And, don't get confused. XD I was just hoping you didn't take offense assuming I was making insinuations is all. But it seems that wasn't the case.

I can't take the all credit for the story ideas really. XD I was involved in creating them and I was a primary instigator in developing them, but virtually all of these were a collaboration between myself and at least one but more often two or more other people. Some were for short-lived RPs, but most were just random stories that we made up to go with characters we created. Someone would make a character, then the next person would make theirs, and then we'd start making up a world and plot to go with it.

The only one that I can say is truly mine (at least of the ones I mentioned) is the ghost story with the poor coma dude. XD And that one is underdeveloped and very depressing. I did ask to make sure if I had permission to develop these on my own though, and really my friends seem more than happy with that and none have expressed interest in writing their own versions.

That being said, maybe you can understand why we picked zombies. XD All of these stories started out being developed in high school and our particular crowd was big on horror movies and zombies (and survival horror games). So two of my friends had talked for a while and made brothers that fight zombies, but there was no plot to it aside from one of them being infected. The whole thing is sort of dark humor since we each picked ridiculous weapons for our characters to fight zombies with, but it's still pretty gritty and serious. My character is the female that joins the crew named Hamlin who wields an over-sized croquet mallet. Ransom is the older brother that's infected and uses a giant chainsaw. Xeni is the little brother who uses an acid gun, lol. [Hamlin] [Ransom] [Xeni]

And I know what you mean about the "Joker" bit. XD In the story he would be called the "Black Joker" so I think there's a bit less confusion there. Plus he looks like this: [Joker Brody]

And just for giggles in case you're interested, the bandit cousins are these guys: [Kithley] & [Raster] Kithley is the one I created and Raster was made by my friend. There are other characters involved too, but mostly just those guys.

Rylynne 05-24-2009 01:51 PM

No offense was taken at all. ^^;; I apologize though, if what I said insinuated that I was offended. :x That's bad writing on my part. xDD;;

And that sounds fun. =O I have to admit that I've never written or thought up story ideas with other people, primarily because I'm a little embarrassed about things. ^^;; I've also never joined an RP before, since I never had enough time to actually join one with other people. xDD;; It must be nice to write with other people though~ :3 <3<3

And ohh, I see, I see. =O Lolz, cool then. =P Who drew the artsies though? =O I swear, your Hamlin art looks very like the style of someone I've seen before. o_O;; Definitely sure it's like official Mene art. xDD;;

And yay for more character art! :> I love looking at art, especially artsies of people's characters. :3 I recognize Kithley though! =O Wasn't he the guy you dressed up as before? xDD;; Your avatar dressed up like him, I mean. =P

Ferra 05-24-2009 05:17 PM

No no, I wasn't offended. XD It was just a misunderstanding.

In truth, most of my RP characters have faded from existence. I don't RP as much as I used to and most of the characters I made early on only exist in old text files on my computer. It's really only the characters that I made with my friends that have survived and developed and I still have interest in them, there there are a few old things I may want to completely overhaul and reuse someday. (The bandit story came from one of them, but all the old characters were dumped. XD)

You shouldn't be embarrassed when it comes to RPing. :3 I'm the type who often gets embarrassed when I share my writing, even with friends, but RPing feels different for some reason. Probably because it's collaborative and we tend to be very casual about it, so I don't feel pressured (although I do always try to write well).

I have art from a ton of people. XD; I can't draw, so I have to commission other people to draw for me. You're right that the first one was drawn by Yanyan13, one of our artists/admins here. (I actually ruined that picture by editing since I was trying out some new colors.. shhhh!) The other ones were drawn by my friends since most of my friends are artists, so they usually draw their own characters.

The Raster & Kithley pics are both commissions I bought though. And LOL, I fear I flaunt my OCs more than I realize. *embarrassed*

But how about you? Here I've been yammering on but I don't know what your story is about. :o

Rylynne 05-25-2009 03:35 AM

Then okies then. ^^;; <3<3

And ohh, I see. =O You know, from what you've been saying, I can tell that you've been in a lot of RP's before. xDD;; Cool. =P <3<3
Speaking of text files though, I remember when I had a master list of story ideas I wanted to use, but when my old computer needed to be reformatted, the people fixing it forgot to transfer that file out of the computer, and therefore it got lost. ;_; I was so depressed about that, actually. ^^;;

And yeah, I guess I shouldn't. ^^;; It's a natural feeling for me though, especially since I sometimes find it harder to separate myself from my work compared to other people, so, I'd rather work on my confidence first before going into RP. xDD;; My writing classes have helped immensely though, so at least I'm progressing? ^^;;

And there! I knew it! xDD;; Yanyan was my guess, actually, since I was sure that it wasn't by Omi, but since I didn't have a reference of his drawing style, I couldn't be 100% sure about that. xDD;; And yeah, being an artist does help when making characters, I guess, since it's easier to visualize them for yourself. ^^;;
Looking at your artsies though, I swear, I need to start making proper references for my characters. @[email protected];; </3

And no you don't! =O If anything, you should be proud of them, I believe. =P <3<3

And oh! Don't worry about it. =P I love listening to other people's ideas and stories, so it's no trouble. ^^;;
As for me... well, I haven't worked out enough kinks for the beginning yet to make a good summary. Since what I have mostly are the middle and the end with all the plot twists and stuff, I don't think I can give a good summary without giving away the surprises meant to be in it. xDD;;

But hmm... let's just say for now that there are two races at war with each other, with one race oppressing the other. In the oppressed side, there's this small faction that's slowly building up in order to overthrow the other race. I call them the Resistance for now (but since that's so cliche I plan on changing that when I can think of a better name xDD). Said small faction is divided into smaller groups of around 5 or so in order to do various tasks for the faction, like gathering more supporters, raiding enemy bases, gathering information, and etc.

My story sort of centers on one of these small groups, and how they meet with one girl from the other side. They try to convert her to their side, sort of, while she's left confused about which side she's on (I plan on adding a little something like Stockholm Syndrome or something xDD).
What the small group doesn't know though is that they're actually being manipulated for a grander scheme of things to come, since the overthrowing of the other race isn't the real purpose of the wars after all.

... yeah, it's so vague and fugleh. D: Still working on the kinks, as I've said. xDD;; The main character is the girl, btw, but I'm thinking about changing the story to some else's perspective, so that maybe it'll put a twist to the whole story itself. 8DD;;

*hides in her hole*
>.>;;

Ferra 05-25-2009 05:02 AM

When I was more active, maybe you could say I was in "a lot" of RPs, but given the span of time since I first started (gosh, almost 6 years ago now?) I haven't actually participated in all that many. At least not many that survived longer than a few weeks.

I'm sorry you lost your old text files. D: As embarrassing as it can be to find old writing, I still like to hold onto mine. I have several backups of my files just in case.

That's good to hear you're progressing! You naturally should by writing more. XD That's actually why I enjoyed RPing so much since I don't usually have the time/patience to write large stories, so RPs gave me a convenient medium to practice writing.

I'm so lazy when it comes to describing my characters that having picture references really help. XD I usually find some references that look similar and sketch out a really bad drawing and ask a friend if they can make a better reference for me, then gather art.

And no worries, as you could tell with most of my story ideas, I don't have a full idea formed for them either. That idea sounds very interesting! Racial tension is right up my alley. XD; I don't know why, but I find it fascinating. (In a fantasy setting at least, in RL it really horrifies me.)

The general idea springs to mind Fire Emblem, the 10th game specifically, in that vein of politics and various groups fighting against each other only to find that they've actually been pawns. Not to meaning that in a negative way since Fire Emblem is one of my favorite game series. <3

Do you have any idea what might be the larger goal? I'm also curious who's perspective you would switch it to besides the "main" female.

Rylynne 05-25-2009 01:24 PM

Wow, you've been in RP for six years?! =O That's even longer than my avatar community life, lolz. xDD;; And awws, sad that some of your RP's only lasted a few weeks. :< It's always sad for me to see good RP's die, since while I never participated in any, I've read a lot of lovely ones since I started participating on avatar sites. xDD;; <3<3

And yeah, it is sad. ;_; And OMG! It is embarrassing, definitely. @[email protected];; I can still remember my first ever "epic" story. While the file itself is gone, I can't help but cringe every time I remember it. It was THAT gawd awful. x_x;; </3

And hmm, that's a good point you're raising. =O I've been thinking about RP-ing for a long time, actually, as I think I've mentioned. ^^;; I was even supposed to try out an RP with Seisei (Seito xDD) over here, but that never worked out, so, ah wells. ^^;; Maybe in the future~

And oh! I have similar references for now of my characters as well. 8DD;; I search through picture sites and just look for people who surprisingly look like my characters for future references. ^^;; It's all in my other computer though, so, yeah. 8DD;;

And yeah, racial tension fascinates me as well! xDD;; I dunno why though, just like you. ^^;;

And really? =O I've only seen and watched my brother play the Fire Emblem series, so I'm not familiar with them. ^^;; Although, reading back on my description, it sounds far more political than I think it really is. 8DD;; But yeah, since politics also fascinates me (despite my love-hate relationship with it), it plays a major role one way or another. ^^;;
There's also a little bit of focus on the importance of time and time travel (in the most basic sense of the term). I guess "manipulation" is one of the key concepts I'll be integrating. xDD;;

As for the larger goal? =O Since this story is very much character-driven, my larger goal is to make sure that every main character is fleshed out, because I absolutely hate stories that have characters act in one manner simply to push the plot forward, even though it may or may not be realistic. :x I want them to feel alive and not just be some cardboard cut-out. ^^;;
... unless you're talking about the larger goal of the story? xDD;;

And hmm, if ever I do switch POV's, it'll probably be to the second main female, who's more involved in the grander scheme of things from the beginning, rather than the main female character who gets dragged in but ends up heavily involved in the later parts of the story. ^^;; It'll make for a more omnipresent-ish POV, definitely, but I'm not so sure if I would want readers to know as much as she knows, hence why I haven't reached a conclusion as to whose POV I'll be using in the end. xDD;;

... sorry for my long paragraphs, btw. D: </3

Ferra 05-25-2009 05:35 PM

Well I first started RPing in my freshman year of high school, so I was 14 and I'm 20 now. XD; It originally started with my friends passing a notebook back and forth in class where we added stuff on, but my RPing online began on Gaia when we all joined back in 2003 so we could RP together. That didn't last all that long though, but I moved over to RPing on Proboards for a while and spent time on Gaia doing other things. When they released Guilds was when I came back to RP there for a while.

The first story that I remember making was back in 4th grade. XD It was a rip-off of Pokemon and Digimon since I think they just came out at the time about some kids that went to a magic world and got monsters, etc. Lol, it was terrible. I found my old writing from it and destroyed it. I probably shouldn't have, but I really hated it, even at the time, and I was so embarrassed since my mom showed it to my relatives.

