I am Fat
I am fat, and I have been for a long time.
Now I know I shouldn't be mean to my self, and I should have self confadeance, and all that stuff... and I do but it dosen't change the fact that I am overweight. I'm 23years old, about 5'4" and I weigh 268lbs (just went to the doctor yesterday). I had been loosing weight in the spring, and gotten under 250... but since I got a desk job in an office I've put on weight and I hate it. Some of my clothes are noticably tigher and it's uncomfortable. I know I need to make some changes in my diet and excersise... both of which are really bad now. The problem is that since I got the new job, I'm not walking to work, I have to carpool, i'm not walking around the store in a retail job, i'm at a desk on a computer all day. By the time I get home at night I am so tired that i can't cook a good meal, and I eat what ever my fieance decided to make for dinner. Weekends are just as bad because we are tired still from the work week, and need to clean up around the house, we rarley get out unless we are being dragged to some family function. I'm going to start by watching what I eat more... Buying healthier foods, eating smaller portions, that kind of stuff. My fieance is a member of a gym already, but it's near where his parents' house is, which is close to his work so he just kept the membership. He's planning to swich to a closer gym so we can go together. Dose any one have any advice? I'm not a fan of diet pills... I've never taken them before, but I'm not sure if I would trust them. Any one know a good website with ideas for loosing weight or healthy recepies? Please do not harrass me because I am overweight. |
Who would harass you?
I too, am a tad bit overwieght... for my age anyway. >__>;; I haven't really got into that type of thing yet because... well, my age I guess... I wish I could help you... but I know nothing... >.< Good Luck though. |
Try and become a vegitarian, or merely eat more vegitarian/soy foods. I'm overweight, and I made a bet with my friend, to see who could last as a veggie longer. Turns out I lost a ton of weight from becoming a vegitarian. The food is A LOT healthier, and it usually tastes better as well. It's not that hard to make a few simple microwavable meals that consist of soy products. It's surprisingly good xD I hope I could help. |
if you want to try and do the vegetarian diet, make sure you do some research on it. like the one above said, soy is great. get a couple meal ideas and stay away from carbs! its a mistake that people can make when they do this diet and it makes them gain more weight!
|
I know, but it's also not safe to eliminate carbs all together.
I want to start eating more fish, I like fish and it is good for you (as long as it's not fried) and more real chicken as well... instead of frozen patties and stuff... My fieance has a tendency to throw on hotdogs, those frozen breaded chicken patties, or burgers for dinner most nights cuz they are easier to make. I'm not sure I could do the whole soy thing... I've had friends who were vegetarians... and the soy "chixen" stuff tasted really bad... |
I found that changing when I eat helped me loose the weight I needed to.
I used to skip breakfast, snack all day and have a massive dinner. It's logical really that having a huge meal late at night and then going to sleep = Not burning anything off. But at the time I didn't really realise it. Waking up earlier, eating a huge breakfast, a decent sized lunch and having a sandwich or something small for dinner and nothing to eat after 6pm did wonders. The weight just dropped off me. It took a while to get used to, especially forcing myself to eat lots first thing in the morning, and ocassionally it does get messed up. Like when there's a party or something in the evening and I have to break the eating after 6pm rule... but I find sticking to it as often as possible makes me stay the weight I'm comfortable with. I tried things like slimfast (put on 1 stone!) and other diets, but none of them worked for me. |
I know just how you feel. I'm 5'6" and I weight 215lbs. The most I've weighed is 240, but that was before my endocrinologist put me on a diet pill. The pill was necessary, because I was eating relatively good foods (lean meats like chicken and fish, and I was FORCING myself to eat more vegetables), I was taking long walks every day, but the weight just wouldn't come off.
I know you say that you don't want to try diet pills, but if regular methods of weight loss don't work, then it just might be a step you need to take. Try eating lean meats that aren't fried, incorporate vegetables into your meals (even if you hate them...start out with small portions and then make them gradually bigger...and if you don't like the taste of vegetables, find a seasoning that will make them taste better to you) and another thing that could possibly help is drinking two or three glasses of water before every meal. This will make you less hungry, so you won't feel the need to eat as much as you normally might. I hope those are some good suggestions. ^_^ |

and yes, the soy chicken is gross :3 |
One thing that helps that most people don't think of is what they drink. If you drink a lot of soda pop everyday or even a couple beers, it is really bad for you, the sugars and cards and calories you take in. And just cause it says diet, doesn't mean it is. There are many diet drinks out there now tho that contain no or very little carbs and no calories. My problem with them is the taste, only a couple of the big names get it close to the original.

