3d Self-Portrait

Wow, that's like as big as something could be before stretching the page. xDD; Lucked out. A project I've been working on in Intro to 3D for the past several weeks, in Maya 8. Weird to think it started off as a cube. xx The textures are taken from photos all over my face (yep, I've got a scar there by my chin) It definitely looks kinda weird, stretched out on the UV map like that. xD For anyone who knows more about 3d than the common user: The bump map was painted separately with pore brushes I made from shots of my face, since just greyscaling the color channel resulted in a kinda leathery and unsatisfactory surface. The eye textures weren't cooperating at the time I rendered this, so that's why it's creepily blank in its eyes, with just a grey material. xD; More shots: Shot 1 Shot 2 Textureless Expressions: Smirk ^ Going to be a blendshape, to animate between the expressions. We're only required to have one expression, so far, so I don't know if I'll end up making any more. Final renders with properly working eyes, hopefully better lighting, and a video of changing expressions coming very soon. This will probably never have hair, unless I add it some semester in the future, once I've learned how to do that. xD; |
This looks cool. I don't think I could learn to do something like this. Good job.

Looks pretty damn good, Matt. One nitpick >.>
Are your ears that small? They're also a bit too low, or perhaps it's just the angle. But something about them in general is a bit wonky ^^ |
omgg the texturing looks nice <3 great job =D
|
Thanks, you three~ ^^ <3
[email protected] I was modeling with a setup of a photo of me head on and one from the side, cross-referencing the two with them lined up as close as possible in 3d space. But the position of the ears was a discrepancy between the two, maybe because I tilted my head a twinge more in one photo than the other or something. I may have compromised between the two photos in the direction of making it a bit smaller, you're right. ^^ Thankfully, once the geometry's all there (and boy was the ear geometry ever a pain to make), enlarging the area's no trouble at all. It could also have to do with the degree of perspective it was rendered in, with it receding to much. I'll double check their size in relation to everything else if I ever go back and work on the model any more for my demo reel, come senior year. As it stands, I'm one of the few people that even managed to get this far in the process, and I'm damn well the only one whose head was this accurate. Some of them are just plain frightening. xD; Thanks for the compliment/critique. x3 <33 |
Wow, I could never do that. xD I've always wanted to try 3D though. It looks really interesting.
It's very realistic. I like how you used a photo of yourself for the texture; very accurate. I agree with Ise; the ears seem a tad small and/or low-set. Besides that, I really like it. Nice work. :] -Moki |
Thanks, Moki~ <3 I'm sure you could do it too, if you went through the same training. x3
So, I left a computer at the Art Building rendering for the night. It's gonna take a long time to render that sucker at 300 dpi tabloid resolution. T-T May not even be done by morning. And it has working (though not very life-filled, due to me not having time to figure out how to get a good glint on them) eyes. No different lighting than the render I have up top, and a white background, so it won't be much of an update when it finishes. The real coolness will be when I get the facial expression animation rendered, over the weekend. x3 ...Along with another gigantic render and another video from before that I also have to render by monday. That on top of tons of seniors rendering their Senior projects in the lab all the time, tying up the computers... D: I shall be the victor! |
It looks really cool so far, the smirk is especially interesting. Definately show us if you make more.
|
Nice...How did you do that? Well i can't really do that so I was just wondering. Well keep up the good work! A little comment from me~~! :D
