Are you smarter than a 5th Grader? NOPE!!

Oh my gawd, i was just watching this show and the contestant first spelled vowel like this "V-O-U-L".
THEN, when asked how many demonstrative adjs. were in a sentence she kept pronouncing it dem-MONSTER-tive.
She had no idea what the word meant or how to say it.
Please tell me you're smarter than a 5th grader so I know there's hope left for the human race? lol
& do you watch this show? Love it? Hate?

Poop 10-12-2007 01:07 AM

Im sometimes dumber then a 5th grader but i can be smart sometime when i try :D

Zan 10-12-2007 01:51 AM

That's the best trivia show I've seen on television.

I get 99% of the questions right... but my parents, on the other hand, usually get none of the questions right. It's probably because the curriculum has changed over the past thirty-or-so years for fifth graders.

Psyduck 10-12-2007 04:38 AM

I watched a handful of the episodes from the first season back in the spring, and I honestly felt that the show had to be rigged in some way. Some of the questions were too easy and the contestants could've easily answered the questions.

Though I've seen two episodes this season and it seems the answers are 3x harder than last season so maybe that's a strike against what I said about it being rigged and maybe these people just honestly aren't smarter than fifth graders.

ElementAngel981 10-12-2007 04:58 AM

I was watching that with a friend the other night and when that guy that worked at movie world said that bread was mainly made out of yeast, he laughed so hard it was sad

` v - c h a n n. 10-12-2007 11:46 AM

Yeah! I've seen an episode of that show! It's not baad but I wouldn't exactly sit there every wednesday night just to watch it. I guess the show doesn't really appeal to me. > . <

Ah. Looking at the questions, I think I am DUMBER ( ; A ; ) then a fifth grader. > 3 < ah, I feel stupid but then again I've been studying overseas in a country that speak mandarin and malay for most of primary school years... > 3 <;;

xx__yasmine 10-12-2007 11:50 AM

OH I'm am smarter than a fifth grader. I get most of the questions right...but not all...

Ariel 10-12-2007 12:34 PM

I've seen a few episodes of that show. Personally, I'd be to embarrassed/shy to participate in a game show like that one.

Admonish Misconstruction 10-12-2007 02:11 PM

Nope, never watched the show, never really had a want to you know? I just don't get it really, whats so great about it. I might end up watching it someday to see a forty year old man be stupider then a fifth grader.

Some Random Randomness 10-12-2007 03:25 PM

That show really annoys me. I feel like I should go up to random adults and yell at them for being stupid.

I can't believe we've gotten to the point in life were we have to offer a million dollars to any one who can be smarter than a 5th grader.

secretdae007 10-12-2007 03:57 PM

Usually I can answer most of the questions on that show... Save for maybe some geography questions. My schooling never emphasized geography outside of the States, so I've always been sketchy in that area.

Uzura 10-12-2007 04:22 PM

I remember one art question they asked. It was something like:

"Which one of these colors is a primary color?
A. Green
B. Red
C. Orange"

And the person just didn't know! I was rolling on the couch in agony. Are primary colors really that hard to recall?
Though I will admit that some of those questions do stump me. Mostly Science and History questions. They never were my strong subjects ^^;

V!rtual Insanity 10-12-2007 04:44 PM

Well I'm probably not, but I'm still smarter than the idiots they have on there. Which isn't saying much, cause migod are these people dumb.

Rally 10-12-2007 04:47 PM

No. xD I'm not smarter. I can't remember a single thing I've learned throughout school. (Makes me wonder if I was even taught anything....)

Kami Swiftsong 10-12-2007 06:46 PM

Well, you have to remember that these kids JUST learned what the questions were over, while the adults have gone through the rest of grade school, high school, and often college as well, learning other things that corresponded to what profession they have. I mean, if the adults had studied that stuff as recently as the fifth graders had, then the producers wouldn't really have a show. :\

But then again, I've never seen the show, that's just my feeling toward it. XDD

Solitare 10-12-2007 07:23 PM

LOL! I totally love that show! It amazes me that most of the kids on it know more than the adults. It's almost scary! I wouldn't say I'm smarter, but I'm confident I'm as smart ;) I do quite well when I answer the questions :D

Shrimp_Man 10-13-2007 05:17 AM

I've never seen the show but I can remember watching Who Wants to be a Millionaire one time and the person could not remember who Quasimodo from Hunchback of Notre Dame was. I think I nearly had a heart attack when she used up two lifelines on the question.

[linden_ANBU_dragon] 10-13-2007 06:12 AM

I think I'm smarter than a fifth grader, but I have my bad days. >.<
But WOW. I found that my parents couldn't help me with my homework much in grade school, but I figured they had better stuff to do than learn the capital of Gambia.
The contestants on this show, on the other hand, have NO excuse WHATSOEVER.
At least they can gain some fame in their poor, sad little lives. T_T

Shrimp-
I don't remember that either, I haven't watched that movie since I was like six.
Then again, I'm not planing on going on a game show anytime soon.

Well, it's just that one lifeline I can understand, it just kills me that she used two. Especially since I think the first one she used was the poll the audience one and it was overwhelmingly Quasimodo. Then she used another lifeline.

Kuro_ichigo 10-13-2007 06:52 AM

Dude those questions are hard!
xD Yeah I fail at life.. I know xD

pinkstar 10-13-2007 06:55 PM

A TEACHER FROM MY SCHOOL SAID SHE WANTS TO GO ON THAT SHOW!

I remember that episode, my grandmother and I were watching it. we laughed so hard I had to go to the bathroom XD it might be rigged though, he had a weird look on his face, the show is possible just a comedy show? anyways it might also be real, people back in the old days never really learned all that useless stuff, now a days teachers have nothing better to do than bore us with information we do not need, just last week my english teacher had an emotional breakdown and told the class that what we were learning was not goin to help us, so she quit her job and left teh country O_O

Aylar 10-13-2007 10:11 PM

That television show saddens me on how many people don't do well on that show. Of course they probably pick people for the show that would make the show funny. Some people would not watch it if people did not do well. Some people don't find it amusing if they don't see people who are supposed to be "smart" failing.