So not cool... I had a really well thought out, long post responding to the last few posts and i got an error so it didn't post and i lost it all... stupid computer...
anyway... let's try this again @Ebil I do eat breakfast.. but it tends to be soemthing from a drive through because I don't like waking up in the morning, my ride usualy gets me about 7... I did get up eirlier today, about 5:30 (stupid ear infection drops) so I was able to have a bowl of cereal for breakfast (total with cranberries) But not eating after 6... that's not possable for me. I get home from work at 7pm or later most nights... that is a good idea though... Maybe no eating after 8pm would be ok.. not as good as 6, but it's still a limit. And I can't do slim fast, allergic to artificial sweeteners... @StarBlazerM31 (really cool name btw) I'm not agaisnt diet pills, i'm just cautious when taking any medecine... I have alot of allergies and If i end up going in that direction I will work with a doctor to find the best kind for me. Though I take those one a day pills every morning... and I know they make a weight smart kind, so I may try swiching to them ans seeing if they help. I love vegetables... it's just getting around to cooking them. I boutght an eggplant a little while ago, and I didn't have time to cook it and it went bad... so that was a waste of money. And alot of frozen/canned vegies have salt and sauses added that makes them less healthy... but i know I should be buying more. It's just controlling my boyfriend's spending on junk food maybe? lol and mine as well @king99 that's ok, it was mroe reacting to those atkins/south beach diets that totally eliminate carbs... people got sick because while eliminating bad things from their diets they took out the good stuff too. Also, i will agree that vegie burgers are really good ^_^ I'll look into picking some up so when jared makes burgers i can have them (in a healthier form) as well Having a healthy choice frozen meal for lunch. It's fish with brocolie and rice, and a bottle of water. I also have a granola bar for a snak for the afternoon... hopefully that will keep me away form the left over candy some one brought in... @Weirdbuddha After I moved out of my parents house I stopped drinking soda as much, I don't even buy any for my self. I can't drink the diet sodas because i'm allergic to the artificial sweetners... so that's not an option. I don't drink achohol alot either, though i do like the taste and keep some in the house, I know it's not good for me (in more than one way) so i only drink on special occasions. Actually the bottle of rum I have was a gift from when some one went to bermuda in september. heh |
I agree, cutting out carbs is bad. I went on that Adkins diet a while back...and even though it lowered my weight to an amazing 138 lbs (from 175 originally)...I felt like dying. I had no energy and I was in PAIN for some reason.
So yeah. No carbs=bad. Carbs are your energy, so you need them. Don't eat too many carbs though. One good thing I've discovered actually helps for when you want a sandwitch or a burger is eating it open-faced. Just take that top bun off and enjoy. And use only enough ketchup to make the burger taste good. Don't pile it on there. That actually helps, believe it or not. One time I lost about 13 lbs that way. |
@StarBlazerM31 I'm not a big fan of ketchup anyway... it's too salty for me... it also is loaded with sugar and salt... I like raw onion and a little mustard on my burgers.. soem times cheese though not much...
I know they say dairy is good for you... eating youghert and drinking skim milk and having a lowfat cheese for a snack... also with drinks, you have to be really carefull with juices as well. I was getting a bottle of apple juice this morning when we stopped for coffee (i don't like coffee) and I was looking at the juice one was like 10% juice with corn syrup and artificial flavoring and then there was one with 100% juice, but no added sugar... but it was still kinda high in sugar, and it cost more since it was 100% juice (so not fair) |
It sounds to me like you just might have a handle on it. If your fiance is working with you it will make it easier. Just make sure you don't allow junk food into your home and try to get back into the exercise. I keep hearing that if you eat small meals throughout the day it is better because then you won't over eat. Start buying fresh fruits and vegetables and keep them around, ready to eat, so whenever you are hungry that's what is convenient and you don't go for the junk. Hope you succeed.

@Yeah i know... he said he'd support me, but he dosen't want to change his diet. He's a professionall athlete and he can't loose any more weight right now. That's one of the reasons he goes to the gym is because he's trying to bulk up his muscles... *sighs* he's also very pickey and he loves everything smothered in ketchup...
i've also come to realise i make alot of excuses... |
Where do you work at?
|
I'm a securatary in an office near boston massachussets. I wish it was closer to down town, then i could go out for a walk at lunch... but here is an industrial park... so it's jsut other offices and wearhouses, and a car dealership... no place that's really safe or that you would want to walk aorund.
|
Ohh
|
I know, it sucks. I used to work at the mall. I had to walk every day to the bus stop and back again after work. I walked around my store a lot too. Sitting at a desk all day with nothing to do dosen't help much... but it least it keeps me away from the food court in the mall

You may be over weight, and that's okay if it's a little bit...but you do need to watch yourself, because if you don't it could become detrimental to your health...and it's great that you're going to start eating healthier...one thing I noticed, because my boyfriend is a little over weight as well....is that if you drink pop cut it out of your diet completely.
And if you eat fast food...cut that out too...it does honestly. My boyfriend hasn’t started to exercise but he cut out pop and fast food from his diet and he has lost weight...to the point there I and some other people notice it...he is still a little heavy but if you do that that is a step in the right direction. He does still drink diet pop though...but at least that has zero sugar and calories...but it's still not good for you. And if you don't eat fast food or dink pop, that's good too!! You're already doing something good for yourself. And you said that you work at a desk job...well you must get a break or something. What you could do is eat your lunch. I say pack a lunch with things like a yogurt, sandwich with wheat or rye bread, don't do white bread because that's VERY bad for you, it has the same chemical compound of sugar...and maybe a water. Liquid is very filling and even though you may be hungry later...it's still good. And then maybe some low fat popcorn...I looooove popcorn...anyways when you're done with your lunch...it'll take maybe 20-30 minutes you could go for a walk for a little bit...it doesn't have to be long, but as long as you get up and are a little bit active I'm sure you'll see some changes with your body in the next few weeks/months. I wish you the best! And I sincerely hope that this helped, even if it was just a little bit...I know you're not the only person with this problem. :( |
Whatever you do to get yourself into shape, just make sure you do it the healthy way and safely. ^^ It's good that you want to lose weight, but remember that it's always good to take it slowly. Buying healthy foods like you said is an awesome start, but you could also have a slow metabolism, so mayby before or after work, take a 1-2 mile walk around the neighborhood. My father did that and he lost a healthy amount of weight, I was amazed. xD A thing not to do though, is skip meals, not eat, or throw up your meals. D: I've known girls at my school that do that, and I'm always afraid for their health. Of course I figured you're too smart to do anything like that. :3 It's always good to join a club, or just get with a group of people that are also trying to lose weight...Usually having someone to talk and relate to can be motivating in the process. |
I have an idea. If it was mentioned already, I apologize.
Find some time on your day off. Make it if you need to, even if it means not doing to a family or other social function. Think up a healthy meal ahead of time that you can cook a huge amount of and then eat throughout the week. Trust me, I understand you when you say you're tired. I find that having meals already prepared in the freezer or fridge help out a LOT. Whatever you do, try to stop from just "eating whatever". Or instead, buy something that's not TOO bad in regards to pre-packaged frozen foods. Lean Pockets aren't always ideal, but not all of them taste crummy. I'm overweight as well, though I've maintained it for well over a year. I do need to exercise and diet again though, and I know this. My husband is comfortable with me, but I am not. I'm very tall, but also quite rotund. I've found that having meals ahead of time REALLY helps. If you do have to eat whatever, make sure that whatever is as healthy as you can get it. Fast food will kill anyone. I don't know how some people can eat it daily and not gain a pound! O_O Oh, and if your work place is leaving unhealthy food around, pack your own snacks. Bring healthy foods with you to store in your desk, like pretzels or some fruit that won't spoil if left out. |
As a fellow overweighter, I was about 100 lbs less than you but I'm still fat and hell does it show. I am the same height as you. And I get tortured.
