LoD (Legend of Dragoon)

Okay here's a rather old game from the Playstation (original). Legend of dragoon was amazing in my opinion, and still to this day is probably my favorite game I've every played. It was my first multi-disc game as well. I still have copies of it that I like to go back and play through again.

I do wish they would remake it because the graphics are not impressive unless it's in a movie scene, but I do admire it's battle system. I haven't seen another like it. There may be one out there, but I haven't heard of it yet. I mean the additions were fun because you don't just sit there, you do something to make them work and you learn better timing with things. The storyline was good too. It kept me interested the whole time and it's amazing how this one small adventure (it seems) spiders off into the one big scenario where EVERYTHING connects. Yeah I know that happens... but I just liked how it happened in this game. It was also odd how I discovered the game. This is the only game I played a demo of first and then bought because of the demo. Until I had the actual disc I would rent the demo from the local video shop all the time and play through it again and again.

Have you played it?

Did you like it?

Who's your favorite character?

Wanna share anything else about it?

-------------------------------------
Yes I have played it.

If I didn't like it I wouldn't be making a fan thread now would I?

I think my favorite character is... Lloyd for his looks, Rose for being dark and just being her. When I was younger I liked Shana because she was pretty... but her character can be pretty lame.

Alrighties then, just start talking about LoD. *huggles her favorite game of all time*

Hungry_Wolf 04-12-2007 10:54 PM

Ah yes, I still have my copy in perfect condition, I loved it. I don't think I've ever beaten it..and I go through it again periodically.

Favorite Character? Lavitz hands down. Gust of Wind Dance was irritating but when you connected it you felt real badass. When he died it honestly was a "NOOOOOO!!" moment, because he was a damn cool character. It was neat that you get to see him later on though.

Geminai 04-12-2007 11:11 PM

Hmm... I like Gust of Wind Dance as Albert more as Llavitz, and the death scene is really sad :( but we move on :D You should attempt to beat it someday before there isn't a system to handle it anymore. I hear that the PS3's don't run old games as well.

Alegretto 04-12-2007 11:36 PM

Seriously great but seriously underrated game. It was one of those gems that had a poor timing release, and as such got a ton of flak for "copying FF VII," which I don't get. I really can't see much resemblance between the two, aside from a few common themes that are found in every RPG under the sun.

As far as characters, I think I enjoyed Albert the best. Lavitz was great too, but I just liked Albert.

Ruby_Dawn 04-12-2007 11:55 PM

LOD is one of my favorite game's,it is one of the few RPG's I got my husband to play lol he loves it. I think the should definitely make a sequel or even re-make the first one :D

Aeris 04-13-2007 01:01 AM

This game is absolutely great; I really like how you had to get involved by actually mashing buttons at the right time.

And that one dragon dude was one of the hardest bosses to this day, for me. (That aren't completely insane to beat, ie Ruby Weapon).

My favorite character is Shana. I hated when she got replaced, but it had to happen. >.>'

Aliena 04-13-2007 02:16 AM

Perhaps the character graphics weren't the most impressive, but the background and scenic graphics - all the towns and whatnot, I thought were absolutely gorgeous! I was actually very impressed with the graphics in that game!

Have you played it?
Yeah - played it about 5 years ago, I want to say.

Did you like it?
I really did! I thought the dialogue was rather cheesy, but I loved the storyline and gameplay, especially the additions.

Who's your favorite character?
Lavitz! *sniffles* I was so sad to see him go and kind of carried a grudge against Albert for a bit, but then he grew on me too. I remember always speaking their lines aloud in battle. Especially Miranda - didn't she have one that was like, "God, save us!" or something like that?

Wanna share anything else about it?
I just thought it was a fun game. Underrated and enjoyable!

Geminai 04-13-2007 02:34 AM

Ah yes... Miranda's infamous "God save us! GATES OF HEAVEN!" *snicker* I prefer Rose's Demon's Gate :3 It was awkward that it split down her crotch though >_>

*ahem* ANYWAYS! It seems a lot of people like Llavitz so far o.o; That surprises me, just because in the past not many seemed to be too fond of him.

Jonath Nell 04-13-2007 04:18 AM

Hahahaha!
I love this game.
One of my all time favorights, I love the battle system, I loved the story, and I loved the graphics when I first got it. If I ever heard that they were going to make a sequel or remake I would buy it in a heartbeat.
Love It!

Have you played it?
Yeah, I have played it numerous times, and I beat it at least twice.

Did you like it?
I loved the game!

