learn to not care like give yourself a prize when you don't correct someone or just give them a look with your eyes.

I have the same problem, but mainly with family and people I don;t talk to as much. The majority of my friends are literate + intelligent <33

Actually all of them are, otherwise I wouldn;t be friends with them. Lame I know, but stupid people annoy me. And yeeh, I always have to restrain myself from correcting them or just yelling out in frustration.

I make mistakes aswel although I usually go back to correct these, but yeeh, I honestly don't know why some people (including me) get annoyed at things like these.

Maybe it's just human?

D:

Oh and also, ever considered the fact that they might be inwardly annoyed at you as well for perhaps being "snobby" or something.

Eh I dunnp, just trying to see it from their point of view although tbh, I don;t rly think there's anything you can do about it unless they make rly obvious mistakes repeatedly in which case you could probably mention it to them sometimes

IE -

Friend - There is trees!
You - Ohyeaahh...

5 mins later-

Friend - There is (eehh) cups!
You - yeeehhh...

-Another 5 mins later-

Friend - There is balls!
You - haha, you keep saying is instead of are ;p
Friend - Really? Never noticed

-Later onnn.,..-

Friend - THERE IS BIRDS
You - You just did it again! ;p

Or something along those lines. I dunnp I do that, I feel bad when I correct every single mistake though although I do that deliberately sometimes when I want to be mean/rude/snidey...

XD

Personally I am not very good at grammar because English is not my second language.
PS: If you see me having a grammar mistake, help me fix it^^hehe.

anyways,

I really wish I have not annoyed any of my friend without knowing it, and because of my grammar..O.o
I really don't know how it feels to hear bad grammar ALL the time? Sometimes I fix my mom on her spelling and grammars too. But when she is talking to other people I don't know well, or such, I can resist it, I get use to it.Maybe in your case, you can too?

Try not be so straight forward all the time, get use to it. People don't think when they talk, about all grammar and stuff. Maybe also help them out with their assignments on their grammar. And you can hope that one day they will improve?^^

I SUCK at grammar... now I'm going to have to watch myself as we discuss Harry Potter Lol.

I don't think you should ignore it. For a couple reasons, if you correct them enough eventually they will start getting it right then it will annoy you less ^___^. Another reason is if you stop correcting it you might start messing your own grammar up or something.

I'm the same way I suppose, not exactly the same though. My roommate always asked me how to spell the stupidest things like how do you spell "stem" or "plain" it pissed me off. I eventually told her to look it up in a fucking dictionary... >_> yeah we aren't friends anymore...

I think the only reason you should maybe keep quiet is if they are getting annoyed with you constantly correcting them. Other than that keep teaching English lessons! Hooray!
:D

It's guess its alright to correct wrong grammar as long as you don't do it all the time. Correcting grammar all the time makes people think that you find them stupid because they can't make a proper sentence. People tend to make a lot of grammar mistakes nowadays because of slang. Know what I mean?
It's even worse here in my country since English is the second language for most people. When they try to speak English, they tend to say stuff like
"You do da homework alredy?"

I have no problem with people who have English as a second language or just don;t know it aswel.

It's just the ones that choose NOT to use it properly or just the ones who I know are capable of it but don;t show it.

XD

Ooh, I say, I can identify with that.

First, only my brother did it. In Holland, where I live, people make stupid mistakes like using "them" as a subject. In Dutch, mind you, but still it's the most stupid mistake you can make. So he always corrected us. I got terribly annoyed with that. That was... three, four years ago, when I was still in primary school.

Then I went to secondary school. I'm in a grammar school, so you could expect people here to use decent grammar. Well, they don't. They make the dumbest mistakes you can imagine. I developed the habit of correcting people as well. My brother stopped it. So now I was the annoying person. I constantly keep correcting my parents, sometimes my brother, and my friends at school. My friends can live with it. Some of them have even stopped making mistakes.

But here comes the trouble: I dance. The group in which I dance mainly contains... less gifted people. *cough* They make mistakes ALL the time. And I get annoyed with it SO badly. But when I correct them, they glare at me like I'm Ms. Devil. I've learned to contain myself, I've learned to stop correcting them because it's just no use, they'll never learn and they'll only hate me for it. Even my dancing teacher does it, but I daren't correct her! XD

So my advice is... correct people when they don't mind that much, but if they're annoyed with it, try not to. ;D

Ohmygosh, me too! I seriously can't stand them. But I keep my mouth shut, because some people just can't take other people to correct them. ><;

BALLBALLBALL 07-16-2007 06:32 PM

I really know where your coming from with this, I dont think your alone in that this annoys alot of people. I always double check my grammer to make sure that it is perfect!!! It's not unnatural that this gets on you're nerves.
:)

BALLBALLBALL 07-16-2007 08:03 PM

I THINK GRAMER IS RELEI UNESSESSERY.

ITS LIKE PREGIDIS AGENST THE DISLEXIC AND I DONT LIKE THT TBH

clevernamepending 07-16-2007 11:57 PM

If you're this aware of your own grammatical habits, the chances of it rubbing off on you are pretty slim. If it's a horrible horrible mistake that makes a normal person do a double take, then maybe correct them, but having someone correct your grammar all the time over little things is one of the most annoying things out there.

Azureile 07-17-2007 12:17 AM

xD;

I have the exact same problem. I'm constantly correcting my mom. DX I don't think she always appreciates it much...

most of the time, she'll just say "yeah, thanks." or "I said that." But sometimes she'll just blow up. xD;

- -;

I'm a grammer freak, i know. D: But I can't help it.

She always tells me to make sure I don't correct my friends, though. And they make MANY mistakes. It drives me insane. xD;

Especially when they say things like "Me and her is going over to the pool. Wanna come with?"

Ugh. xD;

it always annoys me on AIM when people use lazy spelling. xD I mean, okay, "brb", I can deal with that. They're in a hurry, fine.

but when they start saying "u noe wut happened at skool todai?", it just...makes me annoyed. D:
