It's 9/11 and nobody cares.

I went to school today expecting for some kind of reaction--anything.

No teachers or students mentioned it.

In all my classes I was the only person in red, white and blue.

When an announcement came over the intercom the only response was from a bo near me who said that we should get the day off.
9/11 isn't a holiday.
How could he really be so selfish?

During the momment of silence, our class was silent, but the people outside were not.

Does no one care anymore?
Some people believe it didn't happen
Or that Bush did it to frame the Muslims.

I can't even express humanity's stupidity.

I scored in the top 1-2% on an IQ test.
I don't consider myself brilliant.
Now, I understand how I scored so high.
It's not that I'm exceptional.
It is that humans as a species are stupid in majority.

You know what else I've noticed?
The people online are the most intelligent I ever meet.
I go to one of the top 10 schools in the country.

I clap for you my fellow Menes.
You are some of the most intelligent people around.

I personally thing it was the past and people should be getting over it. It's been 6 years.

Don't get me wrong, it was tragic.

None of my classmates even remember it, so it's not a big deal here. No one wanted to dress up because it was picture day, and not everyone's favorite outfit is red white and blue.

And we SHOULD get the day off.

DreamEmpress 09-11-2007 10:28 PM

Personally speaking people don't care because it is the way the world works. When it happened I didn't care and it is not because I am a cruel person or because I am not from America but because people act as if it was a "shocking" event. As if everyone in the world LOVES AMERICA and acts as if we are the only nation that should be loved and looked at as a "good" nation. At that moment I knew something bad will come out of it and I knew people will treat a particular race like it is evil. I knew horrible things would happen and know today we are stuck in a war because of ignorance and misunderstanding of an entire culture.

Things happen and it is sad but do we need to dwell on it and be sad all over again? In the next hundred years people would either be extinct or have forgotten about it. This is not the end all, be all of the world and how we should view it. People should care but I just can't help but think of all the situations that are ten times worse and people ignoring them.

Sanctuary 09-11-2007 10:29 PM

I don't think that people who have lost love ones would feel the same.

It started a war that took family members away from me . . .

There is no nationalism any more.
No one likes the United States, not even the United states.

Six years is not a long time and it was a lot of people.
No one cares about people they don't know.
Why should they?
People are selfish.

I do not agree about a day off.
It is not something to celebrate.
I wouldn't want people looking forward to that day as a break.

aeroshaker 09-11-2007 10:32 PM

I think it is a bit shocking how fast we actually do forget things...I mean I even didn't realize what today was till I came across this thread. *feels bad bout that.* I don't think we shoul forget to take a moment to remember today...even if time has passed since the event, there are other events that have happened in the past that we remember and honor, so why not this?

Flying Wings 09-11-2007 10:38 PM

At our school, everyone talked about 9/11. ^^ Well..Just the news and the History Subsitute, but oh well. x3

I think that people shouldn't ignore it, just because of 9/11 we basically lost very two buildings, MANY people who didn't deserve to die, and a whole lot more. If it was that important for people to notice it, then we shouldn't ignore it..

GeminiKizzy 09-11-2007 10:39 PM

I think that people still care but we just don't make as big of a deal over it. We remember but since we are still at war it's hard to rally around just one day - the entire thing get tiring. Of course people still stop to think about those that died tragically but we also have to get on with our lives. If it bothers someone not to make such a big deal about the day than that person should volunteer with the red cross or sending letters and small gifts to the troops to cheer them up.

BTW - also my brother's birthday.

I didn't lose anyone, but I almost did. My dad was supposed to be at work there and overslept, and the towers were gone before he got up.

You can't live in the past forever. Sad, but true. Life goes on.

Steve the Garden Hose 09-11-2007 10:50 PM

  • Well, you can't blame people for not caring if it doesn't directly affect them. (Notice I said DIRECTLY, because any event influences everyone at some point)
    It's human nature, after all.
Greed, Jealousy, Hatred, It's all build in the human package.
You can't escape it, because all people feel those at some point, no matter how hard they try to be nice.

But I agree with you on the holiday thing. It shouldn't be a holiday. Holidays are to commemorate special events, not disasters. If every disaster had a holiday, there'd be only like... 3 weeks of school all together.

And I didn't even notice it was today....

Verucca 09-11-2007 10:56 PM

Sometimes you have to move forward in order to get back at the people who do horrible things to you. You have to go on and do well, that is the best retaliation.

I mean, does anyone still really think about the day that Pearl Harbor was bombed?? December 7th btw, in case you didn't know...or the day we let a nuke go on Hiroshima, August 6th? ( My birthday D: ) Time makes all things hurt less, and if you are not one of those who lost a family member in the towers then it takes less time.

Oh, in my opinion Sep 11th is a completely separate event from this war. It might have been a handy excuse but the people who sent planes at the world trade center ARE NOT those who we are fighting in Iraq.

Aeisha 09-11-2007 10:58 PM

I live in Australia and we still remember it though we don't talk about it, there is still stuff about it in the paper but now it is only one page.
I personally don't think it should be a public holiday mainly because other more tragic things are never recognized as holidays though a minute's silence is appropriate. but that is up to the individual schools to decide on.
In some cases people may not want to remember because September 11 was particularly tragic for them personally or their family.

