I worked at a Mexican Restaurant that has only three other establishments not including the one I worked at. It was alright at times but I hated that job and the pay was pathetic for all the running you have to do. ><;
So anyways speaking of terrible customers this certain douchebag made me unemployed. If it was my fault I'd understand. *sighs*
So it was a normal Saturday, it was before the rush for lunch and I was awaiting the chaos *because we have a lot of regulars and such that come in* that loomed over. But before it all started a man, his wife, their baby, and little girl walked in wanting a table in nonsmoking. I said smiling, "Alright, please come with me" grabbed the menus, silverware, and kids coloring sheet and headed over to nonsmoking. Since they were going to need a high chair I sat them at a booth and the wife and little girl sat down. The man *who was holding his baby* stood there and stared, then looked at me and said there wasn't enough room. *our booths sit two people on each side and the high chairs go on the side of the table* I looked at the booth, his wife *who was confused as well*, then back at him. I said, "Alright sir.." so I sat them at a table that usually seat four people and the high chair would go on one of the sides. Again he said there wasn't enough room. He then pointed at a table for bigger parties *seating 5-6* and said he wanted to know if he could sit there. I explained to him that it was for bigger parties and since it was Saturday we were sure to need it. He got upset saying he was a regular and that I was disrespecting him and went to the front of the restaurant. His wife apologized and followed thinking he was joking...he wasn't. He complained to my manager and afterwards I was fired. He had left and while I was working the rest of that day one of my coworkers reassured me I'd be alright and that I should've told him, "This is Chief's country bitch!" since he was a Raiders fan. ><; But the Monday after I was fired so that was the worst customer I ever had. I'd probably tell him that line if I ever saw his ass again.
Anyways there be me rant, the best customers I had were the drunk ones that fell of their chairs and knew how to have fun. <3

I don't work in retail. I'm only 13.

My mom works at a casino full time (in the banks and stuff), then part time at another (having to deal with people). She said some of the elderly people there are absolutely insane, but I can't recall any stories.

I hate it when guys think that they can have anyone they want, just because he's rich, but when he's OLD, that's just creepy!

I'm only 13, and I don't really have a job, so I have no stories to tell.

This is a good point that I didn't think of before. In my company giving that sort of information out is grounds for dismissal. You'd be surprised how many people request to be transferred to a manager when I won't give out a co-worker's schedual.

endearment 10-29-2007 02:49 AM

I don't have a job yet which I'm thankful for right now. I'd like to experience what's left of my adolescence right now and leave some of the drama for later ;P. But really I feel that it's really terrible how rude people can be especially to people who work in fast food restaurants. They actually prepare our food for us and to believe some people actually throw food at them. I heard in the news that people actually throw their drinks at the drive thru workers when they get them. IT'S HORRIBLE. I would be really pissed off if someone threw their drinks at me after I give it to them. I'm not so patient with really rude people when I'm trying to do my best. But I am generally nice and would 'probably' do good in a fast food/restaurant. I'm sorry that happened to you :[. At least you're getting paid right?

*sigh* I tried to lighten to mood

Hehe, your stories made me laugh.

@ Karine:
Oh gross! I'd imagine whoever did that was either a little kid or had mental problems. I dread having to clean stuff up if anyone ever throws up in my store. But that's even worse.

@ Raspberry Tea:
Yeah, it bothers me to think about too. The weird thing was that she did it right in front of me, as if it were completely normal. She couldn't have been right in the head.

@ Stephie:
 I've never heard Brazil nuts called that before either. I would've been dumbfounded too...and maybe even a little offended.

We have shoplifters too, but they're mostly little kids that are easy to catch. Those are really random things to steal though. Eggs??? Did they look like they were starving or something? That's so weird.

XD That's funny about the cart full of chips! If I was incapable of restraint I would've walked down the aisle with that many chips because I wanted them all. Do you get a lot of people that dump their carts and you have to put everything away? I always thought that would be an annoying thing to have to deal with.

@ MasterChiefrei:
That really sucks! Was he immensely fat or something? Or did he just want a huge table for no reason? Did he know that he got you fired? I bet his wife felt awful. I have to wonder...if you see a customer who was really rude outside of work, do you still have an obligation to be polite? I think you've lost those obligations by now though. Go crazy.

@ endearment:
That's good. You should go without a job for as long as you're able to. I just need one so I can pay for my car, gas, insurance, etc. It's nice to have spending money too. I agree about fast food being even more difficult though. I don't think I could handle that.

juniper_silver 10-30-2007 05:12 PM

Sorry about the double posting, but I want my thread to go back to the first page and editing a post doesn't do that.

