I don't think we're in Kansas anymore, Menesha.
So I am currently in my bathroom, completely naked, as I am ready to go and step what would be my nice, hot shower. Then comes the booming sound of my mom screaming at the top of her lungs, informing me that the news had reported a severe thunderstorm warning. Sadly, I grab my clothes and put them on.
SOIHEARMYMOMTALKINGABOUTATORNADOWATCHFORMYCOUNTY. A part of me died as I went into "SHIKYO IS PANICKING" mode. So I grabbed my Nintendo DS, two games, my cat, and a blanket as I rushed right down to the basement with my two parents. The news grimly talked how someone had claimed that a tornado had touched down but they weren't sure if that was true or not. People tend to hallucinate, freak out in situations like this. I.am.terrified.of.tornadoes. Hurricanes? Fine. Hail? Sweet. Lighting? SHINY. Thunder? Not a big deal. Big, swirly things? GTFO. The News: "Oh, by the way. Howard County is screwed. First, we'll talk how the warning applies especially to you. Then we will go and then say the next minute how you should worry about the storm. Ignore the fact that a giant, spinning funnel cloud might destroy your house. Oh---and here we go talk about Oprah and 9/11. By the way, enjoy the nice purples and pink heading to your area. Ten o'clock isn't that far away." My computer is in the basement. I will probably die typing or reading a thread here or on Gaia. Brilliance. Poor, poor fireworks. n_n Discuss tornadoes, thunderstorms, rain, fireworks, Fourth of July and the news. |

tornadoes, thunderstorms, rain, fireworks, Fourth of July and the news.
Hmm. Well. *crosses out tornadoes + 4th July* I live in England, where those things don't exist. Rain, fireworks and the news? Nice, Great, Boringish. |
I'm in KC MO... I'm so used to the severe thunderstorm warning, flash floods and tornado watches it doesn't even phase me anymore... If a tornado is going to run over my apartment... I guess I'm going to die... and no form of cowering in the corner is going to save me ^.^; I remember tornado drills in school as a kid in GA... I always thought they were so lame... Like crouching on the floor and covering our heads was going to save us from impending doom ^.^;

If roof crashes down on you, it's not going to ignore the fact that you have your arms around your head. |
That sucks. D; I am afraid of big storms and tornadoes. They are scary. I wouldn't want to live near there where they get a lot of them. I'll deal with the snow here in NY. xD

I am started to get amused over the fact that there has been no fireworks cancellations so far. People tend to forget, especially the ones that are involved, that rain and fireworks do not mix. Or the fact that it is not even a good idea to use them, even after letting them dry out for the period of three days.
That happen a few years back, when I about twelve. What happen is that it rained on the Fourth of July, and they had decided that they would instead do the fireworks that Saturday. Instead of watching it from my mom's friend house we went to the park with my cousin and his soon-to-be wife at that time. People were getting hit by debrys. Hell, there were people who were getting sent to the hospital. Me? I got hit by two pieces. |
So, the purple colors are starting to head where I lived. For awhile the news were insisting on that it was a watch, but apparently not they decided to up it to an warning as it started to head towards Columbia. Normally, I wouldn't mind a bad storm.
TORNADOSMAKEMECRY. Columbia is five minutes away from me. I live in Ellicott City. Most likely it'll pass a really, really bad storm. |

Last time we had a tornado watch I freaked out and hid under the bed...didn't touch down though?
There's a watch in southwest NJ right now...glad I'm in the eastern portion of the state. |

Tornadoes don't usually hit the East Coast. Hurricanes and Northeasters are pretty much the worst of my issues. |
I used to be terrified of tornados.
Then I found out there aren't tornados in California. xDx; |

About five years ago, when I was twelve or Thirteen, I had just moved into a new house in a new town with my Mom, three brother's and my Dad.
Well. That night, we had a tornado five miles from my house. And we're awed by it. So. Me, my Dad, my Mom, three brothers and a little neighbor girl were out in my yard watching this thing and taking pictures. Dad: ...Tornado. Eldest Brother: ...Well spotted. Me: LETS GO TO THE EMERALD CITY! Second Eldest: ...Can we sell her yet, Mom? Needless to say, I don't mind bad storms anymore. X3 |
I'm under the devout belief that Northern Indiana will never get a tornado. =D
But this one time, during one of the biggest storms in my memory, my mom, brother and I were driving home and our car DIED. As the storm of the flippin decade was coming upon us. We had just gotten into another vehicle to take us to the shop when it started pouring rain. I was terrified. And then when we got home we had lost power (No surprise.) But it was very scary to be out in it. Fireworks rock. Turns the neighborhood into a war zone. ;D |

OOH!! Here's some educational reading for you then Capsule  Britain tops Europe and US as target for tornadoes |
lmao. I would be too. Except Hurricanes, i might be afraid of.
And tsunamis aswell. >D |
i am guessing you're in maryland
i assumed this bc you said howard county + tornado my sister just called me from there bc she heard there was a tornado warning for her area, which isn't necessarily true. apparently it's only for parts of virginia. i know what tornadoes are like, they're scary. and as fast as they go through a place, those minutes feel really long. |
 ROFL! I love the lightning part! XDDD
I'm TERRIFIED of everything! D< Hurricanes, severe thunderstorms, tornados, Tsunamis, Earthquakes, EEVEEERYYYTHIIING!!! D8< |
I can't stand for Kansas for a variety of reasons, one of them being the damned tornadoes. We had at least two a year every year of my life until we moved.
You never really get used to them, either. |
That depends on the person... I'm totally used to them ^.^; To the point of just plain ignoring them now... And I've only lived in MO (near the Kansas border though) for about 5 years...
I got used to floods in VA... brush fires in GA... Yeah... I've been made homeless enough time from natural disasters to just plain not care anymore ^.^; |
You're funny. :'D
But yeah. It's like how do people be so calm on TV when there are storms. It's like WE MIGHT DIE DON'T YOU CARE?! D< I loooooove it when it rains. Thunder? Doesn't bother me. Lightning? As long as I'm not outside. -thinks of when the lightning almost hit her- >____< Hail? Awesommmmmmmmmme. Hurricanes? Even though were in the south, we only get heavy wind/rain/exccessive tree falling down-ness, so it's all over pretty good. CAN be freaky though. Like Ivan. ;-; <//3 BUT tornados. I absoultely despise. They scare the heck out of me. Like sometimes when I get scared I have this tendancey to have to pee really bad like every 5 minutes. It's like I'm all nervous and it's rly weird. XD |
Yeah, the hurricanes are what I worry about. Tennessee really isn't that far from the coast line... don't shoot me for saying this, but I think we kinda need a hurricane right now. We've been in a horrendous drought.
|
ive never been in a tornado.
hurricanes are boring though. i like rain.unless it comes with thunder and lightning and i have to turn my computer off. XD |
I would just like to thank god for keeping me in Taiwan for now XD the only things we have here are typhoons~ which everyone here's use too~ XD and In a week I'll be back in Sunny California :D yay
If I was in your situation~ with the tornado and all~ I'd be crying my head off and hiding in my bed with alot of snacks and videogames :P |
