I'm okay... School starts again tomorrow. TT o TT I don't wanna go! D; You? :D |
Wow, already? Mine starts next Monday. ^^; Boo...
I start working tomorrow though. Just four hour shifts till the weekend. |
Next Monday, like the week after tomorrow? ; o ; Lucky. Aw. What's your work? |
Night staff in the dorms. xD I sit at the desk, answer questions, get people a temporary replacement key or ID card, check out movies, and make sure people follow the rules. Like guest hours...security...stuff like that. We're mainly there for security, but...yeah. I don't consider it so unless I have a taser. 8D Kidding. ^^
|
xDD Is it fun? Or do you usually sit there if there's not much of any problems? Or is it fun because you get to sit there? O: |
Well, it starts at 12am. Sometimes it's interesting. Other times I have to deal with the police, EMS, drunk students, high students, angry residents...sigh. Sometimes residents won't listen to you unless you yell...My coworkers say I'm too nice, because I never do. You're not supposed to!! o_o;;
It's usually very boring. I'm allowed to go online and do whatever I want if it doesn't conflict with my alertness of my surroundings. ^^ Sometimes I'll study or draw too. <3 |
o0; Maybe you should try shaking people? xD;; Ooh~ So is it just you? Do you do it every night? o0; Aren't you tired? xD; |
Mmm, I start working tonight. xD I only do it on weekends during school, else I'll get worn out. On weekends I always request eight hour shifts. :3
I'm the only one at whichever dorm I get assigned to. My coworkers are at other dorms. ^^ I get worn out after awhile. It takes a toll. ^^; Sorry, I'm working on some art. xD I feel bad when I take forever to respond. >_> |
Ah. So if you start at 12 AM, you don't end until 4 AM? o0; How many dorms are there? No, no it's okay! ^^;; I feel bad for taking forever to respond here. >>; |
Hehe, for the four hour shifts, yes. ^^ I have one of those tonight. :3 But on weekends, I end at 8am. 8D
Oh gosh, let's see. While there's fourteen dorms...there are nine desks. Then there's two monitor positions...and three rovers...the people who walk around the buildings to check the outer doors to make sure they're secure. People will often stick paper in the doors so they won't close all the way. Then they can sneak in. >_>; You have to swipe in to get in, and after midnight, all the doors lock down except for the entrances where the desks are. |
xDD But don't you get sleepy? How do you stay awake for eight hours? o0; So...nine desk people, two monitor people, and three rover people...thus fourteen people for the night shift in all? But wouldn't the people notice if there's paper in the doors? >>; |
xD Tea or something else caffeinated usually helps. Chocolate covered expresso beans are love! Mm...I come on sites like this, turn on some techno or other dance music, watch online episodes, and just keep myself occupied. It's going to be really hard soon because they blocked Youtube from the computers. *coughs* I'll just watch VH1...Comedy Central...or something. ^^;
We usually have thirty people in the beginning of the semester. Then they start getting burned out and drop out. Part timers rotate on who gets which shifts. :3 Well, they jam it where the latch is. Just a little wad of paper. That way they can just push the door open even though it looks closed. *sighs* |
Aah, that makes sense. xD If it was me... I'd probably have to hire someone to poke me with a needle or something to stay awake. >>; -likes sleep- xD;; So how many people do you have by the end of the semester? o3o; Oh, I see... And then the sneak out and stuff. XP So basically what the people do is just open the door and close it? Or is there more to it than that? |
Eek! Hehe, sounds painful. xD
I'd definitely be sleeping if I don't work. Around the end of the semester, I started tossing out a lot of shifts for some of the others to take, because I desperately needed sleep. >_<; Eh, but on weekends, I'm usually up really late anyways studying, so that's why I don't mind getting paid to do it. ^^ Gosh, toward the end of last semester, I think we had like ten. >_>; They had to combine the roving positions or just drop the monitoring ones. There has to be people at the desks though. They can't make the full timers work on weekends...so they had to beg some of the RAs to take a few spots sometimes. Oh, and yeah. They just push the door, come in, and go to their friends' rooms. So little regard for guest hour policies. Most of the time, it's people of the opposite sex getting snuck in. Lots of girls want their boyfriends over. *caught a lot of them* >_>; |
