Hi all!
I've been away from Menewsha (and most of my sites in general). Just sporadically posting. Been busy playing with the kids and taking a break from the computer overall. I'm going shopping for Easter dinner tomorrow and then I would like to get a pedicure but it will be too late by the time I get out of work. I wish I could change my shift. While I don't like to get up at the butt crack of dawn I would rather work the early shift so I can be done in the afternoon. I'll keep pestering them and hopefully they will give in. |
Salacia - Yes! On toast! :)
Just kidding. I'm not a veteren purkle - just became one here, but it comes from the purkle couch, which is just "purple" with a different letter put in there. Purkles are us - the nice, chatty people in here! And new purkles are always most welcome! EDIT - Oh my gosh, ladies! I wanted to tell you - we're picking Lauren up a potty today! I can't believe this time has already come! But for the last day or so, she's been telling me "poo-poo" every time she goes in her diaper, even if there's not poopoo, but just peepee there. But she's VERY aware of it and wants it gone, so I'm going to try to start seeing if she's ready to potty train. My big girl! ^_^ I hope she trains relatively early, but of course, I'm not going to push her if she's not ready. |
Ohh - that's exciting - good luck with the potty training!

We were supposed to have a mariachi band, but my mother never booked them and since we were married on cinco de mayo there wasn't a mariachi band to be found. That's okay tho cuz I burned some CDs of my fave tejano music and we boogied to that all night (mixed with other music) for a mexican wedding there are some specific traditions. First of all you are supposed to have padrinos and madrinas to help you with certain aspects of the wedding. They're sponsors. For instance, my mom sponsored my dress, my dad and step mom sponsored our hall, my brother and sister in law sponsored the alcohol, and others sponsored the traditions. The traditions we included were the Family Bible which was given to us by Kevin's parents. It symbolizes faith blah blah blah and while neither of us are catholic (or christian) it was important for me to include this since it's traditional. And since most traditions are based on catholic and christian faith I couldn't see excluding one and not the others. We had the mantilla, or shawl, which was handmade and presented by kevin's Aunt Sue. As with the lazzo, it symbolized the joining of 2 into 1. It was laid across our shoulders as Jayson announced what it meant (we had him announce what each tradition meant for those in the crowd that weren't mexican) We also had the lazzo, which is a beaded double looped rosary. It's placed one loop around the bride and one loop around the groom to symbolize their togetherness in faith and becoming 1. And the arras (or coins) 13 of them. They were presented by my cousin Angie and her husband Jeremy. They are given to the groom who in turn gives them to the bride and she gives them back again. It symbolizes the promise that they will take care of each other in their marriage. We used 13 dimes, but sometimes people use specific golden coins imprinted with a christ-like image. Again to reinforce god in the marriage. And of course we had mexican wedding cookies and the dollar dance at our reception. |
In that case give me some purkle with a side of toast! ^^;
I mean... Urmm.... yeah... toast.. Oooooh good luck with the potty training. Don't worry when kids are beginning to say stuff like that they are usually ready for it. *nodnod* I don't have kids, but my little cousins were trained that way. >.< Urm yeah... I'm ranting! :insert gonky face here: I be sowwy! >.< |
Good luck Aliena with the potty training! For some they get the idea quickly, and others, they make progress for a while and then backslide and seem to forget everything they learned and revert to their baby ways, but that's ok too! Each has their own timetable.
Jade and I are both still sick which is a bummer because I hoped to go swimming today. I wonder if we'll feel like this all week, and miss all the fun things we had planned for Spring Break? My mom invited Jade over today too for cookie baking, but decided we better not spread the germs around when she found out how we're doing. |
Thanks for the well wishes with the potty training, guys! Heh heh...for the next few days, I'll probably be checking her diaper quite a bit just to get a better idea of around when she's going. But we did pick up the potty today so I'm excited!
fawN - I hope both you and Jade start to feel better soon! Being sick is no fun especially when you have other plans! Jaz - It was the arras and the lazzo that I remember from her wedding then! And pan de polvos!! Oh man, I could eat those all the time! I was lucky - got to go over to her house the night before her wedding and her mom and grandmother were making them. Lots and lots, so we got to "sample" them. |
That's very interesting Jaz. I always like to hear about different traditions.

