Did you know...

The Midwestern United States (or Midwest) refers to the north-central states of the United States of America, specifically Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Both the geographic center of the contiguous U.S. (in Kansas) and the population center of the U.S. (now in Missouri) are in the Midwest. The United States Census Bureau divides this region into the East North Central States (essentially the Great Lakes States); and the West North Central States (essentially the Great Plains States).

The term Midwest has been in common use for over 100 years. Other designations for the region have fallen into disuse, such as the "Northwest" or "Old Northwest" (from Northwest Territory), "Mid-America," or "Heartland". Since the book Middletown appeared in 1929, sociologists have often used Midwestern cities, and the Midwest generally, as "typical" of the entire nation. The Midwest region of the United States has a higher employment to population ratio (the number of people employed as a percent of the population) than the Northeast, the West, the South, or the Sun Belt states.

Eroy 04-08-2007 06:50 AM

The technical defenition of the Midwest is anything west of the Allegheny River. Waters from the Allegheny run into the Mississippi while any river east of the Allegheny will run into the Atlantic Ocean. Western Pennsylvania and the southeastern corner of New York state are technically considered part of the midwest, however the majority of their land mass (Especially New York) is either in the North East or Mid Atlantic.

The term "Middle West" originated in the 19th century, followed by "Midwest." The heart of the Midwest is bounded by the Great Lakes and the Ohio and Mississippi River Valleys, the "Old Northwest" (or the "West"), an area that comprised the original Northwest Territory. This area is now called the "East North Central States" by the United States Census Bureau and the "Great Lakes" region by its inhabitants.

The Northwest Territory was created out of the ceded English (formerly French and Native American) frontier lands under the Northwest Ordinance by the Continental Congress just before the U.S. Constitution was ratified. The Northwest Ordinance prohibited slavery and religious discrimination, and promoted public schools and private property, but did not apply after the territories became states. The Northwest Ordinance also specified that the land be surveyed and sold in the rectangular grids of the Public Land Survey System, which was first used in Ohio. The effect of this grid system can be seen throughout the Midwest in such things as county shapes and road networks.

In contrast, land in Kentucky and Tennessee was surveyed and sold using metes and bounds. As Revolutionary War soldiers were awarded lands in Ohio and migrated there and to other Midwestern states with other pioneers, the area became the first thoroughly "American" region. Frederick Jackson Turner celebrated its frontier for shaping the national character of individualism and democracy.

The Midwest region today sometimes refers not only to states created from the Northwest Ordinance, but also may include states between the Appalachian Mountains and the Rocky Mountains and north of the Ohio River. In all, 12 states are covered by The American Midwest: An Interpretive Encyclopedia (2006).

The term West was applied to the region in the early years of the country. Later, the region west of the Appalachians was divided into the Far West (now just the West), and the Middle West. Some parts of the Midwest have also been referred to as Northwest for historical reasons (for instance, this explains the Minnesota-based Northwest Airlines as well as Northwestern University in Illinois), so the current Northwest region of the country is called the Pacific Northwest to make a clear distinction.

Am I Just Paranoid? 04-08-2007 03:02 PM

It snowed here yesterday.

Djoy 04-08-2007 04:10 PM

Woooot... thanks for the info Eroy, I got all the items except the card game one because I'm using a computer that's not mine and it doesn't have firefox. In fact, it is really slow and uses Windows 98 so I don't even really want to mess around and DL it to later delete it. I'll just wait till we get back to São Paulo. Hopefully the event won't go down by the time we get back! Prolly not.

I'm SO impressed with your hearty posts as well. I wonder if they're going to crack down on copy paste posts one day...lol.. it *is* sorta cheating.

It's been a really good weekend for me.. but good Lord, have I eaten a TRUCKLOAD of crap. I'm going to eat lettuce for the rest of the week I swear, to clean out my system. So yesterday we saw the really, really bad movie about this girl who's supposed to be some badass gymnastics rebel. b o r i n g and badly made... nothing compared to Bring it On hehe..

Ok, off to check the Thousand Gardens forum for anything new... can't wait for Ora to hatch man.

poet`s playground 04-08-2007 04:35 PM

  • Thousand gardens?

