Since the films are based upon the books, you can discuss both of them here.
|
I used to be a Twilight hater till I fell for it during winter vacation before school started this year. Now Stephenie Meyer and everybody else involved is rolling in my money. *twitch* I don't want to say that I'm a die-hard fan though because at least I don't camp out at the shooting locations for the films and I have no intention of meeting Stephenie Meyer.
True, the characters are pretty much Mary Sue's but at least it's a bit of easy reading that ends in...well...anti-climax. I blame Zaner (from here) and my other friends that keep talking about it for getting me into it. Otherwise I would not be stuck in this! What brought me to read Twilight after all their talking was having a dream about Robert Pattinson in a stage version of the book/movie (I had not read or seen it prior to said crazy dream). The rest is history. That being said, I would NOT murder anti-Twilight fans because I was one of them too. In a way I still am. There's just things in there that annoy me. I just like the visual aspect of it. |
Haha, this is funny. ^_^
I have a love-hate relationship with the Twilight series; I fell in love with the first book. I recommended it to a friend or two, enjoyed the silliness, light hearted style and, because I'm a blonde, I thought that the whole thing ended with Twilight. I was easily taken in by the epilogue. . ^_^; So when I saw that there was a sequel I was surprised, when I saw that there was a fan following I was even more surprised. What can I say, I'm slow. In the end, I think it's silly that people go to such extremes over this series. Is is perfect? No. Can it be enjoyable? Of course; anything can if you approach it with the right mind frame! After all, it's a book geared towards youth readers; it was intended to be entertainment, not a literary masterpiece. That being said, I was disappointed with the last 3 books, especially the final one. But that doesn't make me hate the series. And the movie? I bought it, and my besties and I watch it so often it drives my dad crazy. Why? Because it makes us laugh... oh, and the male cast is nice to look at, but we pretend we aren't that superficial. But... have people really been hurt for not liking/reading Twilight? O.o I heard something like that, but I thought it was a rumor... |

Okay, having read what people are saying about these attacks by "twihards"... Yes, it is absolutely ridiculous and positively frightening that some people will go to such lengths to defend a book. I have no sympathy whatsoever for those people. On the other hand... it's really sad that some people won't touch the books themselves because of these idiots. It's like rejecting Christianity because of the KKK (please, I'm not trying to judge any religion, just drawing a comparison). The fact is, there are a lot of normal, even nice people who like Twilight. It just that the crazy ones stand out more.
My opinion of the books, though? I like them! It's that simple. They're not "good literature," no, but I don't care. I read for enjoyment, and Twilight delivers on that end. There are some bits that get to me, but overall, it's just fun. :) |
Twilight Saga
Hello People. Any comments on Twilight feel free to talk about it.
Like what is your favorite book to the saga? Who is your favorite Character? personally I don't have a favorite book and I just LOVE Jacob and Alice. They are my favorite characters I've seen the movie and personally it doesn't do the story justice :stare: So come on and lets talk about Twilight |
There really isn't a lot to Twilight to make it worth talking about.
that series is just a huge abusive relationship and a lot of baaaaw-ing. Bella is a horrible character, a self insert, and if Twilight was its own fanfiction, Bella would be a mary sue. Vampires don't sparkle. I understand artistic liberty, and there are no set rules for vampires, but sparkling? -facepalm- It also gives a bad example for what you should look for in people. I've heard a lot of people breaking up relationships because "I want someone more like Edward." come on, he's a fictional character. I do give one good thing to Twilight though, it got a lot of people to read. |
Well thats stupid if people break up because they want someone to be like a fictional character. I love my partner very much. But thanks for your rant

Twilight .:: HAte or like? why?