Fire Emblem (9 & 10 specifically) isn't political in the sense of today's politics, but it does deal with racial tensions between the humans and beast people, etc. and have factions of rebels and wars, etc.

*will add more later*

Rylynne 05-26-2009 04:50 AM

Really? =O Interesting RP story then. xDD;; I used to pass around a notebook with my classmates as well, but it wasn't for RP-ing and just because we were bored and wanted to chat with each other. 8DD;; We'd even draw little doodles and stuff, but hmm, maybe we should have tried RP-ing instead of random chatter. xDD;;

And ohh, lolz. xDD;; I think we all made a person/monster story based on Pokemon and Digimon at least once. xDD;; I remember I did. Heck, I even made something called the Squirtle Squad, which I will not elaborate on to save my sanity. ^^;;
My very first story though was a mix of all the princess cliches rolled into one horrible fantasy story. D: Heck, my main dude even looked exactly like Rudy from Wild Arms 1 (which is what my brother and I were playing at the time). >.>;; Luckily, my parents never showed it around, else I think I would have died of humiliation. @[email protected];;

And really? =O Cool then. :> My two races aren't exactly beasts though. =O They're both human-looking, with the difference being strange hair and eye colors for one race, with the other race just more like us normal people here. ^^;; One small part of my story actually involves the misunderstandings between the two races, when the "normal" race manages to discover the power of dye (lulz xDD) to trick the other race.

And lolz, now I'm really sorry for making my posts long. D:
Feel free to add later then. ^^;;

Ferra 05-26-2009 05:07 AM

Well it wasn't full-on RPing, it was mostly random junk and doodles, but at some point we did have a vague story for it.

Some of my other stories from when I was young are also equally embarrassing. XD I know I had one with dragons as the main characters, but I don't really remember what it was about. It wasn't really until late middle school that I developed something that I felt was worth keeping. That eventually evolved into the story with the bandit cousins, although the two stories are nothing alike. The original was very cliche with some girl having to gather crystals from across a fantasy world (or something like that) but the world itself and the species within it have stayed with me. I still really like one of the characters. XD She's actually the first character I named Ferra.

Ah, I see. :3 That's interesting! And no worries about making them long, I also type a lot. I was going to type more for my first post but I had to run since my friend came by to pick me up for our trip to the zoo.

Reply to the end of earlier post:

I hate when people make characters act in a certain way where it's an obvious plot device. D: I generally have my characters act however I think they would act and that's how I develop a plot, rather than just think "you know what would be cool, I should make them do this". Of course I do create situations, but I try to explore how the characters would react in a way that's natural.

Again, that's part of why I like RPing. I plan some things ahead, both for my own character and as a group, but the ideas are usually quite vague and things develop solely on how characters react to what the other character(s) throw at them.

And that sounds interesting. I rarely ever write in the first person, but I do favor a specific character's thoughts and follow them closely, though that occasionally switches throughout the story depending on what it is. That's the biggest issue I think I'll have trying to bring my scattered ideas together since I often explore development with various characters, so I'd probably need to rewrite it so things seem more cohesive.

Rylynne 05-26-2009 05:36 AM

That's still very interesting though. =P <3<3

And oohh, cool then. :>
You have a character named Ferra though? =O That's awesome. =P I also have a character named Rylynne, but it's only her second name. xDD;; At least, it currently is her second name, since I'm not sure if I wanna keep it or not. ^^;;

And oohh, how was your trip to the zoo? :> I haven't been to one in ages, now that I think about it. xDD;;

---

And yes, exactly my sentiments. =O Characters are more than just plot devices, and to me, making your characters act a certain way just to get to this point in the pot just shows how under-developed your characters actually are, because you don't know how your character really would act under such situations. @[email protected];; </3

And hmm, I don't think I'll be writing in first-person POV though, as much as I want to undertake the challenge. ^^;; I'm like you, in that I'll be writing based on a specific character's thoughts. =O Kinda like Harry Potter, I guess, where you see things from Harry's POV, despite it being in 3rd person POV. xDD;;

And ohh, cohesiveness is something I need to work on as well. D: Lolz. xDD;;

Ferra 05-26-2009 06:54 AM

The zoo was a lot of fun! :3 I haven't been in several years myself, so it was neat to see the animals, especially since some were active that I hadn't seen very closely before. There weren't many new exhibits compared to the last time I was there though, which I'm guessing was around 4-5 years ago.

I actually have two characters named Ferra. XD The first one is the girl I just mentioned: she's an angry, wild draconian person (a race I made up called "Tarreans", lol). The only pic I have of her is one I drew aaaages ago, so there's no way I'll post it. But the other Ferra, which was originally only meant to be temporary until I picked a different name, is a Pokemon trainer OC from an RP my friends and I used to have. XD

I agree about people writing that way. I don't enjoy reading stories that come off as overly contrived where character actions are concerned. Usually it's just seldom moments that hit me and I wonder why the character reacted in such a way, so I let it slide. It's been a while since I've encountered really bad work like that, but then I don't read as much as I would like.

I have tried writing first person (my most recent segment was written this way) but I find it to be quite difficult sometimes. XD I also tried to write something "serious", but I always have to shove some humor in there since I'm rarely satisfied when I write drama since I feel like it comes out too forced/fake. I guess I'm good at writing pathetic characters that make you feel sympathetic though, so I'm told.

