I really enjoyed WoW. I just didn't have the time to keep playing, otherwise I'd still play it. The only time I saw an overflow of n00bishness was when they were opening new servers or when they were upgrading servers and constantly downing stuff.
I have a lot of good friends who play and a lot of their friends always helped me out. @[email protected]; I liked the game, I just felt like it took forever to get anywhere--but it was an obsession. |
I don't usually play games like WoW anymore because of other players.
When my friend first showed me the game, I was like "aw, how cute!". Then she told me how much it costs and I was like, "bump that mess, I'll stick with MUDs!" |

I still don't get where all this talk is coming from about there being no storyline and it's just a grind. The main means of leveling is questing -- and you may not start out doing some big important quest chain, but trust me there are plenty. People are too quick to judge something without really experiencing it fully. |

It's all fine and dandy that the game didn't appeal to you, but obviously it's appealing a to decent crowd. I'm not immature, I'm not addicted and I do have fun playing the game. I just don't understand how people keep blasting it like they're the ultimate ruler on all games. That's fine you don't like it, but I probably don't like games you play, but I don't go around bashing it because I know that different people are interested in different things. I found one of the best ways to remove some of the immature players is to get into a good guild, I'm apart of one run by a husband and wife who keep the guild chat clean and family friendly as their children play as well as some other members of the family. And, just like bliss said, there are some pretty good storylines attached to some quests. I'm itching to finish one up right now that has a really sad plotline in it involving a small child and the death of her father. There are some good stuff in there. |

After Neverwinter Nights, my very first (and still most loved) MMORPG, I decided to give WoW a try. Sure, most of the community is immature as they tend to be children / or perhaps... foolish elders? Anyway, I have played both sides and they are both balanced- good and bad. With the new expansion pack, the Burning Crusade, more of the little kiddies are running to the Horde to play Blood Elves, so yeah. :3 I myself play on a roleplay server... and I do wish people would actually know what 'roleplay' means.
Other than that, I do enjoy WoW. It can be a grind fest sometimes, but with friends and awesome guild mates, the game is fun.<3 I'll always play on RP servers, since the people there just make the game ten times more interesting. |

I'm sorry you're having a bad experience with it now! I ended up not liking my Horde characters for exactly the same reason-- many of the Horde players are pretty immature. Maybe I just got the wrong servers, though.
@ Pink-- I kept healing those poor hurt draenei, too! I tried healing them with the priest spell, but they just sat there and moaned. :D |
I've got a lot of pressure from random friends to join WoW. But I'm kind of afraid of what might happen.
I have a full time job and a son, and a hobby translating Trinity Blood novels/manga into English, which takes a LOT of my free time. The rest of my time is wast- uh, spent on sites like this. I know from my general gaming experience that I'm the type of player to Farm and 'grind' for levels/items/gold... and I know from experience watching OTHER people play WoW that if I did my usual gaming trends on that game - I would have no time for anything else. I'm desperately afraid I'd get sucked in, and not get anything done that I need/want to get done IRL. I'm not worried about the monthly fee - I mean, I spend HOW much monthly on DI's on multiple sites? Yeah. I just don't know if it's a good idea for me to join up with the WoW crowd. Even if it does mean continually turning down my friends. My ex has even offered to pay for the first three months for me if I'd just give it a try. *sigh* I'm just a big chikin'. |
I never thought I'd play WoW, I was always sort of wary that I'd get sucked in, and passed it off as "overrated". But recently a friend of mine convinced me to buy it, and I have to say I'm enjoying it! There aren't many idiots on the server I play on, which is lucky.
I usually play as Alliance, mainly because I just don't like the look of the Horde races... They're sort of ugly, although I suppose that's the point. Plus the Horde lands are scary and kind of depressing. I'm not addicted to WoW, I can go for days without playing it, but it is a pretty good game. I just like exploring all the different places (I'm a mage, so I know if I get out into the middle of nowhere I can just teleport to somewhere friendlier). |
I like my soul; therefor I stay away from WoW. And because it costs to play.

