Moving
So I might be moving within the next year. I actually hope I'm going to get to move out of this hell hole, but a lot of people I've talked to around here hate the idea of moving. So it got me wondering.
What do you think are the best things about moving? The worst things? What would make you move out of your house? What would make you stay? Right now, the main thing that I'm looking at, is that if I move, I'm going to get way more job opportunities. Way more opportunities in general. There's better pay up there too. The draw backs are that I'll be leaving my friends here. However, where I might be moving is only two hours away so I can come back and see them once in a while. It's not like I'm moving across the country. xD Another thing I don't like is learning where everything is in a new neighborhood. Oh yeah, and packing up and unpacking sucks. So what do you guys and girls think? |
I've only moved once in my life...and it wasn't that far. It was still in the same state and everything. We just moved to the school district that was kind of next to the one that I was in now...and it was from 7th to 8th grade that I ended up moving. :3nod:
But I have to agree...unpacked did suck. |
Moving is awesome if you don't mind all the work involved.
A) You get to look through all your stuff. B) You get a whole new personal space to reorganize it in. and best of all C) You get to completely re-invent the face you present to people. You can be a completely different person. It's sometimes hard to get settled though. If I were to move I'd want to make sure I had a good plan lined up - or at least something to go on. I'd hate to pick up and move and then find that my initial plans had fallen through. Have a few things lined up before you decide to move. |
True, Nekuyo, I bet I could find all sorts of things I've lost while I was packing/unpacking. Maybe I'd even find the Gladiator movie I've been searching for for the past year. xD
|
The positives would be:
A new area. A new house. A new start. The negatives: Losing contact with friends. Leaving all your memories behind. Going through all the trouble to move all the stuff. |
Aw, but you don't leave your memories behind you. You keep them for life. Or until you get Alzheimers. ;.;

I actually just recently moved into another place and it's not too bad. The current home we had we lived in for over 7 years and the years before hand were hell. It was a pretty big house that held my stepfather and two stepbrothers and my mother, brother and me. ><; I still hate my stepbrothers and dad but since we've moved they live in a separate house and we lived in the old house a good six months before we moved here. As to answer the questions now:
I guess the best things about moving is whatever you didn't like about where you lived before you finally get to go away from it for good. That house had some really bad memories and I was sad to leave my room that became shelter from my steps but now I'm in a smaller house where they're no longer near me. *dances* Oi, the worst things are packing, moving the packed stuff and then unpacking. ><;;; I really really hate to pack and usually I find more stuff to throw away then pack up. Also moving furniture and such is a lot of work and tiring as hell. What made us move is we couldn't afford a large house with only three people living in it so we had to move and it just made more sense to go to a smaller home. *side note* Mom is still married to the step dad but he lives at a different place with his boys What would've made me stay at the old house is that we've been there for so long and I got to know the neighborhood and we had a lot of funny memories. Also since the house was brand new when we got it we were the first ones living there. |
Glad you got away from them since you didn't like them. Hey, it's easier to clean a smaller house anyway. =]
...I forgot all about moving furniture. Dunno where my mind went, but yeah, that would suck. Finding things to throw away isn't so bad though. That way you can make room for new stuff in your new house. |
Indeed! I don't even have to lock my door since it's just my mom and my brother living with me now. And actually...we live in a duplex but it's actually nice and you're right about smaller places being easier to clean. ^ ^ Yeah, the furniture was really rough to move because we have the love seat, couch, coffee table, two glass cabinets, the hutch, many littler table things, the kitchen table, chair,...I'll stop listing now. XD But it took a while to actually move. But the easy part was throwing stuff away.
The good thing is my room is a lot bigger than the one at the old house. Does that even make sense? |
It made sense to me. xD
The only thing I'm dreading moving is my dad's big screen TV. It's big and awkward and heavy. And if someone drops it and breaks it...well, we better run and hide. Did you guys have to move everything yourselves, or did you have someone to help you? A bigger room is definitely a big plus. |
I HATE moving. Since my husband is in the military we are forced to move at least every three years. We also have very little say in where are transferred to. Which makes things very difficult when it comes to trying to get a home in a good area, and of course get our lifes back together. Not only that but 99% of the time we don't know a single person in our new area. This may be good if you are trying to start all over, but I'm already tired of it and just want to have friends and family around me.
Oh and don't get me started on movers. The government hires the most horrendous people! When we moved out from California nearly all of our furniture was broken and we never got reimbursed for it. We tried, but since its through the government we had to file through a bunch of marines that didn't give a damn and they just buried us under paperwork. :x I hate moving! [/rant] |
Oh good. XD
Aw man, I'd hate to move that. ><; We had a pretty big tv to move as well...I wouldn't say it's big screened but it's big plus my brother's and my tv. Hope you guys dun drop the tv. And yeah, we had to move all the stuff ourselves and we used our own vehicles. Thankfully my brother and step dad have trucks. I just have a lil ford escort. XD Indeed, I like having a bigger room cuz I have more crap. XD |