Do you Like twilight? Or do you think it's just not your type... Well heres my Opinion
My opinion.:: I only read it when im bored Dont like it much because the story itself is to complicated... She wants to become a vampire but edward wont bite her... he wants to be with her and finally bites her in like the 3rd book. Then there are always bumps in roads like bellas dad... i mean....HELLO let her do what she wants its her choice and her life let her live it! I like it because it has romance and jealousy [ { Talking about all books now } ] and VAMPIRES ugh i just love those blood sucking things... they are always hot and vampires! im like in love with them! but twilight sometimes makes me think twice about them... I think its because im bipolar but other then that... I LOVE/HATE TWILIGHT AND PROUD yes really random so what do you think about twilight [ { or the other books} ] feel free to post your opinions here :D |
LOVE TWILIGHT 100%
|
Love Twilight, but I'm not a neurotic freak fangirl.
|
I liked the basic idea of Twilight (I'm a vampire fan girl *giggles* ^.^) but some of the problems and twists, just kind of threw me off. Like sparkling vampires. That made no sense. And all the problems with Bella's dad, and the thing with Victoria and James.
I don't know... And the movie was iffy at best. Although I liked watching the commentary. I like some aspects of it, but hate most. |
WHAT the sparkling was lovely. Better then freaking burning up and everytime they touch the sun like the other vampires. I thought it was original and refreshing
|
I'll be honest, I didn't enjoy the books. It was a neat concept, but I just don't like how Meyer writes.
What I do like is how it's gotten a lot of my friends reading something. Granted, they're reading something that annoyed the snot out of me, but they're READING. Girls who claimed they hated books were reading long 400 page novels, and that made me happy. Really, I don't care whether people like or hate the book. It's the fanatics that irritate me. I can't stand seeing people going "UGH HOW CAN YOU LIKE THIS TRASH?!" or "WHAT THE HELL YOU DON'T LIKE THIS SERIES?! WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?" It's a BOOK. Calm down. ...That's my take on the whole thing. |
I really love the Twilight book series! I was the one of first kids in my town to get interested in the books... that was before it got all crazy popular. I loved how everything Edward did in the first book would have made anyone else look like a total creeper, but only he could pull it off... The last book felt like two books in one: Bella = Human and Bella = Vampire. Poor Jacob.
However, the movie really didn't do it for me. Not only did Edward seem way to mood-swingy, but the movie left out some of my favorite Edward scenes! Not to mention the movie totally messed up the scene where Bella gets saved from the creepy stalkers by Edward. Plus... I'm not a fan of Cedward. I read some of his interviews about the movie, and he was totally bashing Edward! And is it just me or did Jasper look like he was in a perpetual state of shock throughout the entire movie? He hardly said a word! The only characters I was okay with was Billy, Jacob, Charlie, and Alice. And Jacob didn't even get his ponytail! It was stolen from him by James! The movie ruined it for me. Now I don't really even like the books any more. It's horrible... ...Anyway, that's just my opinion.... I'm going to leave now before anyone tries to kill me... |
For the record for any of you little fangirls staring at you comp screens screaming "You never read the books and so you should keep my mouth shut!!! Edward is the smexy-est!": I did read your precious twilight (no matter how much I wish I hadn't) not skimming actually read. All 4 piles of literary trash! so shut up!
