[Artist Trading Cards] Exchange Post

Under urging from Whitebeast, I'm opening this thread hangout for people interested in trading Artist Trading Cards. :)

= For more discussion on Artist Trading Cards, CLICK HERE to go to the thread about them in Art Discussions! =

[What Are Artist Trading Cards?]
Artist trading cards are works of art that measure 2.5 x 3.5 inches (64x89mm).

That is the only rule.

They can be everything from illustrations on cardstock, watercolors on watercolor paper, origami folded paper in the proper dimensions - even stained glass and clay! Anything goes, as long as it's the proper size and it's your artwork! :)

Please note that ATCs are different from "ACEOs" (Art Card Editions and Originals) in that "ACEOs" are meant to be sold, rather than traded. But this group is for ATCs, not ACEOs! Obviously. XD

[About trading the cards]
This thread is for you to post cards that you're interested in trading with other users of Menewsha. I'm not calling myself this groups "moderator", exactly - but I do ask that if you trade a card and it's no longer avaliable, you edit your post saying that the card has been traded!

Please post scans of the cards you are interested in trading. If you have anything in particular you're interested for (ie: "I'm looking for cards with unicorns or zebras on them!" or "I really like the color blue, so if you have blue cards I'd like to see them!"), please make a note about it.

If you see a card that you want, please PM the artist of the card to ask about the trade and arrange the details out-of-thread to keep down on the clutter!

If you're interested in exchanging custom-work with other users (including drawing each others' avatars or original characters) you can also make a note of that.

[Etiquette]
It is considered courteous to do the following....
- Send the card(s) within a few days of agreeing to the exchange.
- If you will be delayed in sending the cards, you let the other person in the trade know it will take awhile.
- If you live in a different country from the person you're trading with, it's good to let them know up-front so everyone understands that postage will be a bit more expensive! (If you are sending a card to another country, you will probably wish to take the letter to your post office and let them apply postage.)

[Other Notes]
No one has to trade with you. Posting the cards avaliable here does not force them to observe "first come, first serve" unless they say up front that's how they'll do a trade. If someone turns you down for a trade, it doesn't mean you're a bad artist - they might just not be interested in the particular cards you have to offer at the moment. So just keep making cards and you'll eventually get excellent trades. :)

[Deadbeat List]
Please let this list stay empty!
This is a list of users who were sent cards, but never sent out their exchange cards.
Before saying that a user is a deadbeat, please give the person the benefit of the doubt. Mail can be very slow and very occasionally, it gets lost.
To avoid being on this list, do not agree to a trade if you're not actually going to send your half. Be certain when you address the envelope when you send the card, you are writing down the information clearly and applying the correct amount of postage.

[WARNING]
Please be aware that by trading cards, you will be exchanging your home address with another user. I seriously recommend that if you are a minor, you get your parent/guardian's permission to give out your address. If possible, I suggest getting a post office box or using something like campus address or asking permission from an older friend or relative to use theirs.

Please use extreme caution when exchanging home addresses!

----------

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask in this thread or by PM! Thank you!

>.>

I'm going to start drawing and making but I don't know by what prompts to start with.

Can I be random and just do what I'd like then show them up here? xD

CK 10-15-2007 11:36 PM

By all means - please feel free to post utterly random cards. :D As long as they are 2.5 x 3.5 (or 3.5 x 2.5, I suppose. XD) they're ATCs and appropriate. :D

I'll post sometime either later today or tomorrow with some card offerings of my own. :)

KatScratches 10-16-2007 01:42 AM

Wow!!

That sounds really interesting! I think I might get started on one pretty soon! ^0^

EDITED THIS POST:

No one contacted me about any of these cards, so I'm retracting my offer to trade (for now, at least). Several of them have been claimed at IllustratedATCs.com anyway. :) If you're interested in trading with me in the future (and this includes personalized trades) - please look into IllustratedATCS.com and try to join. :) Thanks!

Notes:
- I am most interested in a multi-card trade. (Two cards for two cards, three cards for three cards; etc .)

