A three year old writing a book. >.>

kittykatt89 10-04-2009 03:59 AM

i loved the books. i wasn't going to read them because everybody was reading but then my friend got me to read them. it took me about four days to read all four of the books because i just could not put them. i thought the movie was good but they should have stayed closer to the book because some of the parts that they changed were important for what happens in new moon. i cant wait to see new moon and see how it turns out because it is a different directer.

Twilight - I hate the book

It has come to my attention that Twilight is like plague.
I hate the book. Yet I've watched the movie and read some of the book.
It's way to dramatic.
But is it the soppy love story the reason why so many enjoy the book?

Erailea 10-04-2009 05:23 PM

it plays into the fantasies of the girly girls... honestly I see the book as nothing but abusive relationships, but many see it as the "perfect fantasy".

That and all four books are poorly written. Conflicts are in the wrong order (meaning the most dangerous tend to be before the final one, which makes everything anti climatic) and those climax's Meyer does end up putting in the right places end up being so poorly thought out the book ends in a "...seriously? that's it? No war? really?" that was me on the last book. All that lead up to a HUGE chat fest. BORING (I don't know why I read all of the books, I hated each one, but I read them all anyway... more or less I think I was looking to see why there was so much hype on them).

Not to mention Bella plays against her own character all the time. "Oh I'm so ugly, I have so many flaws" and yet every male character wants her and she can do anything and everything she wanted to without so much of an issue.

My view, in a nut shell, for this series falls right down to this picture:

fullmoonlightblood, I've merged your thread with our original Twilight topic.

Always remember to search the forum before making a new thread.

Erailea - I agree with you. These books are poorly written. The only way I could get through the first book (I haven't bothered reading further) was by counting grammatical errors and things that made me cringe. My friend and I had a list- we made it a drinking game. The thing that bother me is that these books managed to get past their editor riddled with bad English and glaring errors.

If I had any self respect, I wouldn't have finished the first one. I'm not really sure why I did- I think ti was because everyone was raving about them. I feel like these are stories I would have written when I was in Junior High. Everything idealized with a layer of badly written angst.

Twilight is not one of my favorite series. However I really did like New Moon. It captivated me and kept me guessing. It made me think 'If this is how Edward is going to be whats going to change to keep the main couple. Or will that be changed?'
I also some what enjoyed the first book. However after reading the first few chapters of Midnight sun most of me wishes she had just writen it like that to begin with.

Aisllinn 10-06-2009 11:59 PM

I think New moon and Eclipse were my favorite, just because Jacob is my favorite character and you get to learn to much more about him in those two books. Not to mention they helped me learn not to hate Rosalie.

screamolight 10-09-2009 01:45 PM

no idea but i hope to read all her books...i have most of them anyway

Erailea 10-09-2009 04:31 PM

you know what really freaks me out about this lady. SHe can't write to save her life, she's a horrible story teller and yet she's so popular. It's almost revolting. So many amazing authors go unnoticed, one's who know how to tell a story, know how to write properly and stick to the rules of their world (Meyer breaks her own rules all the bloody time, it pisses me of. The Twilight series is so unstable).

Now she's making a time traveling mermaid/siren combo book. WTF!

This woman needs to stop writing. Seriously. And every interview thing I have seen about her makes her look like snobby little prat who can't take any kind of negative criticism that would actually make her work better.

ExplodingPocky 10-09-2009 07:05 PM

I used to be a fan of Twilight before I saw and read House of Night.

Man, I cannot believe that Stephanie Meyer decided to stop writing Midnight Sun because of the internet leak. I'm sure it would've turned out to be a great book but, now no one is going to get to read the finished product. This infuriates me!!! The first four books were amazing and it would've been nice to see what happens next. We can only hope that she will get over the internet leak and finish writing the book so we can all stop sitting on the edge of out seats.

alyakcim 10-12-2009 01:15 AM

Twilight is a horrible book series. Horrible. Disgusting.

SakuraTears 10-12-2009 03:19 PM

I am not a fan of the books. I agree with others that is it poorly written and I don't like her idea of "vampires", even though I am open to new ideas about vampires, or any mythical creatures. I just find them kind of lame. I really didn't like any of the characters when I was reading Twilight. I didn't care if any of the characters died.

actually, there's a lot of controversy around that "leak". Many think Meyer did it herself so she could throw a fit and get more news on her. And honestly, based on pratty attitude in everything I've read about her, I really don't doubt it

viva la kayla 10-12-2009 10:50 PM

@Erailea-
I agree with you. I think she did leak it just for attention. I mean, who else would have access to it? If it was stolen, the she should have kept it hidden better. I doubt it was stolen though, because then there would be a huge controversy over it.

