=O!!
Was this only recently? I never heard about this. ^^; This is surprising news indeed. =\ I wonder why though? And how will this affect Heroes overall? =O |
Maybe that's why the writing is so terrible this season. :gonk:
|
Tim gave up a lot of his part in the writing of the episodes so it's gone from 'Good vs Evil' and turned into 'The Days Of Our Lives' {American Soapie}>.<
I hope Tim takes back some of his writing power because he was what gave the show that spark, besides all the awesome scenes. I'm also like Squished Soap except that I thought it was totally boring when it first aired here in Australia, up until Season 2 Finale, I never watched Heroes. I've only seen episodes 1-2 of season 1, final episode of Season 2 & all the aired episodes of Season 3. I doubt that Peter even knew that his father had a power which is why he so willingly hugged him, Peter's powers most likely descend from Arthur's but are a more evolved version of them so Peter can just be in the vicinity rather then make physical contact. |
Peter should have known that his dad has a power by now. The events of season 2 did that - his parents were both in that photograph.
As for Peter needing to learn how to use all his abilities before he can use them, that's not necessarily universally true at least. He just got in the vicinity of Ted and immediately started glowing before he even saw Ted and realized that Ted was the one with that ability. I don't know how the change in writers is specifically effecting the show, but I do understand one of the problems of season 3. A lot of outspoken fans complained that they didn't like season 2 because it didn't have enough action for them. I think that the writers overreacted to this, and have now gone too far the other way. Now the show is too fast paced to be able to develop the story as much as it needs. I hope that the writers realize that they are making a mistake here, and at least slow down the pace enough to give more story. Try to find a middle ground or something that can please both the action-mongers and those of us who actually care about the story. |

I watched an episode that was being repeated last night. It was in Ireland and someone was looking for Peter and I was all confused to gave up. Although, Shimawa_zen said that Season two is too slow to develop and three is too fast. I'm not sure if I should catch up on it,will it be worth it? |
Not the characters.. The actors are dating.
|
Oh xDD I'm stupid. ty.
|
Oh, I'm sorry I confused you, Squished Soap. ^^; I should have been more clear about that. xDD;;
And Shimawa_zen, I agree with you that they need to give us more story. =\ On one hand, I'm glad that they actually listened to us on our comments about Season 2. On the other hand though, they're interpreting what we wanted in a more extreme way than we had envisioned. I hope the next episode slows down a little though. But, for some reason, I kinda doubt it. ^^; Not when we're already in the middle of everything. =\ |
I don't mean to sound rude or get jumped by Hero fans but Heros is really X-men. Heck it's basically Marvel. You can't really do a superhero show without stealing from DC or Marvel as they've captured many plots. I swear some fo the Heros characters are like the X-men ones. Like the fire guy, he's basically Pyro from X-men. Not as cool though, Pyro was epic in the comics.
Split personalities sounds like Jean Grey/Phoenix *shifty eyes* |
Well, you're right, it IS very similar to Marvel. =P But hey, everything is similar to a lot of things anyway nowadays. ^^; It's like saying how Agent Cody Banks is exactly like James Bond and stuff, and even how every girl who has magical healing powers are all the same.
But, it's not "basically Marvel", as you so definitively put it. =P The premises are different. The Heroes cast do not all know each other and practically live in the same place like Marvel. They both have their differences as well~ ;] And personally, I think it's unfair to both Marvel and Heroes to keep comparing the two of them like that. They may be similar (even TOO similar), but we should appreciate their differences and identities as two different things as well, instead of just judging them in comparison to the other~ It's easier to appreciate both of them that way. :> But, to each his/her own, I guess. ^^; This is just my two cents, anyway. ;] <3 |
Nicely put Rylynne. It really isn't fair to either series to keep compairing the two. The basic premise of "people with special abilities" is really where the similarities stop. You could list off hundreds of other things that share that premise, but that doesn't mean that they are the same, or even that they are copying each other. I appreciate what Marvel has created with X-Men, and I appreciate what Heroes does as well - and for each of them I enjoy the uniqueness that they employ in the plot and characters.
You also can't claim that two characters are the same just because they have the same or similar power. Someone's ability is just one aspect of their character - it's how they choose to use it, and the other aspects of their personality that define them. There is no equivalent to Pyro on Heroes - even his exact power isn't copied. Pyro can't create fire from nothing, but the characters on Heroes that can control fire can create it as well. The blue-fire villain in Heroes doesn't look like much more than an "extra villain" - and he certainly isn't even in Pyro's league, let alone a rip-off of Pyro. And Claire's mom is certainly a completely different character than Pyro as well. As for any kind of comparison between Jean Gray and Nikki - I feel that there is absolutely no grounds for it. I don't mean to sound rude or anything, but this kind of blanket comparison leaves no room for appreciation for the shows being compared. Might as well call Star Wars, Star Trek, Lost in Space, 2001, Stargate, etc. all the same because they are all space odysseys. No. It doesn't work like that. Any basic premise that you can come up with has already been done by someone somewhere at sometime - it is what you do with it that makes it into a unique story. |
Didn't really got into the show until the second season. It was my boyfriend who get all happy like a little girl that has a secret admirer everytime the show comes out:cool:. I never really get into most tv shows until it gets really good, then I try not to miss any episodes after that. It's a pretty good show, just like any show it is like watching a soap opera minus the cheesiness from their acting. It's like X-Men but instead of calling it that they call it Heroes.
