Lovely art! I love the first and the last one. : D Vectors tend to be flat, but I think you have executed it well in the first picture. It's simple and possess a nice sense of colors and composition. Love the simple palette in it - Black, pink, beige, dusky gray. You've definitely improved from the first art piece, as can be seen from the latest work. The gradients are simple but well-placed. My only complaint is the anatomy. The guy on the far right looks a little stiff because of his arms. You can probably push your artwork more if you incorporate ambient light, dynamic poses, perspectives and anatomy knowledge into your artwork. Hope to see more works from you soon!

Hongske 10-13-2007 11:43 AM

  • Thank you for the comment and the tips! Yeah, I know about his stiff arm but that's my own fault because I was too tired and lazy to draw his hand. I might edit the file some time but I doubt it.
What do you mean with ambient light, though? Anatomy and poses are something I'm working on, and like most budding artists I've got troubles with perspective (especially in backgrounds). However, I'm working on all that! I should think that being an art student helps that process a bit along.

I'll update this thread with new works as soon as I can get the scanner going. Don't understand what's wrong with it: The USB & power cable are both plugged in but it refuses to work. Bah.

Caeluma 10-13-2007 03:51 PM

ooo very nice! I like the first one in the first row and the first two in the second row best! They are all very cool nice work!

aonith 10-13-2007 04:16 PM

How wonderful! You know, you are really good at vector art. This is just something I would never be able to do -___-"
And by looking at these works it is very well seen how your art improves.
Okay, keep up the good work and good luck!

Lol, machinery are pesky little creatures. > x < I'm no good with them too, but my friend has an even worse time. Any automatic sensor she comes into contact with automatically goes haywire on her - she hates auto-flush toilets because of that.

Ambient light refers to the light cast by secondary light source. Mostly used in 3D work. For example, in a natural outdoor setting (sunny, with little cloud cover), the main source of light is the sun, but there is the sky light as well - this is the secondary light source. Skylight causes blue highlights on certain shadow areas of an object, if you get what I mean... Check out lighting tutorials if you want to learn more about them. : D

Wow! That is some amazing artwork you have there!

1st picture: I love how you do lineless and I love this picture for some reason. The girl in this picture is really pretty and her clothes match really well. Also, I love the background and hair color, it matches with everything else. I ABSOLUTELY love her blindfold (cause I'm weird). That scarf and how you can see folds even though it is lineless is really pretty also. You have a really good sense of anatomy. TEACH ME HOW TO DO LINELESS!!!1 <3

2nd picture: I don't like this one as much as the first one, but it's still really good for semi lineless. The face shape looks a bit off, but I absolutely (heh I use that word a lot) love that hair! It's so flowly and pretty. I also like his teeth. Lastly, I love how the dark stars look...it looks sort of 3D, which demonstrates that you know how to shade. :D

3rd picture: This one is okay. I like how good you are at lineless, but the lines in under the eyes kind of throws me off. Also, the legs look kinda funny, the way they look like they're bent outwards. I love the colors you used in it though, especially that necklace and I like that hand :D

4th picture: hehehehe...for some reason, this picture really reminds me of bratz...maybe its the lips. Anyways, I love the eyes in the picture and the way that it looks like she's staring off into the distance. I also like her body shape, how she looks really slender and your cell shading (it really matches). And of course, I have to say that I love the way you drew her hair. <3

5th and 6th picture: You are really good at shading and such! It amazes me! Not only do you dominate vector art, you also dominate traditional art! These drawings have a very nice color scheme and I love how you draw your hands.

Last pics: I really like your group pictures and I love their expressions. I liked how you used a gradient tool to shade and I love their poses! Lastly, I like how some parts of the picture are completely solid while others are shaded. It give your style this variety! :3

  • @ Caeluma: Thanks! Uhm... A question: Do you happen to be from Zantarni? Because your name sounds really familiar to me.

@ aonith: Thank you for the compliment, but don't undermind yourself like that. I thought I'd never be able to do it either, since it seemed so difficult in the beginning, but you get used to it after a while. I've worked with Illustrator for a bit more than a year now and it's much more fun than it was in the beginning.

@ tanhuitian: Well, normally the electronics don't malfunction around me, but they've all started going a bit haywire lately. And thank you for the explanation, I'll go look it up at DA's Artist Hospital, they probably have something on it there. Thanks for the tips again!

@ RoyalSquishy: I feel very flattered right now, so much nice comments about my works! Eh, the lineless? I just make a sketch and then use Illustrator to make a vector out of it. I'm not quite sure how I can explain it in a different way, but that's how I do it.

Peppermint 10-14-2007 03:05 PM

  • HOLY.

Wow! It is really nice! (i'm jealous! XD)
You are really good at coloring and your style is soo nice!

Hongske 10-14-2007 08:28 PM

  • @ Peppermint: Thanks for all the compliments! Man, I'm felling really good about my art now because everybody's giving me nice comments and constructive criticism!

@ Takuto: Thank you, I'm happy that you like my style. :]

On a different note: I'm trying to get my scanner to work, but thing refuses to work. So I'm not quite sure when I'll have my newest artsies up...

Peppermint 10-14-2007 08:30 PM

  • Yepp.
We're all here to cheer you on. :3
And it is accually really could.
Ever thought of doing a shop here on Mene?

    HUH? n.n

Hongske 10-14-2007 08:33 PM

  • Haha, I would but I suck at keeping shops open. Though I'm very much interested in opening a shop with someone else, co-owning one. I've never done so before (but I have had individual shops) and I imagine it's a lot more fun in the long run.

So if you happen to know anyone who'd like to join in with me...

LotusFlowers 10-14-2007 08:33 PM

Hongske 10-15-2007 07:23 AM

Hoho, artist hospital? I'm one of the staff members at the Gaia headquarters (though I'm on hiatus, somewhat). Mayshing is quite the teacher. :D There was a post in the Gaia thread about ambient light by Sporks, but I can't find it now. Hope you'll have better luck at the DA headquarters! Here's one about drawing in general, with some references to lighting:

http://www.itchstudios.com/psg/art_tut.htm

Hope that helps a little. : 3

Hongske 10-16-2007 05:17 PM

  • You are? Wicked! I found the Gaian Art Hospital at the same time as I did the DA one, but I figured trying out the DA one first because I get more online there than on Gaia.

Thanks for the tutorial link, I think I'll go print that all out!

Immortaleyes 10-16-2007 08:33 PM

Those are amazing vectors! You're quite an artist.

Hongske 10-22-2007 03:54 AM

  • Thank you!
    :]

On a different note... I updated my first post! Instead of using PhotoBucket's thumbnails, I just made my own because I like it better that way. And I added more stuff, too.

blind_phoenix 10-22-2007 05:49 AM

Very awsome! I love vector drawings, without lines. They always look so neat and natural.

Great art!

Hongske 10-30-2007 08:33 AM

  • Thank you for the compliments!

Updated the first post again, this time I added two wallpapers (sizes 1024x786 & 800x600). Feel free to utilize them, but only for your own personal use of course!

aonith 10-30-2007 08:58 AM

@Hongske, I see. Thanks ^^ I might give it another try in vector art. Hope it goes better than the previous time xD

Hongske 10-30-2007 09:12 AM

  • You're welcome! I hope to see some of your art soon. Don't hesitate to ask for help if you need any!

Caeluma 10-30-2007 10:14 AM

Hongske 10-30-2007 10:19 AM

  • Caeluma!
    -glomps-
How're things over at Zantarni? It's been a very long time since I went there but I pretty much lost interest after a while...
