Computer gender studies!

I found a humorous entry about computer gender. Check it out.

http://wilk4.com/humor/humorm13.htm

Reasons to believe computers are female:

1. No one but the Creator understands their internal logic.
2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else.
3. The message "Bad command or file name" is about as informative as, "If you don't know why I'm mad at you, then I'm certainly not going to tell you".
4. Even your smallest mistakes are stored in long-term memory for later retrieval.
5. Picky, picky, picky.
6. They hear what you say, but not what you mean.
7. Beauty is only shell deep.
8. When you ask what's wrong, they say "nothing"
9. Can produce incorrect results with alarming speed.
10. Always turning simple statements into big productions.
11. Smalltalk is important.
12. You do the same thing for years, and suddenly it's wrong.
13. They make you take the garbage out.
14. Miss a period and they go wild!!!
15. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.

However, another group of computer scientists (all female) think that computers should be referred to as if they were male. Their reasons follow:

Reasons to believe computers are male:

1. They have a lot of data, but are still clueless.
2. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they are the problem.
3. A better model is always just around the corner.
4. They look nice and shiny until you bring them home.
5. It is always necessary to have a backup.
6. As soon as you commit to one you realize that, if you had waited a little longer, you could have obtained a better model.
7. The best part of having either one is the games you can play.
8. In order to get their attention, you have to turn them on.
9. Big power surges knock them out for the rest of the night.
10. They'll do whatever you say if you push the right buttons.
11. Size does matter!
I think its pretty funny.
How bout you?

Discuss:
What you you think your computer's gender is?
Wouldn't it be interesting to assign gender behavior to your pc?
xD

  • Oh, my laptop's definitely a girl. I've named her Manabi-chan. She's very enthusiastic and always tries her best, even when she's completely clueless. X3 She also uses up her energy quickly then has to take a nap if I don't recharge her. ^w^

  • My computer must be a guy, He won't turn on now due to something that went wonky with him on our last power trip.

My mothers must be a female..

My computer is genderqueer, thank yeh!

My computer is probably a girl. She's bitchy, and when she gets annoyed at me she's slow as anything.
When she's made to do what she has no interest in (Use AIM or internet explorer) she does it half-assedly,makes sure it doesn't work, or makes life hell for the one trying to force her to do the task.
When she does choose to do something half-assedly, or begins to crash or freeze, you have to repeatedly remind her that you love her...
I swear, she doesn't fix whatever happens to be wrong until I say it.
I think she can hear me...
:ninja:

don't some ppl's computer 'talk'? I think I would assign my pc a guy's voice only because a woman's would definitely make me think my computer is 'evil'

Hehe, those lists are pretty amusing. They're stereotypes of course, but funny anyway.

My laptop is a guy, named Damien. My desktop seemed a girl at first, but now I think it's neither. A hermaphrodite. It's name is Sehmorra.

Damn, but we need language for more than two genders, and a singular, gender-unknown pronoun.

Edit: By the way, Clickmyname, I think you should put those lists into quotes, since you got them from another source.

Oh I love gender studies. I'll see if I can find you a link for a really good one. First things first, though.

I rather feel like my computer has a male personality. He naps all the time,he's tough (is currently running two internet windows with six tabs each, two IMs, six .pdf files, 2 word documents, Windows Vista, and Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator) but its really hard to peg why its male specifically. I don't know why. I think it was because the first time I booted it up it started making 'explode in three-two-one' chirps at me for about ten seconds. The first thing I ever said to my computer was 'Don't you make that noise at me, young man!' and I think it stuck. XP

Be sure to put things in quotes when you're copying from the internet. I went ahead and added them for you. ^^

Oh yay, I remember this list!
My MacBook is a girl, she is always hard working but when she is tired, she won't do anything for me. She's really petty and temperamental at times, but she's adorable all the same.

I lol'd, never thought if it like that before

scatterheart 10-14-2007 01:16 AM

Sounds like a bunch of stereotypical crap, to me. @[email protected]
