Both are nice, but some books are really disappointing when they have an open ending and you just need to know more--then in that case it should at least have one more book to it.

Long series are fun to read but when the story ends and the series is finally over it's just like, "what now?"

Eh,I don't really care if it's a series or a stand alone, but most books I read are usualy part of a series, evan if I didn't find out untill I reached the back cover...

I really only like to read series. One book just isn’t enough for me. The shortest series I have is three books. Three large books I should say. My favorite series is the Wheel of Time, which is twelve volumes. It makes me really sad to know the series will never be finished. V.V I also really like being able to read several books in a row. I hate finding a running series and waiting for the next book. I will often reread my series start to finish. : ) So I guess you could say that I am a marathon reader. ^_^

I love stand-alones because there's no point in reading series if the story is dragging. But still, I must admit that I'm a fan of the famous series of JKR.. Harry Potter. So, I guess series are fun too.

Mmm, well, if the series is well-paced, then I'm all for it :3 But if it could be condensed down into one book, then I'll probably lose interest after awhile.

Though some stand alone books I wish were turned into series x3

It depends on the story. My favourite books, the Harry Potter books, are obviously a series.
But my 2nd favourite, Angels and Demons, is not. Not really. The Da Vinci Code might be some kind of sequel, but it's not really a series. Or at leat I would not consider it a series.
Whether I do like a book or I do not depends on the characters and the originality of the story. ^_^

i like stand-alones better because you don't have to spend as much money for the series and because sometime when you read one series book you can't find the others at the store

I prefer stand alone books because no matter how few books the series has, by about the third or fourth book I just get tired of the characters and it becomes more of a chore to read the book.

sometimes i go for standalones,
but a lot of the time i find
series that i really like,
and usually it'll be different
characters per book, but still
include recent characters =]

so i could go either way with
both types.

Doesn't really matter to me, whatever's good really. Series or not. Though, I think I read more series than stand alone.

I always prefer series, because when I love a world and the characters I always want more!! However I tend to stay away from series that overly (think more than 15) The really long ones seem to usually end up grasping for plot and being overly drawn out.

Now I've seen it done right, but usually it's not...

Skrae 11-19-2007 06:19 AM

I much prefer series, although I'm always sad when they end.

There are amazingly good books that can stand alone, but with how fast I can read, it seems as if the book is never long enough.

With a series, it takes me more than two hours to finish the books.

*sigh*

I can't wait for about 5 books to come out right now.

It really depends, I had the problem of dropping the Cirque Du Freak series due to I got rushed/lost on book 7 and isn't that one up to like 15 book!? I tend to like Trilogies they can be long, but not too stretched out(as in broken up further).

Master Wild Mage 11-21-2007 02:31 AM

I don't mind a stand alone book every once and a while though I do get attached to the characters and I want more. If there is a definite ending I'm fine with them.

As far as a series goes, I truly detest the ones that drag on forever and never seem to move on in the plot line. Most times I've fallen in love with the characters so much by the time I realize this that I keep reading them any way.

I truthfully like short series best. (trilogies, quartets and such) As long as they end well I don't mind.

Rensing 11-21-2007 06:27 PM

I really prefer reading series partially because they last longer, can't say I like when they drag on and on for an unnecessary amount of volumes though.

I love stand alones with recurring characters because I feel like I have insight into the storyline, moreso than the next person, because I've read about that character before. :3

And I actually do feel obligated to read them in the order of their release.