WoW never really appealed to me, frankly because MMORPGs are just not my thing. I gave FFXI a chance but in the end, I hated the type-casting the game put me though. People would scream at me in all caps "TECT ME, DAMN YOU!" or "REFRESH! REFRESH! REFRESH!!!" Just because I played a white or red mage does not mean that I wanted to just do those type of jobs. Hell, I wanted to play a Red Mage so I could just do whatever I wanted to do! People hated my class until I reached a certain level. >>; You get my drift? People who play MMORPGs longer than you think they freaking know everything, they want to boss you around - even if you don't have a single item they want the drops because they "helped you level" or whatever... |
Best reason Ive ever heard to stay away from it: It kills people.
The worst story I ever heard about WoW is that a couple went shopping, and left their baby back home(who does that anyway?). But they were so addicted that they decided going to an internet cafe. They came home late and found their baby dead. Ive heard from several people that I know that they stopped playing because its way too addicting. |
I've never liked WoW or other games of that nature and the thing that reinforced my opinion was the South Park episode, "Make love, not Warcraft" XD
It's not always the case but holy crap it was accurate at times. XD If you've seen the episode remember the player who was unbeatable and on the other end was this fat, old, balding at the top with long hair dude. HE EXISTS! A bunch of friends and I personally know someone who looks and acts just like him and it's scary ladies and gents. Only thing not added was the dude we knew turned out to be a pedo so we made quick to ignore him. ><; I know there are nice people who play the game but too many are, sorry to say bluntly, losers who need to move out of their parent's house. Felt like John McClane in Die Hard 4 But yeah...The only thing I pay for game wise is Xbox live. |
Oh, don't forget the erping! My servers... known for that. Blackwater raiders is over run with erp guilds (Erotic Roleplay) They all huddle in goldshire and dance in the inn to attract prepubescent players to get it on digitally.
It's a little creepy if you ask me. Whenever you walk into the inn to your left you see 2 naked draenei dancing. Look to the right an on the tables are a nude night elf and draenei, and all their friends are sitting in the seat. Either naked or in a dress... so they can get naked faster. But apparently it's not like that on all the servers... we were just lucky I guess.... psh, lucky! x3 But I could never leave, I love my friends on there too much to move characters. So my home shall forever be in BWR, where the raiding blows and the erping flows. |
I played WoW for about three months and didn't have nearly as much trouble as you did with spam and the like. But maybe that's because I was Alliance.
Actually, not that I think about it, I had a second character that was Horde and it wasn't bad either. Maybe it was just your server? I can't remember which I was on. Anyway, I quit the game because it was boring. I've played tons of MMO's before and Warcraft simply has nothing new to bring to the table. It's bigger, pretty, and better than the other MMO's, but it's not innovative at all. Every feature of the game, I can point to another game where I saw it first. Sometimes years in advance. But to each their own. *shrug* |
I don't know much about WoW in-game, and as I'm not planning to start, never will. However, I suppose I can add a reason. It's far too addicting, and not only would it ruin a person's outside-internet social life or career or grades.. it's killed. A person in Japan, for instance, died playing WoW at an internet cafe. In China, I believe, a person- who was considered one of the better players, an elite? - died shortly after finishing some quest or defeating some monster over a period of 2 or 3 days. :/ |
I have to say I've been very tempted to play, though.
I like RPG games, I like being in a 'group' of people online who share similar interests, and I like dressing my characters in the latest pixels. I have a lot of people I know who I could play with, so I'd have an instant 'in' on a group.... I just don't want to give up all the other things I do in a day to make the game worthwhile. |
I play WoW and I think it's great. And you know what? Horde isn't a bunch of people under 15. :angry: Alliance are mostly 12-14 year olds on my server. You're server, maybe Horde is but Sentinels isn't. You don't have the right to go ahead and judge like that. Horde isn't just 15 year olds. If you haven't noticed, they released a new cinematic for lvl 78s. It's on a chain link quest though, good luck finding it in Northrend.

That's basically my experience with FLYFF.
Actually......it's the exact same experience. .-. I had someone ask me 12 times in a row if I would start a party with them so I could plvl them. That is one thing people never understand in MMO's, that NO MEANS NO. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MEANS NOOOOOOOOOOOOO. NOOOOOOOOOOOOT, "Sure, ask me a dozen more times and I'll say yes!" People just always seem to be general asshats on whatever MMO I play. I played the free 10 day trial, and although I did like WOW, I couldn't see the point in paying $15 a month for something I equally enjoyed (At the time) for free. I have found a very nice WOW clone - NeoSteam. I liked it, but I'm totally hooked on LunaOnline. |
Hmm...I honestly think that a lot of your points depend on which realm you're on. On my realm (Lothar) I really haven't experienced much n00bishness, although (of course) there's always going to be a little bit. People are generally pretty nice and helpful.
As for the farming bit...eh, I don't really think that's true. I mean...if you're referring to most of the quests being "Go kill x number of x enemy" then, yeah, but I mean...what else would they have you do? I think that there are enough different types of quests and areas to make it interesting. WoW isn't my life, it's just something that I enjoy. If you don't take it too seriously it can stay fun. |
