@ Nanie - I would definitely recommend speaking with the staff. They are very good at helping someone get their account back ^^

Not so much a photo this time, and this one definitely needs some context:
I'm in a game dev program in Austin, TX. All of the participants act as the class leads, taking either the game director or producer role for a 3-week tenure (I already did mine - phew!). The 6th leadership tenure is about to start, and to start their presentation tomorrow, they made this video with the help of our UI designer - an 80's sitcom intro to announce all of the point people for the next three weeks. I'm the QA lead in here; my instructions were to "make that face you always make." |
Haha, fun video Pkero
|
That was so bad... that it was perfect [lol]
That deserves an A |
I can't get over the old school, classroom instructional VHS vibe of the whole video, Pkero.
Like, it just makes me think of those horrible videos you have to watch in Driver's Ed. [lol] |
You got to watch videos in driver's ed? :( I just got shown a ton of horrifying photos of car accidents...
|
Mostly videos of singing teenagers that looked like they'd been filmed with a potato.
Trying to be hip, down with what kids thought was cool so they would learn. I wish people would realize that young adults do not respond in the right way to Sesame street-like educational videos. |
So true. I have always responded well to being treated the age I acted. Treating me like a child wont get you positive results.
I honestly found the graphic imagery is the best way. Show them just how dangerous that car is that they are driving. The guy who taught me said he's had a lot of students pass out from the pictures he showed me. Like especially for a big semi. I'm terrified of them now, and for good reason [yes] People often forget we're driving faster than humans were designed to withstand if a sudden stop occurred. |
Definitely would be a better tactic. My home town was very small and rural, everyone knew everyone.
We also had the highest death rate of any school district within the county or something. All to accidents unrelated to substance abuse. (Some suicides, allergic reactions too, but mostly car crashes) |
Wear your seatbelts, everyone. Even in the backseat.
|
Theres laws here now that state utes (kind of like American pickup style vehicles) must have a non-stretchable cover over any loose loads on the trays. If it cannot be covered it must be tied down securely.
This is all to minimise the creation of large projectiles during an accident. It makes sense, but the cops here are going stupid on it sometimes. Things like a bloke had his work boots in his tray travelling home from work one arvo and got pulled over. For every item unsecured, they can issue a fine somewhere in the vicinity of $400-$500, cant remember the exact figure. He copped that twice. One for each boot. 99% of the time, you'd never even bat an eyelid at that. Good law, bad policing. Today, I was merging onto a highway from an on ramp and there was a car covering me as I needed to merge. Here the law states that you have to give way to traffic merging, either by slowing to allow them to enter the flow of traffic, or moving across lanes where appropriate to create room. Fair enough, the person driving was a learner, but the parent instructing them was a fucktard because the lane opposite was completely empty all around, and they had plenty of room to slow too. The instructing parent didnt even blink until I had flipped him off and sped up to get into the flow of traffic, and it was only then I saw him checking mirrors and such to instruct the driver. If you drive like an asshat, you'll get abused for it. The driver was doing what he was told. The instructing parent was a moron. |
I had a friend who absolutely refused to wear his seatbelt while in the backseat. Granted, a lot of people don't wear the seatbelt in the backseat because once you're a certain age, it's no longer against the law to not wear your seatbelt in the backseat. But the thing was, he was once in a car accident where he drove the car into a pillar with two passengers -- one riding shotgun and the other in the backseat without a seatbelt -- and the girl in the backseat flew forward and somehow ended up in the lap of the girl riding shotgun. And it makes me think that experiences like this make young people think they're invincible.

It stops being illegal? I mean... it should always be illegal. Just because you want an Darwin Award, doesn't mean you should scar the lives of little children who have to see your lifeless body :(
|
Agreed, howdy!
More to the point, children are physically the ones better off NOT being restrained in this case! Before a certain age, not all of their bones have even formed yet, so theyre more flexible and also heal faster and better than people older. Once theyre older they're more likely to break things in a accident. Unless theyre drunk. Apparently drunks fare better in crashes than their sober counterparts in some instances. I think its to do with their reaction times and them still being jelly-like during the initial reaction where as a sober person has already tensed up for impact and are rigid and more likely to suffer greater injury. Or something to that effect anyways. Basically, dont buckle your kids up or something? I dunno? |

Salvete - And they don't think the increase in people flying through windows is unusual?
Drop - If I remember right, there's something about the ragdoll effect that can leave a person completely unharmed in a fall. Granted that sounds insanely hard to master. |
I don't know. I have always buckled up, regardless of where I was sitting in the car.
|
I believe in the West Coast States, wearing belts is required for all ages by law.
|
I like that, Clair Voyant.
|
Yup, definitely required by law in Washington [yes]
|
Poet, I think you're right. Ragdolling sounds correct.
Attempting to do some space painting style pictures today hopefully. I'm going to practice some pokemon ones do to with my GF's nephew at some point because he's pokemon mad. It's going to be quite a challenge, but if they turn out marginally OK, I'll post some pics up here possibly. |
I learned it from a video of a stunt guy. He ragdolled about 30ish feet and a very far fall and walked away without an injury.
Pokemon madness? The early versions or the later ones? |
Oohh can't wait to see, Drop Bear :)
|
I never ended up getting to them. Hopefully this saturday all going well and if the weather is ok.
They'll be the Gen 1 pokemon to start with. They're the ones I know. I'm only just getting to the ones after the original games now... about 15 years later lol |
