Skipping Class
I'm thinking about doing it....... You get everything in the book that you get from class, and there's a good chance that I'll actually fall asleep if I go.
How frequently do you skip class? Never? Often? (Even if you don't go to classes anymore..... Did you used to? Would you now? Do you teach a class that people skip? What's you're opinion?) Last year, I got stuck skipping my English class part of the time....... If you were a MINUTE LATE she wouldn't let you in. She got very literal with clocks. So if you had to stop and get gas? You weren't getting there. If there was traffic? You weren't getting there. If you were dependent upon someone else for a ride and THEY weren't ready--you weren't getting there. Sucked. So, what's your opinion on the matter? Got any strange and wacky stories about skipping class? |

 I'm glad they haven't done that here. I didn't skip lessons in high school (even though I probably should've; the Spanish teacher could've graded her OWN assignments! :o ) I haven't faked being ill, I don't think...... One time my mom called me in sick because I'd been up really late the night before doing something, but that's it..........

I skipped a lot of secondary school...
Gonna make sure not to go down that road in college. |
As long as you keep up with the work I don’t see the problem with skipping class. I used to do it all the time in high school, however with my vet classes and my communications class I couldn’t skip class because most the work was hands out in class work.
|
Ah. That's more or less what I've always thought. :D (Whenever I asked a teacher if I could miss their class for extra work in something else, though....... They tended to flip out. Only the BAD teachers, I noticed; i.e. the ones where it didn't really matter if you were there or not.)

Class.
That sounds like one of my teachers this semester where if you're too late you can't come to class at all. I wish teachers wouldn't do things like that, sometimes stuff happens that people have no control over. I'm rarely very late to class but I have had things happen, like accidents blocking the road on the way to school and having to go a different way, making me way later. Luckily these things happened when I had a nice teacher who didn't say anything if I came in late, and I explained what happened. As for skipping class, I'm thinking about skipping one of my classes because it's on Halloween night... Unfortunately, that class is a once a week class so skipping it means I may miss a lot of stuff. But the timing of it is horrible and I want to maybe hang out with my friend that night. I love Halloween and don't wanna miss it for a class. x_x Even though I'm old enough that I don't go trick or treating anymore I still like to dress up and stuff and my friend might be going to some party thing or something. So I'm debating skipping that class. Hoping there won't be a test that day. @[email protected]; It's a really long class too so it's not like I can hope to get out in time to actually do anything, unless she lets us out real early.

I'd have to be deathly ill in order to skip class.
Take today for example: I've been sick all week, as well as a bit depressed because of personal matters. This morning, I had crew water practice at 5 am, which meant that I needed to get up even earlier in order to get there in time. By the time my first class rolled around, I had already been awake (and active) for about six hours. It was my dearest wish to just go back to my dorm room and nap, but I stuck it out through not one, by two of my classes. I've got a short break now and then I'll head on over to my last class of the day. (With a little coffee by my side.) |
That sucks.... Hopefully the professor's cool with it? Maybe she'll let out early specifically for Halloween....... (It's unlikely, but possible.)
@Knerd: If the classes were worth it/I couldn't make them up somehow, then I'd go. If they weren't...... That's one of the times when I would skip. Another example: Last semester I had a professor who took up the first half of class to cover everything--right down to the lecture and the powerpoints, usually in almost the exact same words--that he had done the day before. If you went, you were bored out of your mind for about an hour--maybe even an hour and a half. This was in the early morning--in the middle of summer. I got to the point where if I was really tired for some reason, I'd just skip; you weren't missing ANYTHING that you couldn't make up later. |

XD That's actually funny, because most college students who I know care more about Halloween then a lot of kids....... Or at least as much about it.