Cohesiveness is always an issue. XD I like having random side bits all the time and I don't like tossing them out, even if it likely would never come up in the story's cannon. That's part of why making a comic would be fun since I could sneak in omake side-bits.

Rylynne 05-26-2009 09:12 AM

That's good to hear then. :'D <3<3
And hmm... your latest trip to the zoo makes me want to visit one myself now. ^^;; Although, sad to say, our zoos over here in the Philippines aren't exactly the nicest quality. xDD;;

And ohh, I see, I see. =O And awws, I wanna see that old drawing! xDD;; If you do, I'll show you an OLD old drawing of my main character from my story, Linnea. 8DD;; It was from when I was, what, less than 10 years old or something like that? xDD;; Been so long ago, and I can't believe I kept my old drawings in the first place. >.>;;

And ohh, your Pokemon trainer OC is so... Pokemon-colored, lolz. xDD;; I see that Lina drew for you though, which is cool. =P <3<3

And yeah, I hate it when writing seems forced. >.>;; And, sadly, I have come across some things like that pretty recently, and they're popular titles too. ^^;; I dunno if it's just me though, or if it really is like that, but either way, I don't particularly like how those scenes from those books were handled. x_x;;

Lolz though. xDD;; I'm the opposite, in that I can't write good dry humor for crap. D: </3 Drama is more my thing. ^^;; Although, sarcasm is something I love to write, despite my difficulty in doing so. :x

And ohh, I know what you mean. =O It's one of the reasons why I started writing drabbles/fanfic-esque short stories for my own main story. xDD;; Not only does it help flesh out my characters, but it also gets those annoying plot bunnies out the window so that it's easier to concentrate on the main plot. ^^;;

Ferra 05-27-2009 06:59 AM

A lot of zoos seem to be so-so aside from the ones in big cities (so I hear). I've really only been to the zoo in Seattle that I recall, so I can't say.

I tried looking for it, honestly, but I'm happy that I've been spared since it seems that I never scanned that picture so it's now lost in the abyss. XD What's sad is my "art" is from high school and it still was terrible. That's part of why I gave art up, although I'm sure I would be much better now had I stuck with it.

Indeed she is pokemon colored. XD My friend actually drew a few redesigns of Ferra for me recently though that are a bit more contemporary (only slightly): [Outfit 1] [Outfit 2] I'm also in the process of making a new character since we might start up an RP again and I felt like making a boy trainer this time.

I haven't read a "popular" title since Harry Potter, so I can't really speak on today's novels. I'm quite pleased with a lot of the reading I've been assigned for my classes this quarter since I've been exposed to some literary greats that I enjoyed, for the most part.

I write humor and sarcasm all the time, but it's my particular brand of humor which I'm not sure carries over to a broad audience. It works within my friend group at least, so that's good enough for me. I always think of ways to make things awkward or funny, in RL and writing. XD

Lol, plot bunnies. I like exploring random ideas within a large story probably more than I should since I tend to neglect the bigger ideas, at least when I actually write. In general it works together though. I'm also guilty of writing "trash fiction" of my characters in non-cannon situations for my personal amusement. >__>; Which really doesn't help anything at all, but it's more appealing to write sometimes. (Nothing bad mind you, I'm terrible at writing intimate situations.)

Rylynne 05-27-2009 01:27 PM

True. :x Maintaining zoos must be difficult, I imagine. So, it's sort of understandable, I guess. ^^;;

And awws, I'm sure it wasn't that bad. =P <3<3
Although, at least you haven't given up on writing as you've given up on drawing. ^^;; <3<3

And oohh, costumes! :'D <3<3 I love them, seriously. xDD;;
I like the shoes of the first one, but the overall look of the second one more. =P And good luck starting up that RP again then! ^^

And hmm, one of the moments I was talking about actually came from Harry Potter. xDD;; That one could just be me though, but I know a lot of other people who're bothered by it, both RL and online. ^^;;
And oohh, what are you reading right now then? =O Right now, I'm reading The Time Traveler's Wife, so that I'm caught up before the movie comes out. xDD;; <3<3

And hmm, your brand of humor has me curious now. xDD;;

And oh! Trash fiction! xDD;; I've never written anything like it myself, but I've definitely envisioned and thought about it before. ^^;; Especially what would happen if ever they met X character from another novel or something. 8DD;;

Ferra 05-27-2009 07:56 PM

Trust me, it was pretty bad. XD It was slanted, had crappy anatomy, and was in pseudo-anime style, yuck. I can doodle little animals, but that's about the extent of my drawing ability. I really enjoy writing, so I don't think I would ever give it up. The problem I had with drawing was that I was always frustrated since what I envisioned was never how things turned out. I can capture my ideas better when I'm writing, but it unfortunately loses the visual.

I really like both of them. :3 She has a flair for character design. She's working on my new guy now I think based on the outfit I tossed together by help of photoshop and a trainer creator flash game. XD; *pathetic*

I'm not sure if we'll RP that story or not actually, I'm thinking it's more likely that we'll start a different RP back up again. The slightly futuristic one with my guy who encounters an "artificial being" who he later discovers is all kinds of f-d up. XD; Whoops.

I'm sure there were a few moments where things like that happened in Harry Potter, but it's been so long ago that I don't remember anything specific. It'll probably jump out at me if/when I read them again.