Who's your favorite character?
Well, Loyde is my favoright, I mean he is one of those cool bad guys that you just can't help but love... and even now... all my characters that I make for stories have silverish hair because of him... but as far as favoright playable characters I would say it is a toss up between Herchel, Congal, and Muru.

Wanna share anything else about it?
I really wish they would make another game... what would be really could would be a prequel, where you could play through the events of the Dragoon war.

Geminai 04-13-2007 10:51 AM

Yeah, many people liked the idea of a prequel in the past years. I think that would make a good game. I mean we sort of know how it would turn out, but they could still think of something to make it interesting.

GainaSpirit 04-13-2007 12:50 PM

Have you played it? Oh, yes ^^ What a great game !

Did you like it? defenitly ^^ The game system for the combat was awesome. I liked most of the characters and I like that interaction in the combat. It felt so much more satisfying to manage a combo with a character ^^ I loved the one of Lavitz/Albert ! ^^ Hehe 'Gust of wind dance' was my fav ! The rhythme was kinda hard to get but I loved do it ^^ And they looked so good doing it !

Who's your favorite character? Rose. I completly loved that characters. It was the same for Lavitz and I was happy that his replacement was great too ^^
They were both always in my groups >.< so the others characters sucked a lot O.o Especially that white dragoon girl. She was useless for me anyway.
I couldn't seperate from the Darkness and the Wind ^^

Wanna share anything else about it? I was a cool game and I really enjoyed it ^^ It's been a while now since I really enjoyed any RPG... they began to basic and non-inovating

Well yeah, you would know what happened in the last fight, but otherwise, there is a lot of room for story between the begining and the end, and consdiering the way that everything ended up at the end of the first war, they could make a really good story buy building up the character's before what ultimatly happens to them.

jazzkitteh 04-13-2007 09:03 PM

This was the best game i EVER played. And even though my last disk of the 4 never would play I loved all 47 hours i spent on my couch obsessed with it! My aunt and her lame ass bf kept bashing it saying it wasnt as good as FF7 and 8 but i thought it was the best game ever xD And still do.

Geminai 04-13-2007 11:24 PM

GainaSpirit: We tend to like having the same party it seems. My power team was always Albert and Rose (with the mandatory Dart) and I agree that Shana is useless :P I just liked her because she was pretty when I first started playing the game, on a demo disc which took place in the prairie just after escaping Hellena Prison, and went up to the first time you enter Bale. All of the dragoon transformations for Dart, Shana, and Llavitz were on the demo. ^^; I didn't actually get the game until a year after the demo disc I think, because I never noticed it in stores. *huggles her favorite game in the world*

Jonath Neil: True true, they could get a very good storyline going, and so much action would be taking place... plus there is some area to build up the original conspiracies. Plus just imagine it... a time where rose wasn't bitter o.o;

And Micheal! You'd get to use her Vassal dragon!

jazzkitteh: So if the last disc didn't work you didn't beat it? Oh no! Well copies are hard to find nowadays, but if you can try to get your hands on a copy of at least the final disc. You must defeat it!
And I agree that the game is better than FFVII and FFVIII. Though both were good games (with SLIGHT simularities in some stuff), Dragoon was really the best for me.

Jonath Nell 04-14-2007 12:42 AM

Yeah, That would be so cool to see. I would love to hear all of the stories for all of the characters, how they became Dragoons, and also, had a lot of Dragon partners as well... it would be really cool if you could use them in battle too, like a summan or something...

I don't know there are just so many things that they could do with it. I am suprise that they have not made it yet... I mean it seems to me like it would be a prime game to make a sequal or prequal for. It has so much to offer.

Geminai 04-14-2007 01:06 AM

Yeah I find it odd that they didn't do that... but nowadays would be an odd time to suddenly whip out the prequel (or sequel) when the original has been out for what... almost 10 years? I can't remember what year it came out but I think it was 98.

Rainbow Carrot 04-14-2007 01:15 AM

Yes, that game was a lot of fun. It took me a while to figure out the battle system though. xD I'm slow like that. My favourite character was probably Albert or Rose. It was one of the games I played a few times, with my friend and alone. One time I took it to my cousin's once and forgot my memory card. It took me five hours to beat the first disc, but then my cousin accidentally unplugged it on me. D: I was a sad button.

Recently I found and bought another game a lot like it(battle system). It's called Magna Carta. I don't remember if it's made by the same people of not, but the battle system is alike in the sense that you have to mash the button at a certain time, only it goes around a dial instead and you have to press x or o. I don't want to get too far off and get so far off topic I get into trouble, but I thought I should mention it. ^^, I recommend it if you likes LoD. :3

Jonath Nell 04-14-2007 03:42 AM

Well, you know there are a lot of old games from like the nentendo and other systems like that that would get a new game much later on, and even a remake sometimes...

