Racism. When will it end? {Personal}
This is about an experience of mine with Racism. Sorry if this topic has been done already but it IS discussing a personal experience of mine, so anyways here we go:
I'm nationally Japanese-Korean-Russian. I was born in America but went to Canada and was raised since really REALLY young. Ive been a dancer for a long time now, and was oart of DEF Dance Academy (It's a korean dance club) and just recently quit. I decided to join a dance competition with my friend, Felicia, who is Chinese. (She didn't go to DEF, shes just a good dancer.) So when we were at the revenue, we were the only asians there. (And if any of my wording insults you, please leave now, there isn't any other way to describe it, and I'm NOT being racist. I'm anti-racial.) So, while we were waiting in line, Felicia noticed that about 98% of the dancers were African-American, which was cool, until the point where one set of dancers actually came up to us and insulted us. I quoate: "damn dog-eating chinks! hahaha what are you going to dance like? oriental" and then they immitated the ancient chinese dance, or something. :/ We ignored them at first but then while we were dancing, I heard people laughing and making insults towards our ethinicity. Ever since, Felicia herself has been afraid and a bit rude when it comes to African-Americans, WHAT THE HELL? So just because someone insults you means their whole race should be discriminated? Also, I posted a video of myself dancing, and was forced to delete from hundreds of racial comments, such as: "Damn you asians trying to be black! Take your dog eating habits back to asia." I didn't know what they meant by "Dog Eating" until I searched it up on google. Apperantly, in Korea some people eat dog. America eats cow, but you dont see anyone calling them disgusting, do you? So why should you call anyone else disgusting for what their country does? I dare you to search up ANY video on youtube, and promise you; there will be more then one racial comment, even the video is a childrens video with no intention of sending out messages of race. So Discuss: Your views on Racism? Why do people do it? Have you ever been racist?! :O Experiences with racism and why it hurt you. Why would Felicia fear them just becuase of a couple of people? T_T What the HELL does Chinks mean? D:< P.S. I am NOT trying to sound racist, and if you think I am, then please explain to me in reason why you think so. :/ Anyways, yeah. STOP RACISM NOW. EVERY and I mean EVERY COUNTRY IS EQUAL. The world has its flaws! Don't blame someone else for them. (: |
My view on Racism : It's not good to be racist. After all there only one Human Race :Human , if they want to insult someone from another country , and become racist that mean there insulting there self because there only 1 human race :X ( that what my teacher said o.o )
2.Why do people do this ? Most of the time to proove that there better. 3.Have you ever been racist ? Never ! 4. Why would Felicicia fear them just because of a couple of before ? Maybe because that Felicia think that everyone one wouldact like those couple of people. 5. What the heck does chink mean? Definition of Chink >>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chink |
Woah, you must've earned a lot of gold on this O.o [I haven't really read that]
Anyway, I HATE racism! Racists are really stupid people! And they're unfair! Ghosh, now I'm so pissed off! |
@ Huggles:
Oh, thats deep. @[email protected];; "Only one human race...you're making fun of yourself." Awesome quoate. ;D *Researches the word* OH DAYUM. Thats what it means? I'm pissed now. D< @ Alt: Haha, Longer posts = more gold. ^^ I got 22 from it. :3 Racism is pathetic. Especially when you say it over the INTERNET! I mean c'mon, you wouldn't say that stuff face-to-face, it just proves your cowardly. xD |
I've dealt with racism my entire life and it has caused me to hold some grudges against people of a particular decent. I'm Hispanic and I grew up in rural Pennsylvania. Mostly inhabited by the Pennsylvania Dutch. I hated growing up a minority. I was rarely invited to birthday parties, and kids would shy away from me mysteriously after I would meet their parents. I had trouble with teachers not trusting me upon sight and singling me out in class... It's hell. And it still is.
Just last week I was bartending and a blind man and his buddy (who was not blind) come into the bar. It was nearly packed and they had trouble finding a pair of seats, but I knew of two down on the end so I said "there are two seats open down here" and I pointed so the man not holding the white cane could see. He of course nodded thank you and moved down. But these two young men started laughing and said "stupid spic". @[email protected] I asked them to repeat it and they laughed saying "sorry, but that was really dumb... pointing at a seat to a blind man." So I said "In case you assholes didn't notice, they aren't both blind. What did you expect them to drive here together hitting every pole on the way? Get out of my bar" This was just recent... there are many more stories that are much worse. And luckily I had some power in that situation. I love bartending because you can throw out any idiot. But most of the time I don't have any way of taking my frustration out on them and even once I was scared for my life, so it just boils and festers in my soul eventually coming out as the very thing I was treated with. Racism. It's an ugly cycle that only time and cruelty can create. I wish I knew how to stop it, even in my own heart I think your friend Felicia has fallen prey to that cycle. I think that sometimes being humiliated by a certain type of person even just once can have such a lasting affect that it changes your whole outlook. Hopefully she will see how dirty racism it is to have in your heart. I still have a lot of hatred towards certain people, but I try to let them change my mind... I give them a chance at least. So I'm working on it. @Alt: people around here tend to post a lot more then on other sites you may be accustomed to. It's a lot of fun if you give it a shot. Reading what people have to say is just as fun too. |
Racism is stupid, that's the end all beat all. It's just flat out stupid. Don't get mad if you can help it, pity those who judge people based on skin pigmentation and ancestry.