Aaaah, probably. xD Maybe they'll just poke me or something. >___0 Aww. D: What, near the end of the semester, you tried like...every other shift, so you wouldn't be as tired? >>; Ooh, I see...so like, if you're going to stay up, you might as well get paid for it? D: Yipes. But if there'd always have to be people at the desks, wouldn't that leave like one person to do the rest? xD; |
xD I don't know how effective that'd be. If I see someone else asleep...I'll sleep! My friends never have that kind of endurance. ^^;;
Once, I stood up to stretch and move around a bit. Then I stood there for awhile...and the next thing I knew, I had almost fallen asleep and I was falling over. >_<; It's funny when I think about it now! Hehe! *nodnod* I usually stay up till 3 or something on weekends. Another hour...or five...eh, can't hurt. :3 Hehe, oh, there's only one person per desk. xD It'd be a LOT easier if we had more people. Someone to talk to and stuff. ...wait, I forgot about three other monitor positions. D: Make that seventeen people. *thinks more to see if I'd forgotten anymore* I think that's all. I barely work at those three shifts...so I hardly ever remember them. ^^; |
xDDD Aww. At sleepovers and such, I'd always be the one trying to keep everyone awake. >>; xD If I see someone sleeping, I'd be all, "NUUUUWAKEUP!!!" >>; But then I'd get sleepy...and then we all sleep...xD;;; xDD That'd look kind of funny... >>; xDDD Yeah, but there's not a lot of people... It would, though, because you can keep each other company and then the job would almost be fun. >>; D: Aww. But in the end, if there's only about ten people, how do you manage? o0; What if you guys tried pairing up the people at the start of the semester? It might make it easier, so people wouldn't drop out of it as much? |
*LAUGHS* I did that once. Got hit on the arm for it. 8D
It would be SO good if they paired people up. *sighs* Roving used to be a paired position where two people walked around the entire campus at least once. But then they divided it up and made it the most pain in the butt position. We're not allowed to stay in one spot for more than 5 minutes! *sighs* I dunno. Any suggestions or requests we make usually goes without a response. T_T |
xDDD Well...they'd have to be awake to hit you! ;DD xDD; Aww. D: Who's the person in charge of that kind of stuff? You could blackmail--I mean, speak to them face-to-face, so they'd take it more seriously? |
Hehe, so then mission accomplished. >D
Mmm, there's a large hierarchy. Right above me are the student supervisors. Above them is the professional supervisors. Then the Housing and Food Department. And finally the University itself. xD It's okay. *sighs* We pretty much knew what we were getting into from the start. I'm only working till the end of the semester before I move on to better things. :3 Just making some change to eat out every month or something. 8D |
xDD Hip hip hooray! Now just beware of them in the morning. xD; So... University < Housing and...Food Department? > professional supervisors > student supervisors. Nkay... So if you'd want to see someone about something, you'd take it up to the professional supervisors? Ooh, what do you have in mind? O: How much are your wages? |
Hahaha, and be a fast runner! Jump hurdles! 8D
*nods* But it's the professional staff who doesn't pay any mind...*sighs* Like I had to complain for months about how RAs would relieve me at like 8:30am or something before they told the RA's bosses to tell them to stop it. D: $8/hr. xD Mmmm, looking at the Peace Corps, Americorps...something where I can serve the underprivileged. :3 *getting hungry* o_o Let's see what I can eat... |
-lurklurklurk- >:3! I stalked ToriKitty here :o
periwinkle is a fugly color RAAAWWRRR -lights thread on fire- muwahahaha! -runs off to draw elephants- |
xDDD Whenever I think if jumping hurdles, I think of...hopping...>>;;; -doingdoing- xD;; DD: Awwww. Meanie staff. :< So it's not tooo bad, right? Oooh...you're so nice. xD;; Ooh, food...-drool- >>; You should get some soup or something? xD;;; Edit;; @ kitkat: ... o0;;; |
@kitkat: Hey there! xD I got stalked! *laughs*
@Puff: I think of me tripping over the hurdles. D: *isn't very athletic* @[email protected] I don't think it's that bad. ^^ I mean...to me it's free money, hahaha! Tax time is going to BITE though. D< Soup sounds good. I had a tangerine and it wasn't satisfying enough. ._.; |
