I wish I could play these games. I've always wanted to, though never was given the chance to get my hands on copies. None of my friends own copies either, so it makes it even more difficult. That, and I generally have little to no money when I goto buy games. Most of my gaming money gets spent on Dance Dance Revolution. Ugh.

I saw the movie of it, and now I really want to play the games. They look completely awesome.

Naiyo 09-28-2007 07:21 PM

I got to play the arcade game in Japan. : D It was SOOOO fun!!
All the voices are in English (with Japanese subtitles) and the game is just really fun. I got pretty far my second time around and ended up getting a high schore/type thing but since I didn't have one of the arcade cards for the game (they cost money and couldn't figure out where to buy one) I didn't get to save or anything. :/ it was still really fun. ^_^

YES!!! I FOUND THE SILENT HILL THREAD! *does happy dance*

Well I've only got the 2nd one...which I purcheased before the silent hill movie trailer came on. I couldn't play it back then...kept freaking myself out. But recently a friend of mine who is a James fangirl got me into it again. I'm in the Hotel... Eddie was freakin' nuts. XD
The part that scared me the most? Well their were a lot of those moments, but the one that sticks out the most was investigating the prison bathrooms I knocked on the door and as I was leaving I was startled by a scream and pounding sound.

Bloody freaky music.

Montgomery Domoheart 10-19-2007 11:02 PM

I never had the pleasure of playing a Silent Hill game, but from what I read on Wikipedia, the plot is very interesting. The only one that really hit me was the first one.

@Naleh: There's an index thread stickied at the top of this forum. ^^;;;

I watched my sister play the end of SH 2, and I saw her play a few parts of SH 3. (She also played the first Silent Hill game, but I never saw enough to know anything except the guy was looking for his daughter.)

Then, one night, I decided I was really interested in Silent Hill, and since I didn't have any of the games, I went to GameFAQs and read all the gamescripts and a few people's interpretations of the games. ...pretty much made sure I was creeped out that night.

I've wanted to play SH 3 for a long time, but I couldn't find the game, so I ended up buying SH 2. I've gotten to the labyrinth where Maria is, but I get creeped out by the game very easily so I've progressed at a turtle's pace. (How easily scared? I'm using a walkthrough, so I know what's going to happen--and I still freaked out when Pyramid Head appeared behind James.)

I've watched all the endings of the games via youtube. I'm still interested in playing SH 3, but I probably wouldn't buy it if I saw it, since I'm not sure I'd ever beat it.

OmgWtfHoshi 10-20-2007 11:03 PM

Silent hill is having my babies.

Number two:
Amazing.
Why?
Pyramid head.
O.M.F.G
Swear to god.
Baaah<333.
Enough spazzing.

I've played 1, 2, 3 and 4.
I've completed 2 and 3.
Two was the best... *coughpyramidheadcough*
3's story line was really good, though.
Number 4... I couldnt complete it >< Some of the puzzles just CONFUSED my simple brain, and some times I got so scared I had to pause and walk around the house abit.

But anyway.
Silent hill is an amazing game.

...! DX GAAAAH! WHY DIDN'T I SEE THAT BEFORE!!! *dramatic fall*

*cough* Silent Hill 3...I'm so tempted to play it. Pyramid head is my favorite, though when I first saw him I called him Wedge head. It's now my private nickname for him.... gah wasn't that part where Pyramid head was chasing you and Maria down the hallway totally freaky? O_o and the second time you see him after he has his fun with the manikens(sp?) and your hiding in the closet? ...I though James was a bit stupid there. >.> I would have just fainted in the closet due to fear. I'm glad I had friends with me when I got there. ^_^0

I love the Silent Hill games. :]
The last one was my favorite. A lot of parts
scared me out of my seat, but I can't recall
any specific parts. The nurses? That one guy
in the 4th one that kept coming after you?

KazumiAsakura 07-16-2008 09:09 AM

I love Silent Hill! My fave is 2 but 4 scares me the most! I love how all the story lines merge together somehow! Silent Hill is just plain amazing!

I do want to get peoples opinion, what do you think about Walter Sullivan in 4? Is he ultimately good or evil?

Captain Howdy 10-08-2008 07:08 AM

Here's somethin' a Silent Hill fan can appreciate.

I found the Greatest Hits version of Silent Hill 2 at Gamespot. I never had an XBOX, so i've been looking for the GH SH2 for years. I bought a copy off of ebay once, but they sent me the original. Bah!

Now I gets to play me some Born from a Wish. :boogie:

KazumiAsakura 10-08-2008 09:43 AM

I love that born from a wish scenario! It really freaked me out, have shivers running up my spine the whole time lol!!!

Captain Howdy 10-08-2008 10:47 PM

:O Freaked you out? ... I likes the sound of that.

I haven't been able to sit down and play it yet, but I hope to soon. I've played the original release more than a few times and now not only do I get 'Born from a Wish' but I also get to see the UFO ending. ;D ... I've never seen the Dog ending either, but that's cause I was lazy.

:P

KazumiAsakura 10-09-2008 12:44 AM

Ive managed to get all the endings for silent hill 2! every one is awesome but my fave has to be the dog ending!!

On my first night at her house though, we watched the movie straightaway. Me being me, I got scared easily, but it wasn't that great to me (frankly because I'm not overly familiar with Silent Hill even though it's awesome) and the ending was very...anticlimactic?

Oh by the way, DK and I also have a favorite Silent Hill video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1mhbH7CgZs

It's pretty damn funny -- but I won't post the title here because it may be inappropriate for the site, eheh.

XD A year later and I finally respond to this thread!

But yeah, anyone who knows me well knows I am crazy for Silent Hill but for some reason lately I'm just not really into the recent games. D: Maybe I'm probably still resentful that Team Silent is no longer making the games.

Mariku 11-25-2008 04:54 AM

I started out playing Silent Hill 3, which is the freakiest game out of the entire series in my opinion. There was this moment in the construction building where I went to a fence with a bed on the other side. My radio wasn't going off, so I went to get the first aid kit on the bed. A slurper bum rushed me as soon as I went near that bed. I screamed and my cousins, who were watching me play, screamed as well. The background in the underpass is kind of freaky and disorienting on normal/hard difficulty. The story was good, but I felt like the dialogue was somewhat lacking/corny. It's still my favorite out of the series.

Silent Hill 2 is only freaky because of Pyramid Head. You can hear him walking around and scraping the great knife on the ground. I loved the story and characters. The story felt a little short, but it's definitely has some of the best plots of the series. I'm kind of scared to play it sometimes because of the Pyramid Head fights.

Silent Hill Origins was good, and filled in alot of holes that the first game needed to fill. I was disappointed that Team Silent didn't work on it, but the game was still good. It felt short, and I really hated the lying figures/straightjacket monsters with a passion. It's the least frightening game out of the series in terms of monsters, but the real appeal is having to go into the otherworld on your own terms. Choosing to go into the nightmare world on your own terms is both frightening and thrilling. The story makes me wish that the game would have been longer and that Alessa and Travis's character would have been explored further.

I haven't played the first one, but I definitely hope to get it soon. The 4th game I'll pass, or maybe just rent.

Captain Howdy 10-08-2009 10:42 PM

This thread needs some love. :3

So after much procrastinating I finally finished Silent Hii: Origins. Despite the opinions of some fans, I really liked this game. It was short compared to the other games, but I loved how it added to the mythology of Silent Hill. And I really liked Travis as a protagonist.

I've only seen the good ending so far. I'm working on the Bad and UFO endings and i'm trying to gather all the accolades.

I'm also really looking forward to Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, which comes out on the first of next month in the states. I plan to preorder a copy at Gamestop, which gets you the soundtrack free at release. And i'm sure as hell not gonna pass up a free SH soundtrack. I love Yamaoka Akira's work. ;D

brain storms 10-09-2009 07:32 AM

I've rented Homecoming earlier in the year and didn't get super far but I watched my ex play it all the way through.: O I own and have played/beaten 3, which was pretty good in my opinion. Even though my grandma called it evil. I was like "It's SUPPOSED to be gross and creepy and scary!" Annnnnnd I've seen the movie twice.