I can't exactly describe my sense of humor as that's quite difficult, but I like to use a play on words, be sarcastic, throw in things unexpected for the express purpose of lulz, and in general I just am rather corny. Not so much in my writing since that doesn't translate well, but when speaking with friends I tend to quote a lot of things and be obnoxious. I really don't know why they put up with me. XD

I've never written a story involving characters from a different cannon actually. Ever since making my own characters that has never appealed to me I guess (I have made "fan characters" like my pokemon ones, but they never interact with legitimate ones except on a peripheral basis, like fighting a gym leader that's part of the game). I imagine a lot of things of course. XD It's rather a bad habit that when I get bored my thoughts drift away and I tend to shut out what's being said around me - not a good thing to do in class, but it's hard not to daydream in some of them.

Rylynne 05-28-2009 02:53 AM

You can doodle little animals? =O Animals are a weakness for me. D: So, good on you then! =P <3<3
And yeah, it's so sad when what you envision doesn't come up with what you draw. :x I still have that problem now, but I'm improving on my drawing right now to hopefully remedy that. ^^;; The writing also needs improvement on my part, since ideas seem so much simpler in my head as compared to the difficulty I encounter when jotting it all down. xDD;;

And there's a trainer-creator flash game? o_O;; I... never knew that. xDD;;

And lolz, no need to excuse yourself for the language. 8DD;; Although, I'm not sure you ever mentioned in detail that story before. =O But you don't need to, seeing as I bother you enough with telling me a lot of your story ideas already. ^^;; <3<3

Yeah, maybe. =O I guess it's because the impression that JK isn't as great of a writer as I thought it was (she's good, yes, but not as good as I thought she was, to put it simply) stuck to me, and it's why I still remember those moments. ^^;;
Out of curiosity though, do you ship anyone from Harry Potter? 8DD;; While we're on the subject. =P

And lolz, because they love someone with a good sense of humor? xDD;; <3<3
But hmm, I get what you mean, I think. =P'

And OH! I daydream like that too. xDD;; One of my "worst" habits is staring at something, and then thinking really deep, so that I'm only looking at something, but I'm not seeing it, as my thoughts are definitely elsewhere. >.>;; I've been caught doing that SO many times in class. It's not even funny anymore, I guess. ^^;;

Ferra 05-28-2009 03:37 AM

By doodle I just mean doodles though. XD Nothing special. And I need to improve my writing too of course. I'm by no means that great at it, it's just something I'm passionate about.

It's not an official thing, just something fans made up. I know there are several incarnations of it out there, but this time I just used one I found on dA.

Well I'm the type that's more than happy to blather on about my stories/characters, so it's no trouble if you really want to know. :P I just don't want to bore you to death, and that story in particular is rather weird...

I've never been under the impression that JK was a literary great by any standards, but I did enjoy the books quite a bit. I really liked some of the characters and the world she created, but I never really considered her writing to be "zomg the best!" like some fans. XD I'm not a big shipper for things, but if I had to pick one guilty pleasure from Harry Potter it would be Sirius x Lupin, lol.

Maybe. :B My natural charm has blinded them from my annoying faults. Or maybe it's because I'm so damn awkward that's kind of amusing in itself.

I tend to space out as I walk, which is really not the best time for things and yet that seems to be when I get a lot of good thinking done. I know the path to class really well so it's hard not to slip into autopilot sometimes, especially when I'm tired in the mornings.

Rylynne 05-28-2009 05:56 AM

I think that everyone can improve in what they're good at. =P <3<3
And you know, I would love to read a short story/oneshot/drabble of yours. :> You have me intrigued indeed. ^^;; <3<3

And oohh, I see. =O I guess something like that was bound to happen, but I didn't think much on it till you mentioned it. ^^;; Reminds me of one of my friends though, who wishes to make one for the Kingdom Hearts universe, since they also have a distinct clothing style of their own. xDD;;

And pfft, I never get bored listening to other people's stories. =P Well, unless the story really IS boring, by all means, but from what you've been sharing with me, I don't find them boring at all. ^^;; I'd be happy to listen if you're willing to share. :> <3<3

And I guess my initial observations about JK being great stemmed from the fact that she really did get a large population of the younger generation nowadays (gawd I feel so old now when I should xDD) to read instead of playing videogames all day long. It was then that the naive assumption that "She must be great if she can get that many people to read!" first stemmed forth. ^^;; Now, I still respect her for getting kids to read, but it's a different kind of respect as opposed to the "greatness" I thought she had when I was younger. xDD;; But hey, I was a lot younger when I started reading Harry Potter, so I can't blame myself for thinking that way. ^^;;

And lolz, that's a popular pairing. xDD;; I'm not into slash myself though, but I do acknowledge the hints when I see it. ^^;;

You give yourself too little credit. xDD;; I'm sure you're awesome in your own right. =P And, maybe the awkwardness and charm do have a role to play as well. 8DD;; <3<3

And lolz, I used to do the same in my high school. ^^;; I've stopped spacing out while walking in university though, mainly because my university is so effin' huge that it's so easy to get lost in, especially since I don't know around a third or even half of the entire place as of yet. xDD;;

Ferra 05-28-2009 07:56 AM

Oh boy. XD Well if I can dig through the recesses of my harddrive and find something I'm not too ashamed of that could be understood without a whole lot of extra explanation, I'll send it your way.

They have a lot of "creators" for just about anything popular. That doesn't mean they're all that good, but it's still fun to mess around with them.