I mean I love X-Men follow up on the comics and not just the cartoons, as well as the movies; so if you like X-Men or other "Being with powers" such as Superman, etc. Then you'll definitely like Heroes.:) Quote:

They just ruined the lastest episode right and left. That was pitiful. It was ridiculously sloppy and full of unnecessary extras. For one thing, they threw in too many stories, most of which were out of character or not relevant to the audience. I particularly hated the Sylar/Elle backstory – it was horrible. For one thing, it didn’t even fit in with what was already established, either timeline wise or with the events and personalities. It was painful to watch. Sylar is the known child of Arthur and Angela – two of the founders – they wouldn’t be experimenting on him like that. And I can’t see Elle being any part of the equation either. Besides, there has been no acknowledgment or even hints of any previous relationship between them in their encounters. Elle tried to kill Sylar without an ounce of remorse. Sylar tried to kill Elle without even recognition. Besides, don’t you think HRG would have shown some regret of his own involvement in making Sylar a killer when Sylar went after Claire? Wouldn’t HRG about murdered the Company just for that offense alone? Seriously.
I also hated the backstory given for Meredith. So apparently she had a brother – that’s one family connection I never needed to know about. So that brainless blob would be Claire’s uncle then. Not so interesting that the two fire throwers are related either. Besides, why would Meredith be hanging around Texas if that was the case? She barely got free, then she just hangs out not knowing that her daughter is about to show up on her doorstep? That was pathetic. Besides, I can’t see the Company ever wanting Meredith’s brother as an agent. Alas, a few episodes ago I would have said that it was nice having Meredith back again. But if this is how they are going to write for her, then I hope they kill her off quickly before they do more damage to her. What they should have done was focus more on what the main plotline of the episode was supposed to be – the Arthur story. They needed to just develop that more and forget all the other trash that they dragged in. We needed a deeper back story – one that showed how and why Arthur started turning bad and more of what led up to his attempt to murder Nathan. He needed to seem like more than just a villain. But now he is just a blanket bad guy. Besides – what kept him from handling that situation in a more reasonable way? Like revealing everything to Nathan about the Company and his real connections with Linderman? Or, an alternative that I don’t particularly like, force Nathan to change his mind with his ability? There really was no reason to kill Nathan no matter what way you look at it. |
Please excuse the double post, but nobody else has posted, and it has been over a week and a half, and there is new material to discuss.
Thoughts on this week's episode: Everything bad I said about the scenes between Sylar and Elle in last week's episode - I take it all back. The developments in this week's episode were far worth it. This has got to be one of the best episodes that Heroes has come up with. It had some pretty big plot developments, lots of food for thought, some very powerful dramatic scenes, and even some humor thrown into the mix. The scenes between Sylar and Elle were my favorite - excellently done, and very moving. I don't think Sylar will have to fight that hunger anymore, now that he has a new way to acquire powers. His character has completed the transformation he has been going through all season. |
Really? I'm annoyed with the idea that they're recycling about the eclipse for tonight's episode. This whole season has been a huge disappointment. x_x;;;
|
I don't see the eclipse as a recycling (not in that sense anyways) - it is one of the themes of the show - one of the unsolved mysteries. Eclipses are very frequent natural occurrences, and they have shown to be related to the development of people's powers. This is now an exploration of something that has only been hinted at for the past two and a half years.
Sorry you've hated this season so much. (I've hated some parts of it, but I've been trying to overlook those enough to enjoy the parts that I do like.) But the Heroes writers have shown that they do respond to fan criticism (albeit a bit too much), so keep posting specific thoughts about what you like / don't like, and maybe someone on the staff will see them and take them into account next season. If I could change just two things for future seasons: - Slow down the pacing enough to allow for more character development again - Stop giving characters pointless / pathetic deaths - if you kill them off, kill them off with meaning and significance to the plot. (Okay, still annoyed about Adam's death, I admit it.) |
What annoys me about the eclipse thing is that Adam had his powers for hundreds of years. And Angela and Arthur Patrelli and a lot of others have had their powers for decades. Surely there were ellipses before these 2.. What makes them so special, you know? It just doesn't fit with the storyline at all.
|
It isn't just those two that were special. There was an eclipse right when Hiro went back in time (remember when he paused time mid-eclipse to save "Kensei" from the arrows?) - that was the eclipse when Adam got his powers. Angela and Arthur must have gotten their powers during an eclipse as well - they just haven't explored that part of the backstory yet. Arthur mentioned that he had taken an interest in the eclipses as well - he probably noticed that all their (his generation's) abilities started during an eclipse as well.
|
But no one has ever mentioned losing powers during an eclipse before. So why now? It doesn't fit with the story.
|
its not so much as "Hate" its more like "WA DA FOOK!?!?!1111"
you know the show can be better than this, but it seems like all these things are just tossed in to get them out of the way. |
The only possible idea I come up with is that powers are only lost during a "total eclipse", instead of just any eclipse. But still - even if that were the case, it shouldn't block abilities in any more than the few minutes of total eclipse. Although it doesn't make sense on why an eclipse would be able to block abilities in the first place.
I also found the whole Daphne's secret to be a let down. She acted like there was something really horrific that was being held over her head. Also - why did she somehow know that her abilities were going to disappear during the eclipse? She claimed that she left so that Matt wouldn't see her like that - but how would she know that she would revert back to being handicapped? Nobody else got any warning about loosing their abilities. |
=_= now Sylar is all evil again.
bad timing imo Quote:
|
I love Heroes. The first season is way better than the 2nd 2, though. But when I first started watching the show, I was hooked right from the start. It is kind of strange that it's a plot you can't describe to someone and actually do it justice.
|
[email protected] that got murdered on her birthday >__> poor girl.. the scene was funny though after xD;
|
Haha, ya..
Sylar: "Cake?!" :lol: |
