ABJD Hangout for owners and lovers

That's right a place for those of us who love ball jointed dolls to hang out, post pictures of our dolls and share the love.

Rules.
1. Respect all owners and dolls. I don't care what you think of a doll or a company you need to be respectful of it. You can say " it's not to my taste" or "I dislike that company" but there is to be no blatant flaming.
2. Have fun.

I love BJDs ;__;
Just the amount of skill and time that going into them, is amazing.

I don't own one because I'm poor but I've always admired the Ducan by DOD.
He was so pretty ;___;

ladyumbra 09-13-2007 09:54 PM

They are expensive but so worth it. All the DOD dolls are so nice. My fiancee wants a Petsha. Will you ever save up for one? It took me months to get my DZ Fei and I loved him then fell out of love and sold the body but kept the head. I still rp the char he represents and someday he'll have a body again.

patchy 09-13-2007 10:04 PM

Petsha is also another really nice one :O I might save up for a BJD some day but for now I have no way to purchase one. I love the premade ones but I think for my first doll I'd want to make from scratch. Maybe when I'm in college I'll attempt it :3 I'm going to be going for fashion design so when I learn how to better sew and such I'd like to try my hand at making my own clothes and all :O I've heard of people also painting the makeup by hand but I'd be afraid to do that XD

I'm not much for the super cute dolls, I like the frighteningly realistic ones XD
I think when I make one I'm gunna get a male :O I'd like to get one with more tanned skin but I haven't seen too many that weren't straight up white XD

ladyumbra 09-13-2007 10:13 PM

Mm Customs. I've love a volks custom if only for all the choices they have.
Og course I'd rather have a Bishounen house boy, very realistic and apparently Donn works very closely with you to get just the doll you want. He was at Anime north this year and I saw his booth but missed his lecture.

I've learned I am not very good at doing faceups and would have to leave that up to friends or get a custom one. I can design one no problem I just can't put one on very well.

I don't trust the tanned dolls since they tend to have the most problems with them. That and no company has a tanned shade I like yet.

I hope you do get one someday and I'd love to see the clothes you design. I can't imagine working that small.

Some Random Randomness 09-13-2007 10:20 PM

I love them. Just how they look is amazing.

More of a piece of art than a doll imo.

But as I'm poor, I have to make due with Bratz. ><

patchy 09-13-2007 10:28 PM

Ah, yes, I've seen some pictures of his work before :O
They're very beautiful but I'm not fond of the faces some times.
It's hard to describe ^^;;

Too bad about the tanned skin though ;__; I have some odd fascination with tanned skin. I think it comes from being deathly pale myself XD No joke, I think if you compared my skin tone to some of the BJDs there wouldn't be much difference aside from that I have a very obvious pink undertone.

ladyumbra 09-14-2007 03:20 AM

He's been making some new faces and a new body, I'm waiting for a very smooth style face to show up. Some models are almost what I want but not quite.

I like I think one tanned skin doll ( cori something I think) but I don't like the doll so much as the shade of tan she ish. I almost want a tanning Lishe but luts is just so iffy these days.

My DZ normal skin is the same shade of pink as my walls. it's very odd.

Hehe someday you'll have to get pics of yourself arm to arm with a beauty white doll.

this reminds me of the abjd contest i just joined at GAIA.XD

they were all very cute dolls neh

ladyumbra 09-14-2007 07:38 PM

I saw that contest back before I really understood the dolls and I was so confused. I love them now though, switching wigs and eyes and makeup is a blast *pets nearby Tavis' head* Poor things had ever faceup under the son and multiple wigs and is now bodyless for the time being.

I feel this warrants it's own post

Cute ;__;

So, how are you on this fine day, Umbra-chan? :D

ladyumbra 09-19-2007 04:20 AM

Thanks, I need to get better pictures of him. He also needs pants.

I'm well and you patchy-san?

Chexala 09-19-2007 05:17 AM

Oh, I love ball jointed dolls. So lovely.

I also don't have money for one (got a computer instead) and lovely though they are, I wonder how much I would interact with one if I did have one. I've had dolls all my life, but I don't play with them anymore. Plus, I don't have time/money to makebuy clothes for them, soooo… I don't think I could bear it to have one that just sat on a shelf. T__T

Then again, I still play pokemon and The Sims, so maybe I would play with one. I dunno. Maybe I'll save for one someday.

Pearl 09-19-2007 06:26 AM

  • I know their price tags are mind-blowing and they're more pieces of art than dolls or toys, but I still think it's ... odd... to own a doll collection.

ladyumbra 09-20-2007 03:17 AM

They can be expensive but it's worth it and many of the dolls aren't insanely expensive these days. Infact there of plenty of models in all sizes available for under 300$

I think of them as representations of characters as well as a fun project. i can buy my boy a new wig, swap his eyes for different colours and bam a new char is born. If I felt capable enough i could wipe his faceup and create my won makeup for him.

BJ Dolls are at worst pretty to look a and at best an amazingly interactive toy.

  • I love BJDs, but the price tag is a little steep for me. And my boyfriend thinks they're creepy... I just admire the ones my friends have. <3

    I don't have a specific favourite mold, because aside from seeing how pretty they are, I know very little about brands etc.

    I think BJD are pretty, and I love the jointing, it's a little creepy to some people which is why I think I like them. The face molds are especially beautiful, usually, and I like the idea of changing out the eyes.

    I wish I had one. ;_;

  • Leilia, she's absolutely beautiful! Where did you get her outfits? She's got a gorgeous face-up, and I love her wigs. <3

ladyumbra 09-27-2007 02:24 AM

Your Vera is way too adorable, gotta say I like the purple wig best.

indigoat they may be pricey but prices for good quality ones are still dropping. Within a year or so about 100$ good quality ones should be avilable. course clothes and eyes and wigs will still cost a mint but it in't meant to be a cheap hobby.

indigoat 09-27-2007 02:30 AM

  • @ladyumbra: I'd love to save a little bit and get some lovely dollies (even just one) but the main thing besides money is my boyfriend being a sissy about them. -_- I can't even look at doll posts on journals or sites without him whining about it.

    If the doll body is cheaper, I could splurge a little on eyes and wigs, though, because I could sew the clothes myself, and make jewelry and other accessories. ^^ Being a craft!whore comes in handy in that sort of instance. :D

The first one is from Volks. The second one was cheaper but its made by SugarMag.

I agree with the price of BJDs going down but so is the quality. I know there are Volks elitists out there. Now that I own one..well part of one. I can tell. They have a consistency like no other. I found out the reason is that they dont use polyurethane or french resin. it's like a mixture of both, which gives the resin that special quality.

I hope to have some clothes for sale at the Volks Dolpa. I need to ask my friend to see if i can split a table with her.

My bf is waiting to get his own doll. He's gonna get an Elfdoll Red and name him Yuushi. Kunt is half his since he's gonna splurge on her body when we find a SD13 body 2nd hand.