That makes sense about JK being seen as "great" for that reason. Likewise I also admire that she created such a popular book that got kids willing to read (and adults too). But that in itself doesn't make the stories good. Don't get me wrong since I did really enjoy the books, but I kind of just recognized them as fun fantasy rather than writing that really moved me like "true literature". Not to sound like a book snob, since I probably would prefer reading fun novels over "great" ones. I don't read as much as I would like as it is anyways. D:

When it comes to shipping/slashing I do generally slash more, but it's more because it's funnier that way. There are very few things I would slash "seriously", and that's only if the story makes it seem practically cannon. As a dumb challenge to myself I tried to think of how a slash relationship might actually work between just about all of the characters from my friends' and my stories. XD I decided that some simply would not work no matter what the situation and others could happen, but would be rather unhealthy relationships.

I embrace my awkwardness, so that could very well be true. I don't act as awkward around people I don't know well though, which seems rather backwards. I blame that on the fact that I didn't really have any close friends until high school. >__>;

I spaced out less walking in my high school because it was so small and crowded it would simply be too dangerous, except when I was in PE and we had to do long runs. My old college and my current university require me to walk along the same familiar paths day after day so its a bit easier in that respect.

----

H'okay, if you really want to know about this one, then it's best to understand first that the initial premise wasn't actually my or my friends idea since we actually picked an RP that we knew was going to be bad and made characters originally thinking of it as a joke. XD The RP in itself sucked and it died like we expected, but we took the core ideas and our old posts and adapted them. There are still kinks to be worked out though.

The premise is that it's the "near future" and the world is at war. Years ago some guy named James created the first "artificial human being" called "Art being" or "Arts" for short. They aren't androids nor are they bioengineered, they are just non-living things that look and act like people but are made from artificial materials meant to mimic living tissue. How that actually makes sense isn't important. >__>; These things don't age (for whatever reason a full adult model was never created before the guy died, so all known Arts appear 19 or younger, with older looking models technically being the youngest). The world at large fears them since they are stronger than humans too (not super-powered, but more resilient by far).

Anyways, my character Aram has an unusual fascination with the Arts. He's a 21 year old computer nerd who's a bit awkward and perverse in his own way, but all in all is actually a pretty nice guy. My friends character (Aphris) is an Art who appears to be around 15 but despite that is rather... confident I suppose. Aphris is unstable, has mood-swings, is an unsettling mix of innocent and dangerous, and is also very forward since he's rather arrogant. No matter how you look at it Aphris is a bitch. XD And really, he treats Aram like crap a lot of the time, but Aram's infatuated with the fact that he's one of the Arts which he idolizes.

Anyways, things progress and they have a rather unusual relationship. Aram is forced to pretty much give up his whole life to save the Art since Aphris was stupid and left the house while Aram was at work and ended up getting caught (and had to kill someone to escape, plus was injured himself). They escape the city together, but Aram quickly realizes that Aphris is far from perfect, like he believed the Arts to be. Much later on when Aram's at his wits end and can't deal with his crap anymore, Aphris apologizes and reveals that he was damaged and doesn't quite function like he should, which explains a lot and makes Aram feel guilty.

It's such a terrible relationship but it's interesting. XD; Sorry I rambled forever. I barely explained things things even.

Rylynne 05-28-2009 11:03 AM

Lolz, don't be embarrassed! xDD;; You don't need to even, of course. =P I wouldn't wanna force you to send something my way, after all. ^^;;

And yeah, that's true. =P Actually, paper dolls have always been one of my most favorite childhood toys. xDD;; <3<3 I collected a lot of them in the past even. They're just so fun to play with. ^^;; <3<3

And I get what you mean about the Harry Potter series being a "fun fantasy" as opposed to "true literature." =O I'd like to believe that it will stand the test of time though, even though in reality, I'm not too sure if it will. ^^;;
Speaking of great novels though, I really enjoy The Chronicles of Narnia. ^^;; I've only ever read The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe and part of Prince Caspian, but I think the series is something I intend to finish. =P
Lolz, just felt like sharing. xDD;; <3<3

Lolz, that sounds funny. xDD;; Imagining it, I mean. ^^;; I don't think it can ever work with my characters, personally, and I never even thought of the possibility, I guess. And, thinking about slash even more, I think that I only really ship one slash pairing for real. It's from a broadway/movie though. ^^;;

And really? =O That's kinda backward indeed. ^^;; Interesting though. xDD;; It sounds cute, actually. =P And kinda like a character even, I think. I mean that as a compliment, of course. =P <3<3

And ohh, lucky then. =O Seems we're the opposite then. ^^;; I wish I could space out more easily while walking though. :x Only time I get to do that is when I jog around our academic oval for exercise. ^^;;

And aww, that sounds interesting. =P I always love character interactions, and this idea seems to thrive on that, which is right up my alley. =O Their relationship really is interesting, I have to admit. =P
Any idea though on how Aram reacts to that or something? ^^;; <3<3

Ferra 05-28-2009 04:48 PM

I know, I know. XD I'm willing to do it, I just need to find something I consider worthy is all.

I love the Chronicles of Narnia! <3 My mom read them to me when I was little and I've read a few of them again since then as a refresher since we own the whole series. One of my favorite books is actually by C.S. Lewis but it's a sort of science fiction novel. He made a trilogy for that book series, but I've only read the middle one, Perelandra. It's strange but I love the language he uses. <3 And I think Harry Potter will still survive years from now, especially since there are accompanying movies.