|
Racism will never end. No matter how much we want it to,there are always people who discriminate(sp?) other people. I also agree,it's pathetic, even on the internet it's pointless because you don't know that person in real life </3
|
It's not good to be racist. But I'm not going to lie, unfortunately I think I do stereotype sometimes. And I may say something in my own home with just my family around that may be considered a little discriminatory. But I would never say something rude to another person of a different race.
I work with the public so that's sometimes why I'll get frustrated with a specific race. But overall I have many different friends. Some are black, some are Indian and I love them all to death. However, I think what happened to you was just horrible. And maybe I just read it fast but what kind of dancing are you doing? Is it like 'hip-hop' is that why there were 98% African American's there? I'm sure that your dancing is beautiful...heck I wish I could dance, it's really an art and it shouldn't matter what your race or color is. And I'm generally not a racist person I don't mean to offend anyone with the beginning of my post. I guess I just encounter a lot of stupid people in general regardless of their race. |
@ Michelle:
Thats a pretty good story. D: Its good that you stood up for yourself though, Good for you. :3 @ Nissa: I agree. It's pityful. D< @ Ruui: True. It's an unstopable cycle. T^T Anyone who is racist on the internet is the bigest loser in life. xD </3 @ Majinkoz: I agree. Oh, and yes. It was hip-hop. Thanks. (: |
OMFG!so
What the heck is with those guys?!
We don't call THEM 'black' or whatever, (or at least not some of us asians/americans, I'm asian by the way,) but they call us dog-eating asians? If they wanted to be treated like an american, LET them be an american! If we want to dance, LET us dance, for goodness sakes! Hey, they even eat pig. PIG. That's just.. xD And they say we eat dogs? Hey, I don't eat dogs JUST because I'm asian? What the flippers?! Some people do, doesn't mean we do! So totally unfair! |
I always believed there is certain degrees in racism and this degree is just pure ignorance. It really has nothing to do so much with personal experience as it does with just being ignorant. A lot of people of any race is like that. We all in away are racist or just hateful to other people who think differently or look differently. We even hate people for being racist or we hate people for believing they should stick to their own cultural background. It just seems to be a cycle of hate and no matter whether it is based on race, image, personality, creed or so on there will always be hate.
The other degree of racism is more based on knowledge and sometimes knowledge is not always a good thing. People that may know a lot, can use that against ones culture. Much of the hate is not based on what you look like but your own culture or religion. I have seen it before and it is kind of off the wall stuff. Hate in this day and age is just plain wrong but that is my opinion. I am sure my opinion can be challenged but I personally do not like racism at all and find it to be immature. |
I don't like racism one bit, ist just not fair and totally uncalled for. I get it a bit where I am from, my back ground is English and Aboriginal. I take after more so from my father but when you see the rest of my family who are all darker skin color you can see where its in our bloodlines.
I just don't see why we have to dislike people just because of their color of skin or where they are from. I think that people should just learn to be more tolerant and to be more open minded, then we would have a much happier world to call home. |
It's a perpetual cycle. Kids mostly believe what parents think, and if the parents are [overtly or discreetly] racially/sexually/religiously biased, the kids will have the same prejudice more often than not.
But I suppose if all new-born babies were taken away and raised in racially-neutral environments, maybe they wouldn't be any racism. Unless of course, it's genetic, in which case it will never end. |
Goodness. I'm sorry such terrible things have happened to you guys...
I live in a very small town, and until I was in high school (roundabouts), it was solely-white. It doesn't take rocket science to assume what happened when a black family moved here. Not to mention all the "goddamned Mexican!!" cries I hear during the summer months when the blueberry season picks up. :[ It's unfair. I view people as people, and I don't see why others can't or simply choose not to. If I don't like someone, I can assure you it's not because of race, gender or anything like that. It would be their attitude and the way they treat others, if not something worse. |
Well, I can tell you this right now. I'm a white person and while I lived in Georgia I experienced lots of racism pointed at me. Because I wan't black, I wasn't treated the same and didn't get the same kind of help from people who were black as I would have if I were white.
