A Familiar Sight- A Poem by Dokuro
There was a poetry contest at my school. The theme was: "Coming Together." I wrote this for it, but even though I placed pretty high, I didn't get any feedback on it. I was hoping that maybe could get some here. And yes, it's cheesy. I like cheesy, lol.
-A Familiar Sight- I walk the dirt roads of Africa Looking at the sights before me As I gaze across the distance It's more familiar then it seems. First I meet a tribe of thinkers There, cognition is their game Playing games with words and numbers They think everyone should be the same Next I meet a tribe of Aesthetics Optimists, living carelessly Laughing singing playing loving Theirs is the only way to be Further on are witch doctors Magic potions delay their pain Obsessed with death, suffering through life Those who love are the ones to blame On the right is a tribe of cultists Worshiping their ancient ghosts Living strictly by their words All who don't are the devil's host Across from them, those beautiful as angels Painting their face, dripping with gold Their body is what they worship Leaving other tribes in the cold Lastly a tribe of a different color Who separate themselves from the rest Convinced that they are a whole different beast And that they'll always be the best In this third world atmosphere I'm not surprised by all of the war But if they'd take a second, they'd see They're all the same when masks are torn If they could just look past their scorn For those who don't see the world the same I see the birth of a united nation Where no one culture is to blame And now as I walk the main hall of my school I look at the sight before me As I gaze across the distance It's more familiar then it seems |