I'm not entirely sure there ever was much nationalism. I don't see a whole lot in history to be proud of. And the times that get held up as times of idealism and grandeur... well... the past is romanticized. The lower classes have been oppressed as anywhere, and history doesn't show them--the majority of our population--displaying any kind of affection for the state.

9/11 was terrible. No more terrible than what's happening every day... all over. It's come to be a point for politicians to play off of. Now I can't remember what point I wanted to make with this.... sorry.

I'm sorry for your loss.

` Nitemare 09-11-2007 11:06 PM

9-11 never affected me and it never will.
People need to die.
Our population is going out of control.
In some ways, I'm glad that it happened.
Everyone needs to experience death in their life-time.

I know I'll get bitched at for saying what I've said.
But I hostly don't care.
End of
story.

That all depends on where in the united states you live. In the southern regions or the midwest there are still HUGE pockets of nationalism. I think people who make these kinds of statements have never had to deal with the hick conservative gun totting fundamentalist Christian's that make up about half of the country. Go spend a week in a mid size city in Texas, or NC or even in Eastern WA st, and then tell me there is no nationalism.

In fact if you ask me, part of our biggest problem is the fact that we have such abundant ignorant nationalism. We need to become a more understanding country.

Knerd 09-11-2007 11:14 PM

It isn't stupidity. Not at all.

The tragedy of 9/11 effected everyone differently. Therefore, everyone has learned to cope differently.
At this stage in the game, six years later, it's best to let the day pass by. If you don't draw attention to it, it won't hurt as much. You can deal with it quietly and privately without being constantly reminded throughout the day.

I live in New York, so my community is probably drastically different from where most other users live, but today went by with a kind of quiet respect. I saw very few people wearing red white & blue, and even fewer wearing all black or white. The date was never once mentioned. The subject didn't come up in class, among my friends, or in my phone call to my family. But that doesn't mean that everyone has forgotten. It simply isn't an event to be paraded. It isn't meant for nationalism or patriotism or support for the President - It's meant for personal reflection. I couldn't care less about "the country," but all day I've been thinking of the people.

That was rather rude.

However, it is entirely true.

Sad as it is, we live too long and reproduce too much. There's going to be no space on the planet eventually.

That is a fantastic point that I didn't think of. I remember my friends mom died and she I never really saw her react, and then I thought man she is kind of cold...but then I thought no wait, this is just her way of dealing, and that is perfectly reasonable.

Reverie 09-12-2007 12:00 AM

I go to a small school that doesn't really acknowledge significant dates in history, but I did think about it this of my own accord this morning. To think that a Canadian would put more thought into it than someone who actually lives in the country where the events of 9/11 took place... honestly, to me, it's a little shocking in a way.

Some people take the world they live in for granted, there's no doubt about that. It's unfortunate, because there are more people like that than the world can afford at this point in time. However, I can understand the reasoning behind saying that someone would try to ignore their own personal feelings, should they surface, in order to move on and live their life.

I go for the throat sometimes. :3

We need to cut down the population greatly or the people who live today won't have the necessary supplies to keep on surviving.
We need to have order on reproduction.
Almost like a communist way, you can only have a certain amount of kids.
(My two cents) And no stupid, mentally retarded people should ever have kids. Get those people
fixed!

keokotheshadowfang 09-12-2007 12:24 AM

During our minute of silence everyone was silent, I didn't think it was possible to get that many people to shut up. I don't want to think about it too much or else it'll get me drepressed.

Lmao. I'm reminded of my psychology teacher's "Save the Babies" speech. Basically ; you need to get a license to have kids. People with mental disorders or people who don't pass the 'stability' test would be unable to have kids. It would make it so that you had to really want to have a child ; and if one person in the relationship doesn't pass, then neither of you do.

There was a lot more detail to it, but I found the theory fascinating.

You do come across rather harsh; but at least your points are valid. The mentally handicapped are (in most cases) not able to properly care for their children.

They should make you take an intelligence test or something to have kids...

But I probably wouldn't be born if they had that *pokes father*

yencid 09-12-2007 12:31 AM

well i live in new york so mostly every one remembers this day...
tho to the school that i go most are latin (including myself)
so most of them where not even here...
some where but most wherent....

but its still pretty depressing at least for me....
and about that day off..
i also think we should have a day off....
not cus of school but because of the event in history....
tell me how/why they honor "heroes" in american history by
having it as a holiday but yet honoring all those lost life's
(from the victims both OF the plane crash and the rescuers....)
also did you know that the white house has not done
cleanup on the buildings nearby ground zero and that over
1.6k people have gotten sick because of the contamination after
9/11?

Flink 09-12-2007 12:38 AM

Flink agrees with those who say it's time to get past it. "Celebrating it" and mourning is only showing those who told the people to cause those crashes that they did what they wanted to do. They wanted to wound the US, and they do wound the US every single year when people cry and mope about because of something six years ago..

But the worst thing is places like where Flink works. They used it as an excuse to charge businesses money with the saying of, "Oh, but it's to HONOUR those who died. You'll have your logo, name, and phone number infront of an American Flag, with "Together we remember!"

That's worse than those people looking to use it as an excuse to get another day off. America has enough "holidays" and "remembrance days." If you don't have enough time off with that, you're really, really lazy. x.x Feel free to remember it, do so on the days by yourself, but don't expect the world to stop so you can sit on your butt and do nothing because you want to "mourn." Which, if it's a day off NO ONE will do. Most people will take it as another time to sit in front of the TV or computer and veg out.