My husband and I went to apply for food stamps and were given a bunch of paperwork and told to come back teh next morning at 7am with all kinds of paperwork and all of our bills and proof of earnings and bank account statements and would probably end up waiting all day (she actually told us this) and wouldn't even get any help if we even qualified for it for another month or so. Then, right behind us this black woman strolled in and said she needed food stamps and the black woman behind the counter handed her like $500 in food stamps right then and there. It was insane I tell ya! Racism at all really sucks. But the truth is, people are always going to be afraid of what is different and they show their fear with anger. Until people learn to live outside of their comfort bubble, there are always going to be things they hate. Personally, I don't really think I'm racist. There are very few things I react badly to. It's an ugly thing that keeps us apart from one another and we'll never have any sort of world peace until we learn how to be more tolerant of each other. |
there is only 1 way to solve this problem; for every one to die. No one is fully african-american or fully chinese [at least only a very small perrcent] but as the generations are created, fewer and fewer "pure breds" [in a sense] are existing. So truly the only way to end racism is for everyone to die. Its a sad thing that people base it on color and culture, etc. I have a lot of different friends. I got a Vietnamese friend, jamacian[and everything else in the world] friend, Dominican friend, African friends, etc. here and there we do lil funny racist things but i would NEVER judge someone based on their color. It doesnt matter to me and it shouldnt matter to anyone. Mexican people are getting beat up a lot here in the US. I mean [personally, not trying to be rude] a lot of them are rude, but its not because they are mexican.... i also have mexican friends.... but there are also rude white people, black people, chinese, but people have to realized just because they are what they are doesnt mean they act the same.
sorry if you dont understand my ranting..... =D |
@ MysticMoon:
I agree. I got really upset with the comments I saw about korean dog-eating culture. I mean: A. Not all people who happen to be korean feast on dog. B. It's a tradition, been around for thousands of years, just because you think it's wrong, doesn't mean you can stop it, thats like saying Jew's are stupid for only eating Kosher. -_-" C. You supose if a korean person see's a dog they automatically want to kill and eat it? Stupid. Dog's are pets. @ DreamEmpress: Good point! Nice stuff. :3 I can't argue to that, all I have to say is that you're right. Racism is pretty ignorant. D< @ Woopididoo: I agree, and I wonder, who started Racism? I mean..people aren't BORN racist, so I wonder how someone could have come up with it? Probably because they were narrow-minded towards other cultures having grown up ONLY with theirs. This is why I'm against schools based on religion. It tares children apart based on religion. D:< @ Anachronism: As I said before, I'm against religious-based schools. Taring and seperating children from eachother based on belief and forcing them to be iscolated with only their culture can cause massive heaps of Racism!! Along with Sex-Based schools. @ Chiairen Hoshino: I don't see why some people can't see other ethicities as people, either. Especially when they don't even knwo the person! Aside from directcly racist people, another thing that pisses the hell out of me: People who claim everything to be racist. I'm sorry I must say there is a kid in my class (and My class is like, 80% asian and 15% white, and 5% black.) And this girl is beyond annoying, thus resulting in people avoiding her and never talking to her and just the other day she called us all racist because she was black. We were all like "Uh..No..It's NOT because you're black..it's because you're a Btcho. D:<" Lot's of kids call me racist just for doing a freaking Peace sign or saying AZN PRIDE or Dancing. :/ I don't get it. I don't get how 1. People can hate someone for their colour/belief 2. People can see everything as racist! WHAT THE HECK. D; @ Crazymuch: That experience sounds pretty lame to be in. D: Sorry about all that. ): I don't think there will ever be a time where EVERYONE will look out to new customs and welcome them into their personal religion bubble. Actually..I don't think there will be a time where even HALF the people in the world do that. I wouldnt know for sure but I think racism is a never-ending flow. Once you let it in, it stays inside you, getting smaller, or, most likely, larger. It's sad. @ Hockeygrl: I agree..I only know a few "pure breed" friends of mine..NOBODY else I know is a full culture. I'M NOT EVEN A "PURE BREED" And still got teased of being partly Korean..Sheesh! -.- I admire people like myself who happen to be mixed between two different cultures who happen to be between a racist war. I'm asian and white so if someone who was white were to call me an Asian Dog-Eating Ch1nk, I'd be all like "Yeah, but I'm half the "same" as you, ya lameass. D:<" |
No one has ever been racist towards me, but my entire family is severely racist. Thankfully, I'm the sane one and refuse to discriminate based upon one's skin color.