Wow, that sounds pretty bad. The place that I'm looking at is around a lot of my family, so I couldn't imagine just moving some place where you're pretty much all by yourself. I bet it's hard to make and keep friends too. Feel free to rant away, I'd be majorly pissed if someone broke all of my furniture too. MasterChiefrei - We've got two trucks which would help a lot, unless it was raining. Then we'd have to rent one of those Uhaul things that are closed in. I've got so much crap that I'm running out of room in my room. So something bigger is definitely what I'm looking for. xD |
I love moving; I think it's interesting to be in new places.
I'm going to move somewhere closer to my college in a few months, actually. (As soon as I can find an apartment xD). I think it's slightly different though - I know the town my college is in by heart. >___>;;; Butuhmyeah. I love moving away. Packing, cleaning, and unpacking would be a real pain in the arse, but getting to be in a new house.. getting to be in a whole new community... new people to meet.. it's just so awesome. >__<;; *was the person who got to know the new kid in school, instead of making fun of him/her* |
I hope it doesn't rain when you guys are trying to move. ><; Indeed, bigger rooms always help since you're going to have to organize your things once you move all the way in and that takes up a lot of space in itself

Very true, it's nice to get a fresh start and discover new things and new people. I just don't want to forget the old ones. Good luck on finding a nice apartment! MasterChiefrei - Thanks. xD We'll probably check up on the weather and try to pick a day that looks nice. The only reason I thought of it is because it's raining here today. Very true, there'll be boxes everywhere! |
I've never moved in my entire life.
Well, that's not entirely true, we used to live in a different house down the street from where I live now. But I've never moved to a different city or state or anything. Though, there was a time in 6th grade where my father was offered a job in Hawaii and we almost moved there. I'm really glad that we didn't. Not that I dislike Hawaii or anything, it's just that I was extremely quiet most of my life and I had just started talking about the time of 6th grade, because I was familiar with the people and it probably would have messed me up if we had moved. |
Eee. Yah, I'm going to have to move soon. My mum recently left and my Dad can't afford to keep the house and pay for everything else too. Everything else being mainly me. xD
What do you think are the best things about moving? Well, i've never moved before, so it'll be really exciting when I do. :3 The worst things? I'm settled here, I can walk about in the dark and not freak out. I know i'm generally safe&I know where everything is. I can explain most noises and i've figured if anything here wanted to hurt me it would've done so by now. That's why I don't wanna move. >/ Plus, it's gonna be hell to get rid of all my junk. What would make you move out of your house? Probably, if I did the ouija board too much and something really bad actually happened and kept happening even after I stopped. That'd freak me&I'd have to move out. Either that or if we got infested by bugs of some sort. Even after they were gone i'd still hate it. xD What would make you stay? Um, I dunno, if it was generally a nice house. No spooky noises, strange feelings, decent neighbours, so on. |

Wow, you've been in the same neighborhood since you were born? How old are you, if you don't mind my asking? Hawaii would be a cool place to live, I think, but I know what you mean. I was a real shy kid too, so I see how making friends could be pretty hard. Mizz Paperdoll - You just reminded me of that. Once you get a new place and everything is arranged differently, can you imagine how many times you're gonna stub your toe trying to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night because you don't know where everything is? xD Ouch. I walk around in the dark a lot around here so that's one thing that will suck if I move. I imagine a poltergeist would be pretty bad too. Good luck on finding a nice new house. |
xD Yeah. Great. It's not so much me stubbing my toes. I tend to put the lights on when I get up in the night to go to the bathroom (My bathroom is right at the top of the stairs atm and i'm always paranoid someone or something'll be coming up them. Dx). It'll just be my Dad. xDDD I can imagine being woken by -Clunk- "OW FUCK" nearly every night.
|
I'm 17.
It's not like I've never left here, though. In the summer I spend half of my time in another state, a few weeks in Australia and the rest in Montreal. So that's sort of like living in other places, I've just never had to deal with the school aspect of it. |
Mizz Paperdoll -
I leave the lights off so I don't wake my boyfriend up. He gets grumpy. xD Heh, I just got a picture of the grudge thing crawling up the stairs. I hate it when things walk weird like that. o.O clattering shutters - Oh, I see. That's actually pretty cool. |
Well, here it's just me and Dad now. And he doesn't wake for anything. 8]
Apart from when I decide to go mosquito killing. >>; |
Best things?
Getting as far away from here as possible and a fresh start at somewhere. Also, getting rid of all these sales calls. >w<; Worst Things? Moving to a new area means no friends, internet, or cable. I remember when I moved from my hometown to this city, I had no friends or nothing. I made friends quick but then had to switch schools because In the wrong one. Then it all went downhill from there. I didn't know anyone and I really didn't want to. It's been like that ever since. .___. What would make you move? My dad's job. What would make you stay? Memories and a nice home. |

Moving in general just sucks because of all the shitty paper work and moving all your stuff to other place and cleaning the other. D: I just reasently moved AGAIN so I'm pretty damn full of it. What do you think are the best things about moving? -if you're moving away from your parents/to a bigger house/together with your loved one, what wouldn't be more fun than just waiting to move? :) The worst things? -paper work! What would make you move out of your house? -too high rent, too small space, annoying neighbours... there are a lot reasons. What would make you stay? -a good house, nice neighbours, fair rent and stuff like that.. |
