@Ultima: Last I heard, it used to be 40, then they pushed it back to 42 because they were hurting for people to join. *laughs* And it wasn't just PT that made you ache. Any time you did something wrong, as a group, you got "smoked." Push ups and flutter kicks till you thought you were going to puke. ^^;;

@Kale: At least you get the nice discounts. x3 I want that soooo much. *would have a massive library* >3

@Aryah: All I know is the Army, so I can talk about jobs that deal with that. There's multimedia illustrator for the creative artsy types. I wanted it, but it wasn't open when I signed up. Computers, there's information technician. Deal with computers, networks, and the like. If you're able to play one of the instruments like...bugle, trumpet, drums, and whatnot, there's the band. xD Jobs that deal with people...are probably medical, human resources...stuff like that. So that's what you would avoid. I dunno, there are like...hundreds of jobs. x_x Those are the only ones I could think of off the top of my head.

*blows on bangs* Honestly...I would have to say you should be concerned about your health. A lot of people come in with aches and make it, but some actually get worse because they don't take care of themselves. If I remember right...it's like physically demanding in this order...with the Marines as being the most.
Marines > Army > Navy > Air Force
Of course...I say that because I'm judging them by their PT test requirements. Marines run like 3 miles, Army 2, Navy 1 1/2, and Air Force 1 mile.

And basic training...is extremely hard on people who take things personally or lose motivation quickly. They don't tell you good job unless you really stand out and persist instead of sitting down and quitting. Depends on drill sergeants too. If you don't keep your head up and think positive day in and day out, it'll get into your head and you'll just want to quit. All of us at tons of points were like, what the hell did we get ourselves into? I want to go home! >_<!! *still says that, actually* 8D

Dimitri Bloodbane 06-07-2009 06:38 AM

@TK: :shock: ...wow... *didn't realize* By the way, what are "flutter kicks"?

ToriKat 06-07-2009 06:43 AM

@Ultima: You lay on your back, hands and arms on the ground. Then you lift up your legs and raise one, lower one. Keep doing it. You never let your legs touch your ground. It really works out your abdomen. And it burns like heck after awhile. xD

Aryah_Jade 06-07-2009 06:43 AM

@TK: Yeah, the mental and emotional demands are really my biggest worry, to be honest... I'm a very guarded person, and I can be pretty paranoid too, so that hurts me.

The last time I subjected myself to any serious physical stress was when I spent a 3 day weekend at Drum Corps camp, and came home feeling so frickin' sore that it hurt just to get undressed for the hot bath I so desperately wanted. That didn't actually bother me though. What got me was the fact that, following an incident where the drum line was practicing in the same room as the guard was one day (I was there for the guard, and the room had no sound proofing what-so-ever... wood floors... :roll) which gave me such an intense migraine that I couldn't even hear myself think, I believe I actually ended u0p crying on no less that 3 separate occasions that weekend... Oh, and I avoided the PUBLIC shower like the damn plaque... I changed in one of the bathrooms every day.

Aside from that, I only knew one person at that mini-camp, and he was in the horn section... so, yeah... I've never really learned how to deal with stress. :sweat: :ninja:

On top of that, I absolutely despise that typical response people have where they see you crying or just starting to cry and immediately want to come over to you all "Ohhh, what's wrong?" "Are you ok?" and being all touchy-feely .... It makes things worse for me.

Dimitri Bloodbane 06-07-2009 06:50 AM

@TK: Hmm, that sounds a lot like the bicycle kick. And I can just imagine how much it can end up hurting... :XP

@Kale: Did you get swamped with PMs again? :shock:

Aryah_Jade 06-07-2009 07:02 AM

@Ultima: Mmmm... a bicycle kick uses a circular motion.... and your hands/arms, though...

I think the flutter kick would probably be easier than the "8 inches" thing I used to have to do for guard, where you hold both your feet 8 inches off the ground for in undetermined time frame, and you're not allowed to move. At least the flutter kick gets a nice, repetative motion going!

ToriKat 06-07-2009 07:02 AM

@Aryah: Actually...in the Army...it sounds kind of bad, but you never really had people consoling each other when they were crying. Because they made us kick that habit. Instead of "babying" the individual, they wanted them to stop it so they ignored them until they got themselves "under control" and ready to train again. We're under the mindset that every member is part of the team. When one goes down because they're thinking of themselves, they kind of hurt the team and...for some reason, the team kind of leaves them alone until they're ready.
Makes us look like insensitive jerks. x_x But I guess it's still a masculine environment...that's why...

@Ultima: Since your legs have to be straight out, if you're wearing boots, it hurt more. xD When they had us doing it in the PT uniform with sneakers, it wasn't as bad.

Dimitri Bloodbane 06-07-2009 07:09 AM

@Aryah: Yeah, that's true.

@TK: Ahh, ok. I get it now.

Aryah_Jade 06-07-2009 07:09 AM

@TK: Yeah! That's really the way I prefer it... If anyone says anything at all, I'd be happy if they kept it to a simple "do you need a minute?", and then just leave me alone. I'm quite good at getting myself back under control when I really want to. :D
Yeah, I really can't think of the army as anything less than a very "masculine" environment. anything less just seems wrong, don't you think? I mean, since it's meant to contain all the people responsible for defending our country?

EDIT:

I just took a quiz to find out "which NCIS agent I'm most like".... and I got Gibbs. :XP :twisted:

ToriKat 06-07-2009 07:16 AM

@Aryah: I don't think it's as masculine...or psycho...as the Marines though. xD Those bunch...are nuts. ^^;;

The funny thing is that most people don't realize, is the Army isn't just a bunch of gun totting manly men. It covers just about every job you can think of. What I noticed are feminine jobs tends to be jobs like human resources and some medical jobs. The only really masculine jobs are infantry, mechanics, and electronics.

I totally get what you mean. I don't like to draw attention to myself, so I do prefer having everyone back off too. xD But some people hear about that, and they're like, WTF? MEANIES!

@Ultima: I definitely prefer the supine bicycle...They've had us just hold our legs out straight, six inches off the ground for the longest times too. *shudders* xD

Aryah_Jade 06-07-2009 07:20 AM

@TK: Hehee... we're a couple of strange ones, aren't we? :xp Oh well...

But, yeah... If I did join the military I dunno what sort of job I'd end up training for. Or, if I'd actually end up going through any special training, for that matter. I mean, I do have a class A cdl, so I'd be willing to bet that they'd try to talk me into doing some sort of a driving job for them. Oh well, it's all speculation at this point anyway, right?

EDIT:

Okay! help me out here...
Marines: Muscles Are Required Intelligence Not Essential = Jar heads?
Navy = squids
Army ...?
Air Force ... ?

Dimitri Bloodbane 06-07-2009 07:24 AM

Wow, sounds like this storm rolling in might be a doozy. And the sound of the rain is actually starting to make me a little tired. :P

@Aryah: :lol: That's great! :rofl: Just don't think about starting to treating me like Tim or Tony... :XP

@TK: Are Army boots steel-toed?

--EDIT--

@Aryah: I don't recall hearing one about the Army. But I've heard other people refer to Air Force as "Fly Boys".

Aryah_Jade 06-07-2009 07:26 AM

@Ultima: Umm... how can I?

Dimitri Bloodbane 06-07-2009 07:28 AM

@Aryah: Umm...by trying to slap me in the back of the head...? :sarcasm:

Aryah_Jade 06-07-2009 07:34 AM

@Ultima: Nevermind, smart-ass. :roll: :lol:
yeah.... but that's more for the pilots... the Air Force has a lot more than just pilots...

Dimitri Bloodbane 06-07-2009 07:38 AM

@Aryah: Yeah, but the Navy has more than just scuba divers, too. It's a generalization-type thing. Oh, speaking of Navy, I've heard of them referred to as Frogs, also.

ToriKat 06-07-2009 07:49 AM

@Aryah: Everyone goes through special training for their job. xD That's why I spent four months in San Antonio. Just to learn how to be a medic. Bah.
I...wouldn't actually want to be a driver. There's a truck driver job. One girl I went to AIT with had a boyfriend who did that. A couple days after arriving in Afghanistan, his truck got hit by an IED. >_<;; So he got to go home. I'm not saying EVERY driver goes through that...but the risk is there for that specific attack. D:

We learned that medics are specifically targeted by snipers and gunmen. They pick us out because we carry these huge aid bags full of our gear. They shoot us so we can't take care of anyone. >_>;;

@Ultima: Nah, not steel tipped. xD They're just tan dessert boots.

I actually can't think of a nickname for the Army. I know a lot of curse words I can think for it though. *whistles*

Aryah_Jade 06-07-2009 07:53 AM

@TK: Yeah, I've seen what IED's and all of that can do to a vehicle, so I'm not all that surprised.
I've also heard that medics/doctors are easy targets for the enemy, too. Not just to prevent you from helping your allies, but also to steal your gear, I'd imagine.
Oh, isn't war lovely! :roll: :sarcasm:

btw, here: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...diaBBcolor.png

Dimitri Bloodbane 06-07-2009 07:57 AM

@TK: IED? Let's see here... I believe that the "I" stands for Incendiary, and the "D" stands for Device, but I can't for the life of me remember what the "E" stands for. Not that it makes a whole lot of difference. I wouldn't want to be in a truck that gets hit by one of those things... :sweat:

What? Our little TK SWEAR?? I don't think that it's possible. You're too sweet and innocent. :yes: Unless you start hanging around me too long. :ninja: Then you might start picking up some bad habits. :P

ToriKat 06-07-2009 07:57 AM

@Aryah: They were CRAZY about us never having our aid bags farther than an arm's length from us. I kept it right at my foot and would drag it around while I treated the patients. xD If it was farther, the sergeants would grab them and throw everything around or run away with your bag. Just to show us that people wanted our equipment. Bahhh. xD I was just a little disturbed by how many videos they showed us of medics getting shot down. Every other soldier would walk around or dismount a vehicle. But the second the medic came into view, pow! Shot down. xD

Eeek! Thank you so much! <3 *loves getting arts* xD *dances around* They look so pretty. <3

Aryah_Jade 06-07-2009 08:01 AM

@TK: *cuddles* Yeah... No sniping for TK! :heart:

Oh, you're welcome! I did those quite a while ago actually. I think I asked Bani to make sure you got a copy of that, but I guess she got side tracked? I dunno. Any way, sorry it took so long.

ToriKat 06-07-2009 08:06 AM

@Ultima: IED = Improvised Explosive Device.

xD!! I think I've cursed a couple of times. When I slept a couple of hours a day, become emotionally and physically drained, sometimes the only thing that could come out of my mouth was, "WTF is wrong with you?!" when people I'm in command of decide to be complete jerks.

*is more likely to literally say W-T-F though* 8D

@Aryah: Awww! My first art in a long time. *so happy* <3

Aryah_Jade 06-07-2009 08:10 AM

:lol: Yeah, I can imagine you haven't had much time to spend hunting for new arts lately, huh?

Hmm... Improvised Explosives, Mortars, Tank Killers, Claymores, land mines... lot of wicked explosives out there...

Dimitri Bloodbane 06-07-2009 08:12 AM

@TK: Hrm, I must've been thinking of something else, then.

Wow.
O.o I think if I ever heard you swear, I'd be all like :shock: I just wouldn't expect it from you. :P

ToriKat 06-07-2009 08:19 AM

@Aryah: Yeah. Plus, I can never afford artists I would love to have art from. *dies*

@Ultima: Everyone in basic and AIT tried so hard to get me to curse. Just because it would humor them greatly or something. xD It's just out of character, I guess. 8D *nods*