I'm debating on whether I should get 2 or 4 next..since those are the only ones that Gamestop has right now.-__-;

eCrink 10-09-2009 09:35 PM

I've played through the first three games, and I own SH: Origins.
I've gotta say, the first two are phenomenal games and I love them to death.
I didn't enjoy 3 much. It was all nice except for Heather. She just annoyed the snot out of me; I wanted to extend my hand through the TV screen and punch her in the jaw. >:C
Plus the whole "OMGZORS UR MOTHER OF GOD LETS GO TO PARADISE YAY!" storyline turned me off quite a bit.
I still haven't gotten through Origins, the combat makes me cry in fear and rage.
How many times in real life have you broken a wrench in 6 hits?
I can see why they would disappear, if Travis shoved them through monsters and ran away.
Also, those monsters that run ridiculously fast scare me.

Either way, my love for the first two outweighs my annoyance with 3 and 0, so it's all good! :'D

Captain Howdy 10-09-2009 11:12 PM

@eCrink ~ Of the five games i've played (haven't played Homecoming yet) Silent Hill 3 I consider to be my favorite. I really liked Heather as the protagonist and I also like how it steered back to the whole story of the cult, which SH2 veered away from.

Also, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories was supposed to be released on the thirteenth of this month. About a week ago I read on Gamestop's site that the release date had been pushed to November first. So I went to Gamestop today to preorder my copy... and I find out that Konami has further pushed the release date to December 8. ... I understand these things happen, and they are done for the benefit of the game. But Howdy was still a sad panda. :(

alyakcim 10-12-2009 12:15 AM

My favorite Silent Hill is a tie between 2 and 3. I can definatly say my least favorite are 4 and 5, especially 5. 5 is horrible. I love the series so much though. I dream about it, I write about. It's rather disturbing, really, not that I care. It's such a great series. I love contemplating what SH would be like for me. I'm not sure what the scariest part for me was... although I don't like 4, it was one of the scariest, I think. The haunting with the phone was really scary...

Kole_Locke 10-12-2009 07:34 PM

I have Silent Hill Two but have never played any of the other ones. I wanted to play the first Silent Hill on the Play Station One but never did because I could never get a copy of it. Now, Silent Hill One is being remade on the Play Station Three called Silent Hill, Shattered Memories(Correct me if I'm wrong)? I may break down and buy that one. Part three looked really interesting, but I had a hard time trying to tie the fourth one in with the rest of the series. The movie was way out there, it seemed like it had elements of one, two, and three.

Captain Howdy 10-12-2009 11:05 PM

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is exclusive to the Wii, PSP and the PS2. So if your PS3 is one of the older models that is backwards compatible, you'll be able to play on that system. SH: Shattered Memories isn't a straight remake. It's a revision, a retelling of the first game. Watching the trailer, you can tell that many things are different. I've been through the original game many times and love, but I am eager to see how SH:SM remolds the story.

What was you're take on the original for the play station one? Did you like it? (I'm guessing obviously you did or you wouldn't be posting about it LOL). The graphics really looked intense on ign when I was watching some of the videos posted.
By the way, what did you think of the movie?

Captain Howdy 10-13-2009 06:28 AM

I love the first Silent Hill. I was obsessed with it back in '99. I had never played anything like it before. Well, I had played a few survival horror games, like Clock Tower and Resident Evil for example. But the difference is that those games were 'jump out and shout Boo!' kinda scary. Silent Hill played with your mind. It made you fear what could be there.

Ten years on the graphic aren't as polished as they used to be, but it's still a fantastic game.

I liked the film version. It wasn't the best but, taking into account what Hollywood does to video game film adaptions, it was still pretty good. I think if you're not familiar with the games it wouldn't be as special. But to those who are familiar it's a like a love letter to the fans. ;D