Basketball season for me just started. I'm working my ass off and I already feel thinner. Here are some things you can do- I am also working on losing all this baggage and my mom is a nurse so here: DRINK A LOT OF WATER! I helps flush fat! Don't trust diet pills, they're a rip off and require TONS more exercise and eating less than if you try to lose weight manually. You should eat less, but don't -starve- yourself. Cut down on portions. Like a cup of spaghetti. And always drink lots of water. Eat fruits! Hell, even apples with a little bit of peanut butter on them is a lot better than a 6 pack of Austin brand crackers. :] (I learn too much) CARBS AND CALORIES! Are the main things of weight loss. I believe that 32g carbs per meal is the..limit or something. So look at the amount of carbs! Calories aren't so bad. Also watch the sodium. |
If you drink a lot of water, you will be healthier and less hungry.
A good dietary soup with celery, cabbage, and a can of tomatoes would be great for you. You wouldn't really have to worry about how much you ate of it. If you and garlic and olive oil to veggies in a pan, you can make a tasty and healthy dish. On'y put small portions in fornt of yourself when you eat, so that you will not be tempted to overeat. Write down what you eat so you will feel accountable for it. Never starve yourself as it will only make your body conserve more fat! As for excercise, there are things you can do that won't take much time. When doing everyday activities such as holding in your stomach and rear muscules, you can noticeablely tone them. It does wonders to flatten them out a bit. Also, foir your arms, try doing pushups against a counter every day. Put your feet not too close and not too far from the counter. Work up to being able to do larger ammounts. Jogging to music in the house would be great and take away the embaressment of public exercise. Do a few minutes until you are too tired. Take a five minute break and do as much as you can and do this whenever you can throughout the day. |
Well why are you worried if someone is going to pick on you when you have someone to hold already? Sure it's good to lose weight and be healthy, if you want a reason to lose the weight then use that one. Sure some people can be rude but don't let it bother you.
I may not be perfect but I try. I'm chunky, and I try my hardest to at least stay chunky. I do know how it feels though. I mean when you look around everywhere, all the fat people are poked fun of while all the skinny people are glorified. It's pathetic and sad, but that's our world we live in...xP good luck though. ^^ I'm sure you'll reach your goals. |
Eh, I'm over weight too. I was at the doctors on Monday and I was at 238.4lbs. Luckily I wear my weight well and don't look that big (180-ish).
I've lost about 13lbs so far this school year--and just because of school. I'm taking PE this year, and we're running every day Dx I've also been trying something else this year: eating with smaller plates. If you eat with smaller plates, your plate may be full but you're still getting better portions. Also, I read an article about a month ago as to why the French are so slender. Apparently, they take at least an hour to eat dinner, and they always take a sip of water/wine after every bite. Sometimes when we're hungry, its really just our body craving for something to hydrate us again, so I can see how this would really work. You don't have to make a ton of adjustments in your life to lose some pounds. I still eat the same stuff, I just portion it better. I still exercise, just on different terrains now. I, however, can't manage to do the 'chew, swallow, sip' thing. I'm working on it though xD If you really really want to lose weight though on a diet pill and you're determined to stick to a strict diet, I'd recommend Alli. If you have more than like, 42g of sugar or something a day, you get the runs. Its like your body automatically punishes you for breaking your diet. However, these trips to the bathroom are uncontrollable most of the time, and the excretion comes out almost like water. But your body does get cleared out and your digestive tract starts repairing itself that way. Meats alone, like steaks, sometimes will take up to 2 weeks to fully digest. Eating some kind of yogurt or veggies that'll clear out your system before you diet would probably be a good idea too. I hear Activia works pretty well for that. You get the runs, but they're a bit more controllable. And its not watery. The Activia Challenge takes about two weeks to complete I believe, so I'd set aside two weeks as a prep period and eat that stuff. And remember, you shouldn't want to lose weight for other people--you should do it for you and nobody else. Its your lifestyle, you shouldn't be pressured into changing it to better fit society or whatever. Best of luck! |