So, to at least be on topic, my customers were extremely cranky yesterday because we had a halloween event in the mall and a bunch of little kids were running around in costumes. So regular shoppers weren't getting as much attention/space as usual.

I had someone come in, already clearly pissed, and demand to know where our brooches/pins were. For some reason we never have any of those, so I had to apologize and say that we didn't carry them. She started yelling at me! It was really crazy, she was like "Well that's just great, I'm glad you could help me out so much!" Geez, like it was my fault. She must have been having a really bad day.

Divine_lil_brat 10-30-2007 05:35 PM

I have so many, I can't even keep count. I work at a time share resort on the beach. So everyone who comes in 99% of the time are owners and they all want Ocean views. If they don't get an OV room they always start with "I've been an owner for ....blah blah" and then they won't take their room or want to take to my manager. Its so old and holds up the line during check in. I always here first thing from a guest I'm checking in and I tell them the room number. "Is that with a view..." "well yes." "An ocean view?"

I swear I'm so sick of hearing that. Best part is most of our owners live local and go to the beach daily and yet they still want ov. Most of the units have an ov but there are a few with no view. Out of 144 rms about 127 have an ov.

Sometimes I just want to say "don't ask me or I won't check you in." I swear grown people throwing fits to get their ways just doesn't fly with me. If I can't throw a fit, they can't either. Best part the ones who don't get the ov and you checked them in, are out to get into trouble the rest of their stay. I've gotten so many complaints about me being rude and unhelpful its not even funny, but once I explain whats going on management over looks the complaints. Your only allowed 3 writes and I have 2. SO now my oh wise mangers get the fact its not me but the ov revenge.

Chaoticness 10-30-2007 06:03 PM

I work at some local tea rooms.

The worst customer we have had was anold guy probably in his 50's?? I was stacking a tray with tea cups and he stormed over to the counter area where I was and said
"how the hell am I meant to get milk if we aren't allowed to take jugs to the table"
I responded with "well sir you could pour some into one of the cups and take that to your table"
at which point he started to swear at me inbetween muttering how ridiculous it was....It's not my fault you can't take the jugs to the table.

The nicest customer...well for me the nicest customers are a couple that visit the tea rooms each weekend. when they first visited they thought i was someone from a Television soap but they soon realised I wasn't. They always talk to me now and some of the new staff there have mistaken them for my grandparents. lol so now they always call me thier granddaughter even though i only met them about 3 months ago.

Lore 10-30-2007 06:10 PM

I had this one awful lady I had to deal with while I was working at Gamestop. It was the holiday season of last year and we were really busy with our holiday promotional sales, right?

Well, it was part of my job to make sure all of the games were up neatly on the wall and readily findable for anyone that wanted them. ( < < Doing that is an awful job for someone that has OCD. *twitch* ) Anyway, apparently some lady saw me setting up a whole rack of games that some idiot boys had knocked over and then just ran out. She called me over to help her with some things, so, I went over to see what it was.

She pointed at one of the games in the new section and she asked me how much that game was. Things aren't stickered on the shelf, so I had to take it back to the counter to do a price check. I told her the full amount and she was like ' No, no. It should be cheaper, right? That came from the used section those boys knocked over. Someone else was looking at it and put it up there. '

|: She argued *at* ( I say at because I didn't argue back, or with ) me that the game she wanted was on sale and was undeniably used.. You know, even though we had just gotten it in stock. Thankfully my manager came out and straightened her out. xD I was new then so I couldn't exactly do it myself~

juniper_silver 10-30-2007 06:33 PM

@ Divine_lil_brat:
Oh that sucks that you can't give everyone an OV room. I can see why they would want one, but I don't know why they're taking out their frustration on you. It clearly isn't your fault.

I think people are used to getting their way in establishments by throwing a fit because a lot of places will bribe them to shut up and continue supporting the business. I wish people wouldn't bribe customers. It makes things hell for the workers.

@Chaoticness:
Lol, he was probably just pissed because the answer to his question was so obvious and he looked like an idiot.

I always love having customers that come in so often that we can remember each other. That's really funny and cute that they call you their granddaughter.

@Lore:
Ugh, lame customers trying to trick people into giving them lower prices. It seems like that happens a lot. Good thing the manager was there before she got too out of control.

mystic kiwi 10-30-2007 06:34 PM

I work at PetSmart and get a lot of bad customers, especially when people return dead animals and don’t listen to the advice we give them to keep the pet alive. Luckily we can refuse sales to those kind of people. My worst customer is probably this woman that comes in every now and then to get fish. Every time she expects us to drop everything, even if we’re with another customer and pay attention to her right that second. Back in pet care a lot of times there’s only one associate back there too so it’s hard some days to quickly get to every customer. When a customer walks back there I tell them I’ll be right with them if I am with another customer and normally they’re okay with it.

