Cracker jacks...it's an attempt at realism...D:

  • Alright...a little warning. T_T I haven't done realism in awhile. No practice = crappy result. Also, I don't have any of my art pencils or even a kneaded eraser to help me out. D: Just a mechanical pencil.

I wanted to give my friend/roommate a portrait of her for her birthday today. So in a total of two very broken up hours, I managed to come up with this. This was done in a massive hurry since I wanted it to be a secret. I almost got caught drawing it six times. xD
I used a small picture from Facebook, a mechanical pencil, no guidelines, and some card stock.

    So...here it is: http://torikat.deviantart.com/art/Bd...trait-68096027

She's wearing very heavy eyeliner - I lightened it up, she's slouching out of habit, and she actually has a really high hairline.

Mm, so honestly, I'm juuust looking for tips on using mechanical pencils. In case I have to do another! xD Not really on how to fix this sketch. (It's hopeless!!) I'm still working on - as I have for years - making eyes smaller when I do realism.

And...out of curiosity, would blending help? Whenever I use a tissue to blend, the result looks very dirty. Any tips on making it smooth and clean looking?

Yeah, her eyes look like they're too big to be human XD
You watch alot of anime?
The hair is very well done :3
But I hope she has dark skin or you went over board on the shading. I can't really tell since I've never seen a picture of her.

It's very cute, but it seems a little too cartoony still.

Make sure you get ALL the wrinkles in the face.
The folds of the eye.

You have to show the imperfections as well to make it a realism. :33