O RLY? Which broadway show/movie? XD

Well I did make a character based on myself, so it works on some level. It wasn't for vanity reasons since I'm not fond of Mary Sue's created for wish fulfillment, my guy was made for the funny story with everyone in our high school suddenly switching genders one day because of a freak accident at the local government testing facility. :P

It definitely does thrive on character interaction, which is part of how we were able to salvage what we'd RPed and create our own version of the story since we ignored a lot of the stupid junk the other characters made up (trust me, it was baaad. D:)

By that point I think Aram would acknowledge, at least on a subconscious level, that he's in love with Aphris for better or worse. They have been through far more than any regular couple should, so it's not surprising he has strong feelings despite Aphris flip-flopping. Aphris, for his part, really does care a lot about Aram too, but he's broken so his social skills are impaired and he can confuse pain/pleasure, so he sometimes purposefully starts arguments.

Something I didn't mention is that another Art shows up (Roarke, played by my other friend) which makes Aram realize even more that Aphris isn't his only option. However, Roarke has his own issues since he wasn't so lucky in the humans he encountered.

Anyways, Aram would probably give up trying to leave him if Aphris finally told him the truth and owned up to not being so superior like how he acts. From then on Aram probably would just ignore the mean things Aphris does thinking it can't be helped and Aphris would realize he's being an ass and probably go back to being normal. So maybe their dysfunctional duo could work, but only for so long. Eventually Aram would be "too old" by the Art's standards and he'd leave him.

Rylynne 05-28-2009 05:04 PM

Okies then~ =P I'll just be waiting for it then, or, something. 8DD;; <3<3
Would it make you feel better if I sent something in return? :x
I hardly have anything worthy to show. D: But I feel guilty that you'll be showing something personal, and I don't have anything up to trade it for. ^^;; Kinda like equivalent exchange, if you've watched FMA. 8DD;; <3<3

And yay! Another Narnia fan! :'D <3<3
I'm actually currently into Narnia fanfics. ^^;; And I must say, I've stumbled upon a LOT of interesting and very note-worthy ones indeed. :> Especially since I actually learn from the fanfic, since it incorporates a lot of facts and a backdrop of the 1940's world that the Pevensie children lived in during the war. =O Not many fanfics have captured my interest such as this one. And, it's so intellectual, I can't help but love it. 8DD;; <3<3
... okay, sorry for the rant. :x I just can't help but gush about it. xDD;; <3<3

And hmm, that's true. :x Now I wonder if it will be set beside the "classics" such as The Lord of the Rings, Charles Dickenson, and, you know who else I mean. ^^;; It's actually an ongoing debate. =O I've forgotten the site though, but I do remember lurking around and reading what people had to say about that. xDD;;

And it's actually Collins/Angel from RENT.
I LOVE RENT, like, no joke. =\ <3<3
Never seen it on Broadway before, and I've only seen the movie, but GAWD, I love it so. ;_; <3<3
Collins and Angel are also one of my favorite couples of all time. :x
Their song together, "I'll Cover You", is the best. *__* And the reprise of that is also the best. *__*
*fangirls*
xDDD;;
<3<3

And woah, that's... an interesting story. xDD;; My friends and I pondered on that before, actually. =P We never made it into a story or something, of course, but the idea intrigued us so much, us girls decided to dress up like guys one day, just to see if we could pull of being guys for a day. 8DD;;
Worked for most of us, actually. ^^;; Some people mistook my friends for guys from the back. 8DD;;
It wasn't successful for me though. ;_; People say I'm too petite and feminine to pull off being a guy. D: It sucked, since I made a bet that I could do it, but bleh, I ended up losing, lolz. >.>;;

And that's good. :> At least your characters weren't completely forgotten then. :3 Forgotten characters are sad. ;_;

And ohh, I see, I see. =O Sad though that Aphris would leave Aram cause of old age. :< Although, it's realistic in a sense though. ^^;; I definitely have a character or two from my story who would do that, if given the option to do so. :x

Ferra 05-28-2009 06:45 PM

I'd be happy to read something of yours if you'd like to send it. :3 FMA ftw! I'm not sure when I'll have something presentable though since even if I find something I'll probably need to spend a good while revising it first. XD

I'm not big into fanfics, but there are a few that really capture things well. I tend to lean towards comedy ones though, or I like to read ones that are so bad they're unintentionally funny.

Time will tell when it comes to Harry Potter and if it can stand up in its own right. I still think there will be pockets of rabid fans no matter how much time passes and it seems like a series that kids now might read to their kids when the time comes, like how my mom read Narnia to me.

I thought it might be RENT. XD I really like RENT myself, but I also haven't seen the Broadway production. That's hardly slash though! It's cannon, silly. :P I can't help but think of Collins as a cop on Law & Order though, ha ha. I really wish they did a musical episode back when he was partners with the guy who does Lumiere's voice on Beauty and the Beast, but he passed away. ;___;

But back on the subject of RENT, my favorite character is Mark. <3 I love the song "Tango Maureen"for some reason. It's actually kind of weird since years before I knew RENT existed I made that character I mentioned based off myself, only as a boy, and he and Mark look very similar and they have similar personalities. [Brody] <- My character

I could never pass for a man though. XD I'd have to bind my chest ridiculously tight and then I have very womanly hips which would be difficult to hide. I'd be interested to see how I'd look with short hair though.