This woman will tap her foot and stand there glaring at me until I get to her then she complains that it took forever, even if she was waiting not even 5 minutes. She complained to me about an associate that was helping her because her fish died and the associate said her water quality probably wasn’t right, which was probably the case anyway.

Once when she brought a fish back she said she refused to ever shop at our store again because according to her, we sold sick fish when that’s not the case. I told her that she shouldn’t be putting so many fish in such a small tank and that’s why they’re dying, but she’s one of those people who think nothing is their fault.

My best customer is probably this woman that bought two guinea pigs from us. She would only talk to me and wouldn’t even talk to the pet care manager because she liked me better than him. She always is agreeable and actually listens to the advice that we offer her. There’s this other lady that has 4 bearded dragons that’s like that too that I like quite a bit as well.

juniper_silver 10-30-2007 06:51 PM

@ mystic kiwi:
 People return dead animals?! That is disgusting, I'm never working at Petsmart.

That customer that comes in for fish sounds terrible. I know how it is to have customers waiting. I have to do piercings even if I'm in the store alone and if someone comes up to the register they have to wait for me to finish. Usually they're really understanding though. I wonder what that ladies problem is. Did she stop coming to Petsmart when she said she would? I hope so. Poor fish.

That's good that you get some decent pet owners there too. I remember how whenever I went to Petsmart when I was little, they always had dogs from the humane society to be adopted rather than breeding dogs and cats. I thought that was really cool and different than other pet stores. Do they still do that?

Eitriarch 10-30-2007 08:38 PM

I worked at Goodwill so I had TONS of horrible customers.

One teenage girl came up to me one day and looked at these jeans and she was all like "$3.50? For a pair of USED jeans? You need to be slapped!"

Excuse me? For one, I don't price things. And two, $3.50 isn't expensive at all. Go right ahead and spend $40 for a pair at JCPenny's, I don't care.

--

I also get this customer that is so purposefully rude. One day she was holding $3 in her hand and bought two items - both for $2. I tell her the total and she gets mad at me because she doesn't have enough money. So she gets out her credit card and starts sighing angrily like it was my fault she didn't bring enough in the first place.

--

One time I had this customer (probably around 50) that came in crying and saying she dropped $80. The crying was so horribly forced I didn't even believe she was really upset. Then she starts running around the store frantically while "crying" and whimpering and whining. After a couple times around the store some older man tried to comfort her and she began screaming at him. She began screaming at other people and slamming into things and falling onto the floor. My assistant manager actually had to tell her to get out of the store or she would call the police.

About a week later I found out that the '$80' she lost was really a whole $18.

I could probably write a novel about every stupid/rude/horrible customer I've had. And I only worked there for about 6 months.

killuachanx3 10-30-2007 08:54 PM

I dont get mean costumers. o__o;; The worst ones are those who buys a lot but its not their fault cause they only get to come like once a month or something.

I love my job. xDD

Kayara 10-30-2007 08:54 PM

Seriously? They return dead animals?!?! Eeewww....that's so gross... o___0

Number One: I used to work for Cotton Ginny and it was bad sometimes, I mean, sure there were nice people, women with kids and stuff but then there were the old ladies who looked like they a pole shoved somewhere unpleasant. One lady I know of, she came into the store and right away she started nastily criticising the rows of clothing that I had JUST finished restocking, I'd made sure everything was in order and everything was neat and tidy but she came along and BAM! Pointed out the tiniest details that were either wrong or considered distateful or something!

To top it all off though? She tried on two of everything in the store and left with almost a thousand dollars worth of stuff, the credit went to me and I was thrilled but I had a headache from her whiny voice for the next two days.....That was the worst customer I've ever had, the second worst customer was just gross.

Number Two: There was this really thin lady who'd come into the store and she was trying on clothes right? So I go to help her out when she rings the bell for service and instead of just tossing the clothes she didn't need over the top of the change-room door? She comes out, STARK NAKED with the clothes in her arms and proceeds to put them on the Un-Wanted rack. Now, this lady was SUPER skinny, like someone that had turned into a mummy but her skin wasn't dried out and wrinkled, she looked like a skeleton! I was so mortified that I'd had to help out this crazy woman that I almost started crying. In the end my boss turned up and asked the woman to get some clothing on or leave. The woman left in a huff and bought NOTHING!!

But you DID help her out a great deal! You have no brooches. If you didn't tell her that she'd have spent an hour or so looking for a nonexistant item. But since you told her otherwise she can go on and find a store that has them. You think that would be simple logic, but...