and gl potty training btw ^_^ and fawN I hope you and Jade feel better *huggles* right now I"m kinda pissed. I was supposed to go get a pedicure and my nails did but discovered (before I got there luckily) that someone took out $$$ for bills that they weren't scheduled to until next week. Which left no $$$ for my beauty day :( Luckily we're supposed to get our tax return back tomorrow (according to the state website) so I can go then, but I woke up early and everything *grrrrrr* |
Oh jaz! Now I want empanadas and to go get some tequila and do the kumbya at the dollar dance  Actually I have pumpkin. Maybe I'll get motivated and make some. Eh... probably not. I'll just run down to the south side bakery and get some. Mmmm....
I haven't been to a traditional Mexican wedding in years but they are beautiful. I myself don't see marriage in my future but ya never know. ;) I love beauty days. I might schedule a massage for right before we leave to NY. I sooo need one. |
it's snowing at moment here and Cody had a bad cough he went to school but coughed so much that he puked. so was sent home.
but he ok now still coughing tho. |
oh my - I've only ever coughed that much one time that I can remember - glad he's ok now.

sometimes, when my little ones get a real bad cough, I give them peppermints or lemon drops to suck on. The sugar coats their little sore throats and the sucking/swallowing action tends to retard their cough a little. ...and they just dig getting the sweeties. :) hope he feels better soon. |

Yeah, asthma seems to be pretty prevalent down here where I live. I think the doctors kind of overdiagnose asthma. They insinuated mine most likely had it when she actually just had a persistent chest cold. My doc threatened me with a nebulizer if at her followup appointment, she was still coughing a bit. Luckily, that doctor happened to go out of town and I saw a different one for the followup and he said she seemed like she was on the road to recovery. Sure enough, by the following week, she was fine. But I know LOTS of parents down here who have to do the nebulizer thing.
Well, what a fun day today was...got home from music class and opened the fridge to find our temperature control blinking. I tried to reset it but none of the buttons would respond. So I unplugged and plugged the fridge back in and then it wasn't even blinking! It was just off. So tonight's been about filling large coolers with ice and all our fridge and freezer stuff, as well as borrowing the neighbors' deep freeze for our ice cream and meat products. The repairman's coming tomorrow. So I took advantage of having an empty fridge and freezer and did some massive 409-ing! Hey! Why not have some good come out of this situation! The inside is now spotless! |
congrats on the avie item win Aliena those look so cool maybe some day ill be able to afforded them.
he just isn't feeling well i don't know about giving him some thing that don't have a stick attached to it. he hasn't gotten the hang of hard candy like that yet. he seems better but mite not be going to school tomarrow cuz of the cough hmmm that is some thing to look in to. he has to get checked up for kindergarten next year. ill mention it to jim or get myself invited to his check up. he will also be living with his dad's mom during the week so he can attend kindergarten next year and i will see him on the weekends |
Thanks, Buffy! I'm excited to see Chibi's items pixellized. And I'm glad they liked my animal print stuff. With the whole whalecow thing, I couldn't resist doing that!
I hope he feels better, poor guy! :/ |
ooh, I didn't realize he's such a little wee guy. For my little one we went with those lollies with the loop handle. There's even a cough-drop version available... zinc pops I think they're called.
I hope he gets to feeling better soon! |
he is 4 years old not that wee but i don't give him that type of candy in fear he will swallow it wrong and choke besides he love lollys and he likes chewy things too i don't give him medican in pill form ether
ill have to look for those it mite help when he get coughy again |
I hear ya...I try not to give out too many sweeties, but they do get some relief during a cold from the candies. ...and peppermints clear the sinuses! Peppermint is such a wonderful holistic sort of things.
:D I get the zinc pops at the drug store, so you might try looking there. |
Good morning everyone - things sure have been quiet around here. :?