@ExplodingPocky-
Oh my... I love the House of Night! I have read every book, and I can't wait for Tempted to come out on the thirtieth. Have you ever read the Blue Bloods series?

I think the "claim" was an editor leaked it. But no editor in their right mind would ever do such a thing because they'd not only lose their job as an editor, they'd never be able to get another editing job again! No one wants to higher and untrust worthy person to look over unprinted books.

Plus, I don't think books hit the editing phase until near completion because authors write and re-write chapters (... then again, that's what GOOD authors do. I don't count Meyer among them). Only a few small chapters were put out (from what I heard from my roommate who loves the books), which means most of it wasn't done, thus there was no point for an editor to even see it.

If you look at this website it shows you one of the very negative things about Twilight. It shows how the Twilight books are bad for your love life. It is very informative.

here is the text from the article if you don't want to click the link.

Is Twilight Bad For Your Love Life?

One of Glamour's female dating bloggers gets on the "Twilight" train and finally reads the book everyone's been talking about. But what they aren't talking about is the not-so-great romantic role models in the book …

[Editor's note: Erin Meanley represents the female perspective in "Single-ish", a blog for Glamour.com ... this is an excerpt from that blog.]

Some of you told me I wouldn't like Twilight, but I bought the book anyway just to see what all the hoopla was about. Well, I finally finished it, and ... I appreciated the romance-factor, but I couldn't help thinking it was giving girls the wrong idea about love and relationships. I did a feminist reading of Twilight and here's what bugged me:

1. Bella has no outside hobbies.
After she moves to Washington, Bella makes a few friends, but she's not interested in them. Mostly her life is about Edward, Edward, Edward. But what relationship can survive that? Take it from Simone de Beauvoir, who writes about this in The Second Sex: "Two lovers destined solely for each other are already dead: they die of ennui, of the slow agony of a love that feeds on itself." (658)

Outside interests breathe life into a relationship. If you want a healthy one, you better get a life, whether you're a dead vampire or not. On the other hand, Romeo and Juliet were teenagers obsessed with each other, so I don't know what to make of that.

2. The guys are totally unrealistic.
Women are always writing male characters how we'd like guys to be — not how they really are. We're setting up expectations. In Twilight's beach scene, Mike Newton brings Bella "sandwiches and an array of sodas to choose from" (118). Excuse me, but a teenage boy at a beach is either going to be goofing around with the other boys, throwing marshmallows, or spending hours in the water.

3. Bella is brainwashed.
Bella tells us repeatedly that Edward the smug vampire is "too perfect," (256) "flawless," (261) and has an "angel's face" (262). I nearly got brainwashed. But it's like, he could kill her at any second, yet she continues to trust and lust. Of course he doesn't kill her, so we're supposed to be grateful and think highly of him. Such manly restraint!

But he is always talking down to her about her safety, like she's a porcelain doll. He tells Bella he can't leave her alone for a second. Even doing laundry, he speculates she might fall into the dryer. Really? There's nothing wrong with being a klutz, but even joking like she can't possibly function ... well, that doesn't do wonders for a girl's confidence. It turns her into a dependent. And as my mom says, no one loves a helpless woman. Obviously, for the story, it's the knight in shining armor thing, I get it, but I don't have to like it.

4.Bella is a domestic diva.
She cooks for her bachelor dad every night. (Okay, I guess cooking is technically a hobby. But she doesn't do it out of joy, really. It's more out of a sense of obligation.) Bella does laundry, too. But I think we only see her do homework once. See, she's too busy feeding a man to stop and feed her mind. There's nothing wrong with cooking for a man, but doing it in tandem with constantly getting saved by a guy and worshipping said guy ... it's just too much. At least Belle in Disney's Beauty and the Beast loves to read, right?
But! I am not saying I didn't enjoy the book at times, and that I wouldn't have swooned at 13. I just worry that some people will read it without a critical eye (I know, it is just a story). Some girls might expect their love life to look just like Bella's. Now that's what I call scary.

Fastion 10-13-2009 01:52 AM

@ Rosalie Thorne - I can't tell you how many time's I've heard about girl's dumping their boyfriend's to "find their Edward". Can someone please slap these people. I also heard in one of these Twilight forums floating around on this site that someone's friend is staying with her abusing boy friend and every time he beats on her he ends it with something like "this is so romantic, it's just like Twilight"

Creepy. No thank you. I'd like a kind, loving and devoted boyfriend (I am a girl), but I don't want a creepy dominating boyfriend. I like thinking and acting for myself thank you, if I want help or support I'll ask or you'll know based on my actions/reactions/mood.