I son't know... maybe someday some young game designer will come along and build off from where LoD left off, or make prequal to it... of course they will have to get the rights to make it... but really... I am very suprised that it is taking so long.

Vince 04-14-2007 04:15 AM

Have you played it?
Yes, I still have it. :D
Did you like it?
No, I loved it!
Who's your favorite character?
Rose, hands down. Demon's Dance was so awesome. @[email protected];
Wanna share anything else about it?
The only thing I didn't like about this game, was timing the attacks with the box thinger. Other than that, it was awesomeness.

Albert and Rose are definitely the better characters :3 And the memory card dillema sounds like it was tough to go through :(
As for Magna Carta, I don't think I've heard of it... But maybe I'll do some research on it.

Nell: I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens. Hopefully we all get lucky some day and see a new Legend of Dragoon on store shelves ^_^

Vince: Oh you didn't like the counter attack sequence? I loved it! but maybe that's because I got good with patterns. I got to a point where I could do Crush Dance and Gust of Wind Dance with my eyes closed XD though then the counter box would throw me off sometimes. One thing that helped me is I didn't really look at the box after awhile, but listened to timing, and that would also warn me more of the counter box and how to use it. I've noticed that many games with button timing, I use my ears more than my eyes. Maybe it has to do with me being a percussionist. Either way, people should try and see if they can use another sense for games rather than sight XD It's fun doing that.

As for Demon's Dance... I only learned how to get final additions a few years ago when I made a friend borrow one of my copies (I then had him keep it since I have others :)) and he brought the final additions to my attention, because he is a much better gamer than me. I think Blazing Dynamo or Demon's Dance was my first Final Addition I ever got. I always wondered why that last one wouldn't come for Dart, Albert, and Rose. I also finally took time to get all of my characters to their top Dragoon forms in the past couple of years when I revisited the game. I had never been patient enough to before.
I was playing it again last summer, busting through trying to do the star dust quest for once... and then my playstation stopped reading that part of the disc I was on... and it wasn't one of those times you could just toss in another disc to load through it. I had to take it to a friend's house. My playstation is starting to reject 1st generation games :(

Rainbow Carrot 04-14-2007 07:06 PM

@Geminai: :3 Yeah, they are. One thing about Albert though it that one of his more difficult abilities makes it look like he'd pole dancing. xD (to me at least).

And the MC absence was actually pretty fun. I was just bummed about the game being unplugged, especially since I'd gone through the first disc without saving or dying. >w<

As for MC, you should. :3

Zurie 04-15-2007 03:58 AM

  • I have it, haven't beaten it, and don't remember much about it, but I do know that I like the girlie with the mallet. xD
Her character design is adorable, plus anyone with a giant hammer is awesome in my book.

Oh, and I remember hating having Rose in my party because her trigger attacks or whatever went too fast for me to react for the chain and whatnot.

Man, I think I'll hafta pick that one up again soon.

Aliena 04-15-2007 07:09 AM

Zurie - Meru! I loved her character design too, though I didn't care for her actual character as much.

Jonath Nell 04-16-2007 12:48 AM

Geminai- Yeah, I have not given up hope yet. I can just keep looking forward to it. Hopefully they just don't screw it up though. I would not enjoy that...

Geminai 04-18-2007 06:11 PM

(sorry that i wasn't online to respond for a few days, my laptop had to be serviced ^^; I'm back now though)

Rainbow: Oh did you have to tell me that? I know you are right... now that I think of it I will now always think of him pole dancing during the attack >_< and I liked that attack...

and yeah, I'll be looking into MC then ^_^

Zurie: Ah who CAN'T like Meru? Big-ass hammer + happy go lucky girl = fun fun fun! Meru is one of the best characters in the game. Plus her transformation is cool ^_^ I like her dragoon addition where if you complete it she dives down rolling at her enemy and lands on them with the hammer. She always had so much fun with that hammer. Some of her later normal additions get nutty though.

Rose is difficult with timing... especially if you are trying to do hard blade. That one is the worst for me. her final addition isn't that bad. Rose only has 4 additions though so I guess they're making up for the lack of them with the difficulty.

I really hope you do pick it up again soon :) I should as well, but I'll probably wait for the summer.

Neil: I'll always be watching for it, but I bet if it does come out, it will be when we least expect it. Let's just hope that it's worth the wait. The original was 4 years in the making if I remember, so for all we know they have been developing the game all this time and just are trying to keep up with the console upgrades now.