__________________________________________________ _________________________________________ today i shall be reviewing the book (since its what started this whole mess in the first place) plot: sorry couldn't find one! In any of the books! Instead we get smut. Pages and pages of smut. I really couldn't care less about how edward smells, or that he looks like he's sculpted from marble! That does not a plot make! A plot normally flows like this: Beginning: we are introduced to the character and the problem they face or going to face in the story (the difference between edward and bella could have fit this bill but they let it go and we got a new problem, the bad vamps, which is switching plot half way through a story. Not something you can do!) Events: things happen that either help or hinder our main character, or protagonist, toward the final problem (no smut is not an advancement of plot. Next!) Climax: our character faces the conflict. At this point we see how the conflict is going to resolve (no. just no! Neither of the problems faced in the first book (or any of its sequels) were well done or well thought out. Over all fail!) Resolution: the lose ends of the story are tied up now that the conflict is faced and delt with (still a fail. Not gonna change. I will say though best part of book, cause it's the end of the book!) smeyer seems to had missed the day that taught this in english because her story sure doesn't have any plot in any form. In fact the bad vamps at the end seem more like an after thought then a piece of plot. A weak (or in this case non existent) plot for a story cannot be saved. It's the foundation for the story and with out it the house (or story) falls in on its self in failure characters: (I will focus of ediwed and bellikinz for the moment. But in do time I shall write a full flaw write up for your dear Jacob too. Never fear team Jacob. First off lets see what a character is supposed to be: character |ˈkariktər| noun 1 the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual • the distinctive nature of something : gas lamps give the area its character. • the quality of being individual, typically in an interesting or unusual way • strength and originality in a person's nature 2 a person in a novel, play, or movie. All right so a character is person in novel play or movie that behaves in a manner original and special to the person or character. Literature characters are most successful when a character is real enough to have the reader connect with him/her and care about the situation the character finds them self in. Hum believable characters huh? Didn't see any of those. Shall I break down edward and bella for you? Just a character summary. Bella: self sacrificing, caring, clumsy, obsessive, oblivious, emotionally unstable. Edward: stalking, overly protection, controlling, cunning, withdrawn, freakishly jelious of all other ppl bella comes in contact with. Now answer me this: how do to people with almost nothing in common fall so dramatically in and had never even really talk to each other love and become so compatible all of a sudden? Yeah I have no idea either. In fact, although she really is emotionally unstable, the only trait of bella's that ever seems to hurt her is she's clumsy. But that is neither conflict nor and place for character development. Edward is equal dreadful a character, cause we all know he's perfect, bella never shuts up about it! And all of the controlling and manipulative things he does to bella is written off as protective loving. No! Just no! For girls to think its true love, or ok to let anyone stop you from talking to someone you care about is wrong. Edward is a stalking ***** and thats all there is to it. These characters are not deep, believable, thoughtful, or even exciting. They are dull and one noted. A result of a supreme lack of originality in writing or even of any thought while writing. Please if you're going to idleize a character pick one with morals or a thought process. Not bella-wella or edikins. over all this book was not: well written, intresting, intellegent, mildy believeable, or worth my time!so kindly shut up about it. its trash. get over it. because quite honestly, if this is where popular litterature is going, kindly leave me off the bus now (sorry bout the length) |
I'v read all four books and love them.
|
I feel like this is sort of on topic and yet sort of not at the same time. Lately, I keep hearing people attributing people's dislike of Twilight to their love of Harry Potter. I personally think that while it could be true for some people, in my opinion, the Twilight series just isn't that great. The ideas are alright, but not that very well executed. Particularly Breaking Dawn, where the characters are so...out of character..
People keep saying not to compare but then they keep saying "you just don't like it because you like Harry Potter!" so then I have to get into this whole thing about why I like Harry Potter better than Twilight aside from the fact that one came before the other. Has anyone else come across the same thing? |

shows you how lazy I've gotten with reading posts. I totally missed that one O.o
I still love the bit where she's making Charlie pancakes but he's scowling into the cereal bowl... |
Yeah, there are a lot of inconsistent parts, but I think that writers just get sidetracked sometimes and forget minor details like that >>
|
I also heard from someone, but I haven't checked, that the word "blonde" and "blond" keep getting used interchangeably.. @
I wonder what Breaking Dawn would have been if Stephenie Meyer didn't have to hold back... |
I personally use blonde because that's how I learned to spell it when I was little, but I guess it can be used both ways. When I'm using word, it always corrects me when I leave on the e.
I think that she could have come up with a better conclusion for it all. I don't think that it would have been all super happy ending blah blah blah. I think she was trying to do what she thought would make the readers the happiest by letting all the Cullens live and having Alice come back and yada yada. |
Word corrects me, too. I used to get really confused, and I still always get the urge to stick that e at the end >_<
I agree with the ending. The Volturi had such great potential as villains and then there's no fight even with all the build-up. I mean, it's nice that they all lived and all, but it didn't feel like the characters earned their happy ending. |
I don't spell theatre the way they want you to spell it either xD Some words you just do wrong because they're engraved in you like that haha!
Yeah, I know. The happy ending was a waste of time because nothing happened. Whoo hoo Bella can shield everyone from Jane and Alec. What a boring ending. Bella to the rescue and BAM its all over. |