I have many "forgotten" character from past RPs, but most of them I don't mind losing since I wasn't all that attached to them. There are just a few that I really enjoyed and would like to bring back sometime in some incarnation or another.

And it is a little sad, but Aphris is really superficial so it makes sense. He flips out when his eye is damaged (when he escaped from getting captured he gets stabbed in the eye). The thing is "too old" for Aphris is only in mid-thirties. XD That's a bit depressing to be rejected when you're not even middle age. Then again it would be rather creepy to be that old and dating someone who only looks 15. (Then again it's rather creepy no matter what age you are unless you're a teen yourself.) But I'm figuring since there's a war going on, Aram would probably die before then anyways or something else happens that causes them to split.

Oh yeah, and here's what Aram and Aphris look like if you're curious. (The only colored picture of Aphris so far is a rather vicious chibi. XD)

Rylynne 05-29-2009 05:40 AM

There's no rush, don't worry. ^^;; Take your time~ =P <3<3

And I guess the initial reasons why I started reading Narnia fanfics is because of the events of The Last Battle. :x While I never read that book, I still know what happened in it, and it left me so sad that I needed some more of a Narnia fix or something to help me ease my sadness, lolz. ^^;;
But yeah, normally I don't read a lot of fanfics. And lolz! I know those fics. They make me cringe and laugh at the same time. 8DD;;

And hmm, that's an interesting viewpoint. =O It is easy to read to kids, I guess, even though each book got darker than the last. xDD;; Makes me wonder if I will let my kids read Harry Potter, when I have them in the future... ^^;;

And, well, yaoi and slash is almost the same to me, I guess. ^^;; I apologize. :x Were you thinking it was Mark/Roger though? xDD;; Cause, while I don't ship them, I've seen enough hints to suggest something of a possibility with them. ^^;; And OMG! That would have been awesome. =O Too bad they never did it though. ;_;

And oohh, that song is lovely indeed. :> I absolutely love RENT's soundtrack, since the words and rhyming don't feel forced at all. Their lyrics are so... smooth and natural to the ears? ^^;; My opinion anyway. =P <3<3
And wow. =O They DO look alike! Such a strange coincidence. xDD;; Reminds me of one of my other older characters who actually looks and acts like Roger, somehow. ^^;; He's since changed his look up a little, and he's only a minor character of sorts now, but the similarity WAS there. xDD;;

And at least you HAVE boobs. ;_; I'm flat. D: It's so sad. >.>;;
I have a big butt though, but I hid that with baggy knee-length shorts, haha. xDD;; And a baggy t-shirt. Not that it worked, but I hid it as best as I could at the time. ^^;;

Aww, then at least you don't scrap all of them~ =P
I myself have some forgotten characters, but I try to work them into my story/stories somehow, even if they only have very minor roles. ^^;; Guess I'm a little too sentimental about them, or, something. xDD;;

And yeah, I see what you mean. =O Still sad though. xDD;; <3<3
But wait. o_o;; That picture of Aram looks strangely like someone I've seen somewhere in an anime before. =O Can't pinpoint exactly who he looks like though. :x Lolz, cool. ^^;;
And the vicious chibi is so cute! =P <3<3

Ferra 05-29-2009 06:22 AM

I know the feeling. It's sad when good stories come to an end, but I generally avoid fanfics since for some reason I don't like the idea of being sucked into a non-cannon world (especially if the story is still ongoing) unless it's a parody. Not sure why. XD Maybe because I don't like the feeling of disappointment since if I liked the story, I know it will never be "true".

That's true, they do get rather dark. But so do a lot of "children" stories, especially the classics. I wouldn't probably read them to really young kids, but I don't worry so much about contents of books for kids as long as it's not very inappropriate/explicit. You can only shelter your kids so much and I feel books do less harm than graphic movies, as long as they aren't extremely twisted or pornographic.

Lol, I didn't mean it like that. XD It's just that most seem to consider "slash" to be non-cannon pairings specifically is all, since there rarely are legitimate yaoi pairings outside of comics and the like geared towards that sort of thing.

I got to say, Roger was probably my least favorite character in RENT (next to maybe Maureen), so I don't approve of that pairing at all, ha ha. Not to be mean or anything, he just didn't appeal to me.

It's always interesting when similarities arise. Like my friend and I also joked about him being similar to Lewis from that Disney movie Meet the Robinsons. XD If he was a little kid, that is.

Probably the craziest random similarity between characters is this picture my friend found on some Japanese fanart site (we have no idea what show its from) of two characters that look a lot like Kevin & Jaden from the same story as Brody. (Yes, another gay pairing. XD I swear I'm not yaoi obsessed, those are my friends characters. Most of my characters are straight actually. Aram's only gay by circumstance since he'd love any Art he found. I do slash sometimes for fun though. >__>)

I'd need some serious help if I was to effectively cross-dress I think. XD I still would probably look like an effeminate boy even if I was successful.

I'm really mean to my characters. XD I would have no problem if circumstances led to them dying. I'm really proud of some and like almost all of them, but I guess I'm just not that sentimental. I have an attitude that they're my creation, not anything else.

If you find out, let me know! His design is largely based on some random generic anime art I found since at the time I wasn't planning on him being a serious character. The pic I linked to is a commission from Harkem though since I tried to make him less of a rip-off. Here's the chibi my friend made of Aram, and here's also the one she did of Roarke, the other Art.
