;o I hate it when you type something sarcastic and everyone ends up seeing it xD
|
I`ve heard of this too. :o
Comes from immigrants, or someone out of the country. xB I love America, everything has flaws and not everything is perfect. :3 At least it's better than Vietnam, where beating your child is a lesson & allowed. x_________x; :) I`m from out of the country, not born here, and a immigrant, and I love America. :O <3 |

Steve lives in Canada, but he doesn't hate Americans :|

I know not everyone does who isn't American, but this thread had a lot of people just saying how bad it was and how much they hate it. ^^; I'm sorry if you were insulted, it wasn't meant to insult anyone.
<w< |
I like American people. I used to live there for 7 years. I don't like however their newsbroadcasting program and government. I hated when I watched the american news when they said,"Let's all honor this one soldier who died and worked so hard for his country." And then they give a 3 hour special and they show you his family crying. It's sad but then again, they never do that when 3000 people in Iraq died or something. They say that number so fast and as if other country's people's lives weren't important or something. "3456 civilians died today due to a bomb sent off from an american jet..." and then right after the weather or something. It's ridiculous! Other people's lives are just as important! And they shouldn't be so biased on television!

BUUUUUT. Hell YES I'd rather have a salad. (OH NOES. AN AMERICAN WHO LIKES SALAD. WHAT HAS SCIENCE DONE?!) And while I can see the use of having firearms in some situations, I'd much rather have a home security system. Only time I'll get a gun is if I become a masked vigilante, or if zombies/hostile aliens come. Quote:

I have to agree with you, Alegretto.
^^; |
unfortuatly, 90% of my experience with americans has been negative...and for the most part, the ones that i have met/talked to dont know where saskatchewan is. its a province. in central canada..and i get: i dont know where that is. i can understand someone from a separate continant not knowing where that is, but we are right ABOVE the states (or next to them, however you want to think about it :) ) for the most part, i dont hate americans, but most of my experience have been negative. i have met quite a few that were nice, knowledgable and friendly. so no, i dont hate americans, think they are all stupid. i KNOW there are good people there, i just havnt had the pleasure of meeting them yet XD

lol, I'm American. I'm Chinese American though.
I'm going to visit China in December. I speak, and look like I'm chinese (that's because I am, lol). I wonder if I'm going to hear any remarks about america while I'm there? My lil sister on the other hand has an accent... so they will be able to tell she's from abroad. ^ ^; |

Any other opinions?
I have yet to hear from the ones that agreed with the other topic. |
Alot of it can be jealousy. United States is a country with alot of stuff. True that there are countries with more than us and we have downfalls, but alot countries hate us for stuff. The government right now isn't really helping the situation either. I am proud to be an American. Sometimes I am tired of the politicians but I truly am glad to be in this country.

I'm always a little bothered by the whole idea of the "American Dream". Basically, everyone here holding on to the saying ""ANYONE in American can become rich! Reach for the stars!" That's a great message and all but most people never become rich. If you have money, then you can make money. But a poor person working hard and making it big is rare. |
|
In all honesty, it kind of ticked me off when they made a big deal about us not having passports. x_x
I know our country is seen as rich, but only a few handful of people hold a vast amount of that wealth (not as bad as it was in the early 1900s, but its still like that), and theres nothing left for the rest of us. Since when is not having a passport a bad thing? o_o; As much as I'd love to travel to other continents, I love learning about new customs and countries and all that, we dont have the money to. Sure, I live in a somewhat upper-middle class house, but there are 5 people in the family, as well as several animals. The cost of living is constantly rising. Our AC was missing a part that caused us to have a 700+ dollar electric bill. Sure, we may LOOK like we're used to luxury, but we're not. We make enough to get by with paying for the house and the 5 people that live here. Thats how it is with most families, rich or poor. Not having a passport may or may not mean that theyre closed to other countries. It may mean that they just dont want to spend money on something that isnt a necessity. And about the stupid lawsuits? Those are only a SMALL number of lawsuits that have been given a vast amount of attention because of how.. stupid they are. Its not like everyone does things like that. In all honesty, I think the rest of the country laughs at them as much as people from other countries do. As for other claims, corruption is everywhere. Where there is government, there is corruption, no matter what country. It may not be as obvious or on as such a large scale as it is here, but its there. I do have to say, though, our news crews arent all honest and unbiased. There have been several cases in which minorities, mainly black people, were brutally murdered or raped and it got no media attention because the child involved wasnt blonde and blue-eyed. That tends to piss me off. I think this is filed under "corruption", though. |

I wonder less about the validity of the stereotypes (I know they aren't all too terribly true and wonder more about the influence of the stereotypes.
Why is it that these misconceptions influence people so much? In some countries, people go out of their way to act upon the stereotype that all Americans are fat, lazy, and rude. ...But why America? Wouldn't it be funny if people went out of their way to act upon the 'sissy, whiney' French stereotype? I think it'd be a case of bitter just-desserts...but it is unlikely to happen. Why? Because the French aren't in the limelight, per se. xP Not to be rude, and not to say that the French aren't important... But really, in an educated country there isn't a person who doesn't 'know' what or who the United States is in one way or another. We're famous for ruthlessly employing nuclear weaponry, for interloping upon foreign affairs to end conflict, et cetera. Do you think that if America was a quiet little country that sat off to one side and watched dispassionately it would be treated with the disdain that it is now? ...I don't think so. |
xD George Bush accidentally said the Queen was 200 years old.
He's a tard. But hey, this is America. Redneck White Trash Blue collar I do realize how lucky I am to live here, it's just sometimes, we run into stuff that we don't know or have a plan for getting out of. But doesn't everyone do that? |
I'm sorry, I don't get the passport thing. Why should I have a passport? I'm not leaving the country anytime soon. I'm a working college student when do I have the time to go out of the country? I can't make short trips to Canada or Mexico. I live in Kansas. Right in the middle of the States. It's a trip either way.
So why on Earth is that a big deal? Why is that something to use agaisnt me? On a side note, wtf is the big mac song? |