While I do believe something should be done about this, they might think you're the one being racist if you say something about it. I don't know why people think that, but sometimes, they do. I suppose the most one can do is politely tell them that 1.) Only stupid people stereotype, and 2.) How would they like it if someone said [insert racist comment about African-Amercians here] to them because they were African-American? Then again, they probably won't listen. I tried to tell someone that harrassment can cause people to commit suicide, and they just kept bothering me until I threatened to kill them. (Don't do the threatening bit. I almost got arrested for it.) |
In my American Studies class today, we were looking at a map of hate groups in America today. We are starting a short unit about slavery and the American civil war, and our teacher wanted us to see that racism isn't really gone.
It's really kind of odd to think about; that people can discriminate against others by something as simple as how some one looks. Finding some one that can truly say they accept everybody is extremely rare, but it seems like such a simple thing to do. . . |
Racism.
I've had my own problems with racism. I too was a victim of racism coming from black people. I know that there are a lot of really nice black people though so I don't have any problem with them. But when I was in elementary school I was one of the only white people in my class and it was horrible. All the black kids hated me and tried to accuse me of being racist because I'm white. When it was them being racist to me. My boyfriend also has problems with racism, he's Japanese, and you would think that other Asians would accept him but he and his brother have had problems with other Asians, such as Chinese or Koreans, being racist to them, some of them, to the point that they won't let them in their house. Like if they have a friend who is that ethnicity, they can't go to their friend's house because their parents are racist against Japanese people. I've seen someone on Gaia make very rude comments about Japanese people too, and they were Chinese (or their friend they were talking to was, and she was agreeing with it). It makes me so mad, that people can't just be nice to each other and forget about things that happened years ago before they were born. Like black people being mad at white people for slavery. It isn't the fault of anyone who's alive today. Yes it was wrong but people today aren't guilty for it.

Your views on Racism?
I find racism kind of pointless its just like calling people names and such. It's like if someone came up to me and called me fat ( even tho I am fat xD ) But like in stead of just towards you its your whole race/culture Dx Which makes it sad. People make fun of other people to make them self look so ALL MIGHTY AND POWERFUL...its just pathetic. Why do people do it? People do it to make them self feel better. Or try to make then self look better. Plus like your story you where the only Asian people and so it was easier to get to you. Also people just do it for fun Dx Have you ever been racist?! :O Actually i have. But in a fun way. My friends and I usually just call each other names. Also when my friend got robed by some Black "gangsters" or w/e you call it. i was never to fond of them Dx THO i do have black friends..just i don't know why Black, and i mean all races like African or whomever with dark/black skin ( gangter people also im not saying all gangter people are black ) think they are all cool and what not. They go on saying their ancestors were slaves and what not but now they think they can be all cool and shit. (uhh sorry Dx) Experiences with racism and why it hurt you. The only time when someone was racist to me is if they start saying "I can speak chinese" and start like saying some weird stuff. Dx But i just try and ignore it like everyone else. Why would Felicia fear them just becuase of a couple of people? T_T One thing is that there were so many of them and just you two. And things can happen Dx What the HELL does Chinks mean? D:< I have no clue...Dx if i knew i would tell you |
Wow, that has to be the most meanest thing I have ever heard. I'm really ashamed of my race right now. I mean since when did African-Americans have the right to insult someone of another race for dancing? Just because we have been through so much doesn't mean we must victimize others for our hard history. If they were joking and not using racial slurs then maybe it would've been let go, but to stoop so low as to insult someone for dancing, just plain old dancing, is ridiculous. Personally, I have been discriminated against and I have let it go. As long as they did not say anything to me or bother me a whole lot, I went on with my life.
|
why are people racist? my take on it is they dislike, or are afraid of whats different from them. or stereotyping, that sort of thing. if you're going to judge someone, judge them of their CHARACTER, not their race.
|
Your views on Racism? Ew. It`s totally ebil. Why should you discriminate against other people because they look a little different? I mean...even different coloured CHICKENS can get along better then us...It`s completly idiotic.
Why do people do it? Sometimes they wanna feel superior to other races, or claim they`re the best. Although most people don`t think this way it`s still happening..:// Have you ever been racist?! :O Yeah..But not to a extreme. I mean, if I saw a Korean walking down the street I would be in my mind: "Oh, he/she is Korean. Maybe they`d like to sushi or some other form of Korean foods." I normally don`t do any hurtful prejudice. Experiences with racism and why it hurt you. Uh...I probably had a lot but i`m not in the mood for typing out extremly long posts..:// (I`ll probably edit this eventually) Why would Felicia fear them just because of a couple of people? T_T Maybe because of her experience she now automaticlly relates certian races to certian experiences. For example, if she was teased throughout her life by a certian group of people of the same race, she might start to make automatic prejudgments. What the HELL does Chinks mean? D:< It`s a very cruel way of saying Oriental people, or mainly Chinese. I`ve been called a Chink..But it wasn`t meant to be hurtful since it was by my Chinese friend anyway..xD |