well I skipped a lot of classes since i went to kindergarten xD no, really I did. thing is, in my country they are not so strict with that specially in low resources public schools where even the teachers skips classes so you get a big announcement at the door that says Class 6th A wont have classes due to.....and then you go home again back to sleep xD
and in secondary i used to go on my own and go back on my own so sometimes i just didnt show up and stayed at the arcades /mcdonald's yeah not the best example, but you have to take into account that our schools are not yours and the quality of everything is not what it was suposed to be Now I am a teacher of English myself (yeah after skipping so many classes i made it hehe) and I dont mind people skipping classes cause I consider it is up to them if they want to be there or not, actually not many ppl skip my classes luckily they enjoy it, that is the feedback I normally have, though I would worry if I had a good student skipping my class because he or she might have been having problems at home or something so I would try to go talk to him/her. |
ive only done it a few times.. Like, once.
I felt sick, and the dust in the ceramics room makes it even worse. So I was in the bathroom. D: Ive faked sick before as well, but only because I was really stressed out and I wanted to finish things. >_< |
That's awesome; you skip and then you get to teach......
And, yeah--I know that the teachers can only skip so many classes. (In our old high school system, though, your sick days accumulated year after year.... When my grandfather retired, he could've actually taken off about three or four months early and just used those up. XD ) The high school that I went to was also very low-quality; that probably entered into my disdain for "daily attendance". (Our choir director couldn't control the class--a ton of them were actually missing half the time and he didn't know until a substitute came in and found out, the Spanish teacher preached more than anything, and a speech/world history/U.S. history teacher ran movies that had nothing to do with the class and then fell asleep in the back of the room..... Those were the worst, but there were a few others.) |

yep which is why i have never skipped class either, though i have been very very very tempted to recently D: |
I said I wasnt a good example I just say that for me it wasnt that terrible since the school quality sucked and so we didnt really learn anything, both my parents are teachers and sometimes they even allowed me to skip cause they knew about it but couldnt do anything cause they had no money to sent me to a better palce, though they taught me many things at home wich made my education even better than my poor classmates
|
SKipping class isnt worth it hun if you get caught its bad on your record and you will get in trouble just go through the day and it will be fine besides what is thirty mineuts to being grounded for a week?
|
I only skipped class once. Junior class was going to a college fair, but I didn't want to AND I didn't turn in a permission slip for the very purpose. One teacher got mad at me and forged one for me. I didn't go, I stayed in the 4th floor Girl's Bathroom until everyone came back.
I faked being sick once to get sent home early because I forgot to do homework once too. I was so proud of myself too. XD |
I skipped a lot of classes the first two years of high school.
The school I was in at the time had so many students that they never knew where everyone was, and they were very very badly organised. We had a stupid schedule that alternated everyday, one day we'd have Chemistry over on one side of the school, and the next day Biology on the other side of the campus. I ended up getting completely mixed up about where the heck I was supposed to be, I just went to two different Bio classes and didn't bother finding where Chemistry was supposed to be o_o Then History, that teacher was scary as hell. I went there the first day and he was just pure evil. I walked in the class a minute late (first day, not knowing where the hell I was going and all) and he made some really rude comment to me, so I just said "I'm sorry I think I'm in the wrong classroom" and walked out. Didn't go back to his class that year. You'd think someone would have noticed and 'made' me go or something, but they never bothered, and I wasn't going to tell them. They were so badly organized that they gave me credits for all my 10th grade classes, even though I only went to one of my 8 final exams, thus technically failing the other 7 classes (as the exam was 50% of the grade). I was expecting to have to repeat 10th grade at the new school I went to, but when they got my transcripts sent over, they just put me straight in to 11th grade  |
Wow Ebil, the system really screwed you over. At least you didn't have to repeat 10th grade. ^_^
|
@trinitydoll: It was a half-joke........ Also, everybody wants me to be a teacher....... It wouldn't work. I'd yell at the students too much.
Yeah, they don't care here. You don't show up, it's your grade. (My history professors is one of the few who says that you don't get a grade for participation; you could miss a quiz but it's your choice. So, yeah... It's not that bad. He gives quizzes on Thursdays. Hour and a half in the sweatbox just didn't sound fun.) |
When I was in school I never skipped class. Depending on the level a lot of instructors will use material from their lectures in the tests instead of whats strickly in the book. Aside from the fact that the majority of instructors also factor in attendance to your final grade. Its not really worth it to me, but then again I think too practically most of the time. ^^;
|
I only skip class if the class i was skipping was an elective like art. I never skip core classes. I always ditch to go to the music room. I'd rather play guitar than sit and draw.
|

I'm usually never late to class. I don't want to skip a class. That would be too much work to catch up on. I try to leave so early that if anything happened like traffic or something, I wouldn't be late. I don't want to miss college classes because not everything we need to know for an exam is in the book. It's mostly based off the notes from the lecture.