Divine_lil_brat: Isn't that something they should ask for when they first begin planning their vacation? If they book weeks in advance they're almost guaranteed an ocean view! I'm sorry, but anyone who checks in at the last minute gets what they get and have no right to complain.

Lore: It sounds to me that at first she was trying that whole "wink wink" thing. You know "Oh it came from the used section, riiiight? *wink* It's really half of that." And when you, of course, didn't play along she got ticked. Either that or she's flipping crazy.

Mystic Kiwi: Can you just not sell that woman any more fish ever? Those poor fish.

Eitriarch: She said you needed to be slapped? ...No I think SHE needed to be kicked. Preferably out the door. And that older lady sounds like there just wasn't something right with her.

Kayara: At least you got commission off that lady (I'm guessing?) but seriously. Criticize everything then leave with $1k of stuff? Maybe she thought if she whined enough it'd be cheaper? As for the exhibitionist I have NO words.

juniper_silver 10-31-2007 04:19 AM

@ Eitriarch:
Lol, anyone who complains about the prices at Goodwill needs to be slapped themselves. I love that store! Wow, that lady who said she lost money was really off her rocker. How'd you find out that it was $18?

I feel like I could write a novel too. That's why I started this thread. Talking/writing about this stuff makes me feel better since I rarely get a chance to and it gets all bottled up. I was actually considering getting a job at Goodwill though...but not at the register. I want to sort through the incoming stuff and price/tag it. Would you recommend against that?

@ killuachanx3:
You are either awesomely lucky or really optimistic. Where do you work? I need a job there.

@Kayara:
Customer number one sounds like she's used to getting her way because she's loaded. Did you get paid extra for selling her the stuff, or did you just congratulations type credit?

Oh wow, good thing the second lady left. I hope she doesn't come back. That's just disgusting, but I know what you mean about feeling like you had to help her anyway.

@ Raspberry Tea:
This isn't really relevant to what you just posted, but I just realized that you always give me legal advice. It's really funny and helpful. I'm going to start calling you my lawyer :D

Raspberry Tea 10-31-2007 04:52 AM

Not a lawyer in real life, but I suppose I can play one on Menewsha. If you DO write a novel about your experiences in retail, let us know won't you? I've thought about doing it myself, but I'm trying to figure out ways to fictionalize people enough that no one would know certain characters were based on them.

juniper_silver 11-01-2007 02:38 AM

@ Raspberry Tea:
Oh I'd be so bad at fictionalizing my stories. It wouldn't matter though if the book sold well enough, I wouldn't need my job anymore. I seriously doubt that I could make my experiences interesting enough though. Are you a good writer? There's this book called the nanny diaries that's really funny and it's about a job. Have you read it? If we could write in that style our books would be bestsellers for sure.

nike13 11-01-2007 03:34 AM

Its not one customer but more of a general mentality the customers at some of the stores I worked. I've been called racist a few times because I refused to allow someone to use an expired coupon. I had refused people of my own race for the same thing but just because I'm white and say no it instantly made me racist.

There are also times when it is assumed I'm an idiot because I'm working in retail. So I've been treated like a moron who can't do simply math when they can't calculate 40% off.

I think the kicker is when someone walks into the store and says something along the lines of I'll give you X dollars for this. Now, I don't work in a stall in the flea market, it was a retail furniture store.

Basically, retail has caused me to lose any respect I had for the human race. Well, 90% of humanity anyway.

psyrien 11-01-2007 05:54 AM

I work at a fast food place, so I've never really had an awesome customer. I've had friendly customers, but none that really stand out.

But I've had some crazy customers.

There's this one lady who seems to live in the restaurant, not because she's homeless, but because she just stays there. o_0 Like she'll order coffee in the morning and then sit on the bench for the ENTIRE day. Our manager comes over and asks her to leave because she's loitering and has finished her coffee loooong ago. The lady then glares at him and says she'll scream rape if he touches her. xD It was rather amusing because our manager is such a nice guy. ^^;

Melissa 11-01-2007 06:35 AM

I work at GameStop and we have a lot of policies on returning items. If you buy used and it doesn't work bring it back with your receipt before the week is over and we can return it.

If you buy new open it and don't like it you can't return it for something else. You can't return it at all. You can trade it in for whatever price the computer says. Like Gears of War can be traded in for 15 dollars. People get mad and are always like, "But I bought it for 54 dollars!" yeah well that's not my fault. You should have bought used instead.

Some of my worst costumers are non-english speakers. 50 percent of the population in Florida doesn't speak English and it's really hard to explain to them why I can't exchange their items and stuff. XD
