Nintendo DS Browser
I was in the store today and I saw this Nintendo DS Browser for surfing the internet from your ds lite. I hadn't heard of it before, so I looked it up when I got home. It seems that it just came out a few days ago and it's an Opera browser. Opera has some screenshots of features and some tips and tricks up on their site. There's a wikipedia article on it too.
So, looking it over, would you buy it? I think it would be nice while traveling. Duck into a hotspot and check your email from your ds. I can do that on my cel phone, but it's small and inconvenient and not really made for that. I think it would be good to take to conventions. The last time I got stuck in a registration line, everyone in the room was pictochatting out of boredom. If I had something like this, it would be nice too. So, what do you think? Neat? Nothing new? Not worth the money? Has anybody gotten their hands on it and tried it? |
Gods.. thanks for bringing this up to me.. I so want to get it now.. I would so buy it. I think it would be great for people on the go and such. Would be great to have and such.
I wonder if Mene would work on it. :? |
Hey, using it at cons IS a good idea! Unfortunately, often the hotels' internet connection is wired and/or you have to log into some crazy site BEFORE you can use the connection. That might make it hard to actually surf the interwebz with your DS...
But for hotels that have better (free) wireless service, that would be kickin'. Especially when you're sitting bored at an art table with no one else around. I don't normally like the idea of using mobile devices to check your email every five seconds, but it would be useful when there's nothing else to do. |
Looks interesting, I'll have to look into it more. Tho I have a laptop I may tink about getting it since I cant stow away my laptop all the time where I can slip that into a pocket and go. Could have its uses.

I bet if you turned the pictures off, you'd be zipping around in no time. Quote:

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'd have to turn off the pictures which would be a downer but then speeds things up of course... if I had the pictures on I don't think I'd be willing to wait for the time it takes to load everything and such. |
It's finally out? Thank god! I've waited forever for that thing to come out. Now, I can check my Gaia or Mene from anywhere there's a wifi connection, that'll be cool. But of course, there's always gonna that one person that will probably use it for evil......You guys know what I'm talking about.
For those of you that don't, I'm talking about porn. Yeah, I said it. |
I'm currently replying using the browser. It's defitely cool and Menewsha doesn't run TOO slow even with images enabled.

They finally got around to releasing it?
Awesome. Now to scrape together the cash to buy it, as i'm too cheap for a Blackberry. x] |
I heard the internet browser for the DS was terrible.
I have a PSP with a built-in internet browser, and it works great. I can get on to Menewsha and everything loads really fast. I can surf Mene on my PSP almost as fast as on a normal computer. @Kitsuta: I think, if it works that same as my internet browser, that you can search for hotspots. We have one in our house because we have wireless internet, so once you search you click on it and it should connect. ^^ |

And that's basically how the DS wifi works, but it CAN vary from game to game... or browser. |
I either read it in a magazine, or on the internet.
But I don't know personally, that's all I heard. It could vary with things like how close you are to a hotspot, how strong the signal is. Stuff like that. ^^ |
I've never had trouble with it at all.. actually it was the only thing I've been on for the past few days.
It's slow on Menewsha only if I had the pictures turned on if not... well it was perfectly fine, though sometimes I left pictures on because I like seeing the avatars... actually it wasn't exactly slow persay but just a nuisance because the pictures appeared as you scrolled down and it shot you back up to the beginning. ^^ Could just be my slow internet connection though.. I was going to try it at my boyfriends because he has wireless internet.. but it's password protected. >.> As for closeness... I haven't been to a hotspot yet.. but I've been using my DS in my room with the door closed many obstacles in the way of the signal of the wifi connector that was across the whole apartment and my signal was still excellent. So. I had no troubles with it... the only thing that was kinda annoying was the touchscreen keyboard isn't as fast as the normal keyboard and so I couldn't chat much on Menewsaha. Reading off of it is better than a computer screen though... as the computer screen hurts my eyes after a while the DS screen doesn't. |
I would buy one, but I only have the original DS, I don't have a Lite. D: I WANT ONE TOOO, DARN IT! D:
I've been hearing good things about it though, so I don't know. @[email protected] |

I got one, but it's all weird, I've had it for months, but It doesn't display Java applets and stuff properly at times, and some music sites don't work on it, which is what I spend most of my internet time browsing.

What the? Why does Kale have a black and white heaven pin? O_O
Uhm, anyway, well, yeah, I saw that earlier, in the Nintendo E-Mail that I get for portable news, that there will be one for the original. I didn't see it the other day, but I guess I shall wait to see if I get a laptop first, since I wouldn't need the browser. xD |

Talked ot a co-worker of mine who picked it up and he said to just save my money since I have a laptop. Its nice and all but he would only recommend it if I didnt have a laptop already or wasnt planning on getting one. So I'll be saving my money on it myself. Shame they couldnt have made it a little but advanced then it is, but cool they came out with it since that was the one area I saw that the PSP managed to surpass the DS in any way.

Oh gosh O.O I'm quite interested in this.. though i might not buy it now, maybe ill grab one of those later :D I know i could've used one of those the other night when needing to look up things in the car lol.
