lol yeah, It's suprising how many people think that mods have banning power actually, when in fact only Mike and Josh can do that..
But obviously if someone got really abusive towards me and wouldn't back down i'd get them dealt with. |

Well, things look good on the plumbing end! They isolated the leak and it looks like it'll just take going through the sheetrock in the wall rather than tunneling. Our realtor said that would probably only run us less than $700 as opposed to more than a thousand or multiple thousands! *keeps fingers crossed* I know that's a lot of money still, but compared to what it could be, we'd be getting off really light! |
Oh - that's pretty good news - much better than thousands and thousands of dollars - hopefully everything goes smoothly

Good morning purkles - I'm excited - I'm walking at graduation in 2 days . .I still have 2 classes over the summer- but I'm so close to my masters now I can almost feel it!!!
I got my grades for the term - an A+ and A- so my culm GPA is around a 3.86 or so - feels good to be doing so well. :) Sorry - I just had to get it out - 2 days until I walk across the stage. |

Nothing wrong with an associates - only reason I'm able to go for my masters is because I work at Drexel and tuition is free - I still had to get student loans to cover the taxes they take out of my paycheck.
Apparently tuition remission is seen as a pay bonus so it is taxed at something crazy like 25% - which means there is an extra $19,000 in my paycheck being taxed and taken out - it sucks - I'm missing almost $375 a paycheck (I'm bi-weekly). I can't wait to be done school - to have nights back - to have a full paycheck :lol: |
Sia, that's awesome! Was it you who was doing library science? Man, I wish I had done that in hindsight. I would love to be a librarian. Anyhow, congratulations and for having such a high GPA! Especially in grad school, that's not always an easy thing to accomplish!

Yup - I'm the one studying to be a librarian - I actually just finished filling out the civil service application for the Free Library of Philadelphia - they only give the exam once every 4 months - so hopefully I'll be able to take the exam and all before too long.

Librarian is something that appeals to me too, shame the library in my town is so ugly!

Jelly, I'm interested in someday owning a bookstore/coffee shop. Probably second-hand and OOP books since I never see any of those with coffee and snacks being offered.

Yes i've never understood that! I'd love the informal atmophere something like that could create, i'd want mine in an old building and i'd make little reading nooks with squashy chairs(slightly old and battered ones mind!) and lamps and people would be able to help themselves to tea and coffee aslong as they contributed to the kitty every now and again, donated a box of teabags maybe :lol:
I dislike how so many shop settings are so formal. The man who owns the second hand book shop in my town is great fun, i can spend hours in there chatting with him, he's hugely entertaining. He has one of those'thank you for not smoking' signs, he's skillfully blacked out the word NOT and sits beneath it in a very battered old dining chair smoking and making fun of all his old lady customers. I really wanted to rent the flat above his shop, but he lives there himself since he split up from his wife, how inconvenient! :roll: |

Reading nooks and cheap treats and coffee/tea is just the idea! Here in the states, it's all so...fomal, not to mention EXPENSIVE! I'd love to have a place that people could smoke in, but the US is going away from that entirely. There are ways around it, but there is so much red tape and rules and regulations that it wouldn't be worth it. I'd have to get a place with a covered patio that I couple place comfy chairs on for the smokers. |
Ah but..the stairs up to the flat come down into the shop..so i wouldn't have to pay for anything ;)
And i'm sure that Jeff shouldn't smoke in there, especially with all that flammable paper around :shock: but he just doesn't care :lol: |

I'd love to be a bookseller as well. I worked in a bookstore in college and became sort of an assistant to the manager of my department and then I went and worked in a sheet music store and quickly moved into the position of piano/vocal/guitar music buyer and department manager. And I can tell you, I never had so much fun as I did at those two jobs!
I'm hoping to somehow get a part-time bookstore gig at some point when the baby gets a little older. I know I'm a good audiologist, but there's just something so much more appealing to me about working in a bookstore! |
I love the smell of old books too, particularly hard backs. I wonder why i have a preference for older and slighty shabby things to new and shiny?
I like old houses and vintage clothes and jewellery, classic cars and antique furniture..maybe i was born in the wrong era.. |