- I have no problem shipping overseas. (I live in the USA.) Just let me know in advance if you are from overseas! :)

- I am a bit particular about what I trade for. Please have scans of cards you have avaliable for trade prepared. If you don't have any ATCs already made, please link me to examples of your artwork (a gallery, by preference!) so I can request something specific. :)

- If I decide I'm not interested in a trade with you, it's not because I don't like you or I think you suck - it's because you don't have anything that really speaks to me at the moment. I would really love it if you kept me in mind for the future - so please keep working on cards!

My Interests:
These are card themes I enjoy collecting. Doing a card in one of these themes does not guarantee you a trade - however, it may increase your chances. ;D

- Asian themes (mythology, costumes, architecture, food, geisha/maiko/geiko; etc). (I don't just like Japan - I'm most fond of China and I like Korea, Vietnam, and other countries too!)
- Mythological creatures (dragons, kirin, foo-dogs, lucky-cats; etc.)
- Fairy tales (Snow White, Puss in Boots, Rapunzel; etc)
- Mythology (god, goddesses, elementals, spirits; etc).
- Elegant Gothic Lolitas (Or similar.)
- I also enjoy seeing cards that are examples of things you do well! (Some people are excellent at landscapes, or realistic drawings of flowers.)

I am not interested in anything made with stamps you didn't carve yourself or stickers. Thank you, though!

If you're not an artist, I do sell cards. Just PM me if you're interested.

i've seen this done before, neat for it to be available here. i may participate in this one :]

i think this thread should be re-named, the title right now is a little redundant xD

edit: maybe just leaving it as the artist trading cards thread

CK 10-16-2007 04:22 AM

XD Happy to rename for clarity - do you have any suggestions? (I don't find it redundant, though the word "trading" is in the title twice, I suppose it does look that way!)

EDIT: Changed the title - hopefully that'll help it stand out a little more, convey what this thread is for, and not look ridiculous and redundant. :D

Thanks for the suggestion!

Huh. What a wild idea. o_o Something like this would actually be really fun at a convention or something. Swap art cards with other people in artists alley.
I'll have to put some thought into this, maybe make some of my 'cartoons' into cards. It would be a fun way to get them out there since they're all one panel stuff.

CK 10-16-2007 07:13 PM

Nightgaunt - Actually - yes! The next time I go to a convention (probably either Anime-Expo or Dragon*Con, depending on finances and who of my friends are going), I'll be taking ATC prints and originals with me. Hopefully I'll have a table. And those ATCs are something I'll be trying to trade with other artists (and since not a huge number of artists have heard of them yet, I'll be taking blank cards with me too).

I know for certain there are people who enjoy comic-cards and they certainly interest me! :)

Nightgaunt 10-16-2007 10:20 PM

It seems like a great way to advertise, better for us than an business card. <3
And selling quickie prints would probably do as well as buttons. People tend to like stuff they can just drop a dollar or so on. *debating making some kind of template*

I have no cards at present, but you can check out my deviant art gallery if you want. Right Here. Because of the difference in screen names, anyone who's curious is welcome to PM my dev-account to confirm that I am the same person.

Bleeding[Hearts.Xanadu] 10-23-2007 02:47 AM

That sounds awesome, and exactly like the kind of art I enjoy having (small enough to be easily movable and fit into my tiny desk space, but big enough to be noticeable.)

Lightswitch Raves 10-24-2007 05:42 AM

I'm totally not following.
:]

Nightgaunt 10-24-2007 09:48 AM

I guess think kind of like trading cards, only they're made by artists, rather than having stuff like 'sports' related stuff. The artists make these little cards and then swap them with each other, and build a collection of other peoples 'trading cards'. It seems a good way to build a sort of social artist network, like handing out a business cards but more interesting.

CK 10-24-2007 10:10 AM

Nightgaunt has the idea. :)

In my first post is a link to a thread in Art Discussions that explains it a little better. And if you've any other questions about ATCs, it's probably best to ask them there, rather than this thread. :)

This particular thread is meant for people who have cards made and want to trade them with other users who make cards. Or, alternately, for users who make cards, but would like to offer to draw to spec. Ie: "I love cards with frogs on them. Anyone want to trade? You draw me a frog card and I'll draw for you of your favorite thing!"

That sort of thing. :)
