Am I really crazy for wanting to knit?
Actually i find it real cool i don't know any guy that knows or whats to know how to knit.
People say knitting if for old women that don't have anything else to do but that a LIE!
Have you taught yourself anything?
I taught my self how to draw >>
I though my self how tooo play the piano
I ALSO TAUGHT my self to well..do alot of other stuff xD

Yes i do knit and i am knitting a scarf for my boyfriend.

I'd say it's completly normal for a guy to knit. Why not? It's just a hobby for your spare time. My omi tried to teach me to knit. It wasn't a pretty piece when I was done with it. I'm not very good myself.

Well, actually (and this might interest Muggles up there too) I found patterns for Harry Potter scarves, but I need the right kind of yarn and needles before I can try them. Seem pretty easy though.

  • It's more like you need a certain size of needles for different types of fabric. larger needles create bigger holes and therefore both use up less yarn and also make the thing work up bigger. But then again, it's not as tight of a pattern at that time. Really small needles are what you'd see for things like really intricate lace. So pretty much you can decide how large your standard stitches will be (as in, the ones you're normally using; does not count the ones you can create to be larger) and also the quality of the fabric. Quality meaning how stiff, loose, etc it will be. :3

I see. I am using worsted(sp, I think thats how it's spelt, but I could be wrong.) And I am using small needles, the scarf I am making has very tight stitching.

Hey knitting leads to hours of entertainment... I taught myself, and I don't see anything wrong with a guy wanting to do it.

I can only knit scarves thus far, I want to learn how to do hats, but that will have to wait for awhile. XD

What size are you using? It should say on the top of the needles. I try to stick to a 9us/5.5mm for scarves, but using a 10.5us/6.5mm works well too. I noticed if you use smaller needles for scarves they kinda of deform... That's probably because I do tight stitches too...

You know, when I was younger I use to knit.
I made some awesome quilts and a door sign for my parents.

That was the old days, the fun days, now life grew up along with me.

Yeah, actually the instructions call for circular needles. I don't remmeber what size I need, but it happens to be one that the local drug store doesn't carry at the moment though I could probably have them ordered.

I believe I am using 3.5mm >> I like the way the stitches are coming so I doubt I will change.

And I believe I have see some circular needles, I was kind of confused by them though..>>

Gender bias for certain activities are stupid. I think it's cool that you taught yourself to knit. I want to learn to knit and crochet, I think it would be fun.

I would say it's a good thing for a guy to know how to sew. It means you don't have to depend on a girlfriend or mommy to fix your clothes when a button pops off or a pocket gets a tear.

I think it's cool if a guy knows how to knit.

I myself tried to learn how to crochet but I sucked really bad. I don't have good enough coordination between my hands or something. 8)

wow, that's actually really awesome. I've been meaning to learn to knit for ages, but I've never got round to it. I used to knit when I was little, but I stopped, and I've forgotten how now.... :cry:
