjoy the site and community, and with no income from CI's, the hosting will have to be paid out of pocket. Hopefully it's not that much. But with no CI's means less incentive for users to remain active. If their friends are still here, they might post. Or they might go elsewhere.

But anyway, that's my own take on it, having had my own site go down a similar route that nearly killed it. Not with code, but with items. Hopefully the admins are able to come back and fix the problems.

Mene was one of the first sites I joined outside of Gaia. I'd hate to see it go. :/
