Growing power of 3D

[ This topic is partly about about This Video ]

Pretty amazing, huh? That kind of stuff has some bigtime applications, if it's used right.

Just think- the way they correspond the vertices of all the faces with one-another and with the automatically detected facial features in photos, they could map that into some kind of variable surface in reality that deformed and retextured itself on the fly to turn its appearance into that of anyone, just based on a photo... So yeah, if they invent anything like that within my lifetime, let this thread show that I called it. D;

So, this is a discussion on how powerful 3D art is getting as a medium for recreating the world around us believably, and how it's getting easier every day. Post any examples you have to that end, or just discuss what you think about it.

*nods* We are getting really advanced in 3D animation and such... I'm a digital artist myself. I've been using DAZ Studio for almost 3 years now, and their newest model V4 is incredibly realistic if you use the right skin,eye, and hair maps. I haven't quite mastered realism myself but it's something I have been working hard towards for a good year now. I dream of someday being as good as the people at Sony and Square Enix...

Hellzyeah, that's awesome Murchu. XD I like your idea. I wouldn't be surprised if that happened, either.

Shit, my 3-D Projest is due next Friday.

Wow, that is amazing. *___* I knew they were capable of stuff like this, since I know it's what they do for newer video/computer games (WWE actually has a feature on one of their DVDs showing one of their wrestlers being morphed for one of their games, as well as wearing a green suit so they could get more realistic movement for moves) but I'd never seen how the mapping process actually works.

Wow. The Audrey Hepburn picture particularly stuns me. It looked like it was actual footage, almost. If I didn't know it was CG I might not have noticed.
