Something I wrote for school... ^.^
Edna and I started down from Kalispell, heading for Tampa-St. Pete, where I still had some friends from the old glory days who wouldn't turn me in to the police.
I had lived mostly off of..."odd jobs" before I met up with Edna in a local coffee shop up in Kalispell. I had recognized her as a cop the moment I saw her, but that didn't stop me from saving her life once the gunfire started up. It was hard explaining exactly why I had a sawed off shotgun in my trench coat, but seeing as how I was the reason she wasn't bleeding to death on the floor, she worked things out for me. We became the best of friends, and we had a lot in common. It was our professions that caused the worst of fights, though. She had been with the police force most of her life, but I had been an assassin longer. She couldn't get me to switch careers. I knew I would have a short life due to all the enemies I had made along the way, so there was no turning back for me. Edna had been such a good girl. She was one of those "good cops" and was polite even to the sickest of criminals. She really should have parted with me and found a different friend. I've always been such a horrible influence. About a year after we met, I got into a bit of a pickle, and accidentally dragged Edna into it. One thing led to another, and before we knew it, she and I were running from both the law and a top secret group of highly trained assassins. I knew those bastards would betray me, but hey, it was fun while it lasted. Edna was a mess, stressing about where to go and what to do. I shrugged in a nonchalant manner as I picked the lock on our new ride, "Hey, how about a nice vacation?" "What?" she asked, baffled by my reply. "I hear Florida's a nice place," I grinned. "I got some old friends in Tampa-St. Pete that would love to help us go into hiding." "You're sure?" she asked nervously, looking around as she got into the car. I knocked on the side of the car as I started it up, "Hey, he still sends me Christmas cards, even after I stole his car...and accidentally killed his dog with a crossbow... You know of any kennels along the way?" Edna sighed, holding her head in her hands. She knew that life would be a lot more interesting now. |