    I hate Windows Dx.

Eroy 04-09-2007 01:18 AM

djoy~ I know! I can't wait for them to hatch either. Apparently Siz has the pictures... I may have to go over to her house for a sneak preview *ninja*

PM me or Siz your PW and I'll log on and get the casino item for you *nodnod*

Poet ~ A thousand gardens is the RP we all play in. There's a link in my sig.

Sizzla 04-09-2007 02:16 AM

They're purdy!

I'm sorry we're teasing you guys. I can't help it. It's fun to be the DM! XD

I'm about to spam up the thread with wiki posts, so be warned. I want that silver/black tulip dress!!!

heh. I wish I had more monies.

OMG ERIN. I sold a few of my extra donation items on Zantarni, and I now have over 500k there. LOLOLOLOL. things are worth SO much now! they finally made an art shops forum, but there are only a few really good artists. Still, I think I can spend a goodly amount on art. And then i'll buy the donation items so that I don't have to pay RL money for them.

Anyways, they've got a new layout and stuff. I think they're trying to make a comeback. We'll see what happens though. It may be totally bunk.

Djoy 04-09-2007 02:21 AM

How come when I put "Easter" in the card game it tells me I don't have enough gold to do that?

Is the event over?

Or.
I heard it doesn't work with internet explorer. o:

Djoy 04-09-2007 02:25 AM

Definitely the e is NOT capitalized... thank you now I have my chicky, and he shall be my squishy.

Eroy 04-09-2007 02:30 AM

Ya it is case sensitive.

Siz ~ Wow you have an ass load of gold on Zantarni. I have like 2k or something lame. I've got some wings and a bunch of extra x-mas items because i didn't find out what was in the boxes before I bought them

That'd be cool if they made a come back. I've got a bit of money invested in that place.

poet`s playground 04-09-2007 02:37 AM

  • I see. I clicked the link but I didn't know what it was supposed to be x3.

Eroy 04-09-2007 02:41 AM

Djoy 04-09-2007 02:51 AM

Well, I guess I have to lay her first huh? I should probably be writing a creative post right this very moment so when we can lay them I'll be ready 'n' rearin'

I'm also going to start writing about Ora's garden... I want to make a nice garden for her. That sounds like a very fulfulling activity for me and I can be as creative as I want.

Hey Eroy, you said you weren't so keen on your Dreamhealer ability.. are you gonna save up for the potion to change your character's ability? Just wondering... I luckily like mine but I can understand you wanting to be fightier

Djoy 04-09-2007 02:55 AM

Gosh Eory, you've got a lotta gold saved up there.. how many payments have you sent the Thousand Garden's mule??

I can't wait to get some clothes fer me darn avi... poor nekkid girl.

Hey, check it out. Menewsha made it to Wiki... I think when something makes Wiki status it's a symbol that it has really made a mark on this world, or something:

"Menewsha is a Forum based community. It was opened to the public on the 8th of January 2007 by Josh Buckley (Joshimitsu). The website started to grow very fast since it's launch, and gain a lot of publicity. [1] It allows its users to create their own virtual representation of themselves (avatars) Which they can fully customize. They can then purchase items for their avatar using the in-game currency(gold)

The forums are core to menewsha's community. It is powered by phpBB2.xx and it averages thousands of forum posts daily. It encourages intelligent discussion by granting the in-game currency(gold) to members, Dependant on the length of their post. Menewsha do not allow any form of spam on their forums, and they will delete it as soon as it is found. The community is also very close, most people are known. The forums also have a (Private messaging system) where users can send messages to eachother, knowing that it will be private.

To pay for the bills and increase website revenue, Menewsha launched "Monthly Contribution items" on the 3rd of March 2007[2]. These are rare items that are only sold for a month. Their value is guaranteed to rise after the month they are for sale, and they are very popular amongst the community. The monthly contribution items can only be obtained via Paypal These items cost $2.50 USD"

I'll bet this puny entry will get beefier by the day...

Eroy 04-09-2007 02:59 AM

I've only sent one payment so far. If I have enough gold after this post I'll send my second. I keep spending money on art *slaps wrist*

Haha Menewsha is on Wikipedia eh?

I need to start writing about my entry and home too.
I wrote something up the other day.. but I didn't end up liking it very much. So I'm going to start from scratch. I'll probably write it up when I'm bored at work over the next couple of days.

I've already picked out her dwelling though. I think she's going to live in the same place collin is.. with the river and the caves and stuff. It'll be pretty. xD

I like my ability. I wanted to be a fighty mcfighterson.. but I think being able to heal will play nicely in with it *nodnod*

Eroy 04-09-2007 03:01 AM

Yay I have enough for my next installment xD

Bye bye money T_T

Djoy 04-09-2007 11:01 AM

Wooohoo go Eroy.. so sad though, when you're back to single digits.

I've only got 500 something to go, oh boy oh boy oh boy.

So this week's going to be crazy because our first build's this coming weekend. Ahhhh! I hate being stressed out, but sometimes you just can't help it. Then in two weeks I'm going to Santiago for about 10 days, again for my job. Poor Alvaro will be here in S'ao Paulo all by his lonesome.

 hey, they don't have the really weepy icon here.. and they don't have the ROFL either. Boo..

Well.. I guess Mene's got to differ from Gaia on something right?

Djoy 04-09-2007 01:05 PM

Holy shnikeys.. everything looks so different. They're trying to modernize Mene looks like. I like the changes, except what's the mountain got to do with anything? It looks kind of like an advertisement for some kind of resort. But you know.. I'm diggin' it.

It's like.. Mount Newsha. lame. I know.

Sizzla 04-09-2007 01:44 PM

I really like the new layout. it's quite clean...

I think Mike made the new logo for Mene...I like the mountain. I guess it gives us some idea of what the world may look like or something.

Awww, poor lonely Alv! He's gonna paint while you're gone, I'm sure. XP That's so goshdarn cute.

So I prodded Collin on Gaia to post in the RP so we can get your eggs hatched. I know I'm excited.

Are you guys excited?

I should be working. I slacked all last week, so I've gotta get on it. Pardon me if I'm really slow to post! *sweatdrop*

The new underwears in the new shop are SUPER FANTASTIC! I want the chaos bra and underwear...too bad it's 2k as a set. T_T I keep spending my money on art too, and not saving. T_T
Gah.

But the new tophat is uber cute too. You guys should go check them out if you haven't already. Check GDs stickies.

Eroy 04-09-2007 02:38 PM

So it's been confirmed.. it was a turkey that I hit. The guy in my office that goes hunting all the time pulled the feather out of my grill. It's definitely a turkey tail feather.

I like the new layout! It's all blue and neat looking xD

Siz ~ I may or may not be able to come over tonight... I need to do laundry and I have to be at CMH at 7am tomorrow so I'm going to try to go to bed early.

Djoy 04-09-2007 04:37 PM

Blah biddy blah. My avatar's so pink and happy. Maybe I'll send her to the tanning booth again.

Let that BURN turn into SCAR TISSUE and git her back to her original hue. I guess to make her less happy though I'd have to wipe that stupid grin off her face too. I'll never trade in the Dr. Quinn hair do though.... that's a keeper.

Oh Sulley, you manly man. I think they ended up kissing once right? Or maybe they got married.. I don't remember. Like the two dudes from the X-files and how the series was focused around the sexual tension between them while they discovered alien beings.

Hawt.

Here's the braid
http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...quinnbraid.jpg

and here's my MAN SULLEY all dirty and intense.
http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...esko/sully.jpg

He looks kinda sissy in the braid picture actually.

Eroy 04-09-2007 04:47 PM

Haha!

I think they did end up getting married.. it's been a long time since I've seen that show.

Nice hair

Oh djoy.. you're getting so good at looking put picture references! *Imsoproudofyou* T_T T_T

Sizzla 04-09-2007 05:02 PM

Yeah, I love the Dr. Quinn hair as well. XP

He looks much more manly on the horse. *rofl*

Is horseback riding a manly thing?
